Ok, now I am really annoyed! It is a VISA issue 100% but they have absolutely no dedicated team or contact for Apple Pay and are refusing to assist me at all. They have bounced me back to HSBC who are not at fault, and they proceed to bounce me to Apple, who are not at fault. The problem with having unaccountable massive organisations dealing with this process is that when something goes wrong no-one can help you!! GRR

Hi all, added my HSBC advance debit card (red one, contactless) today and it went fine, got the code via email (in icloud junk lol) - question: im yet to use the service, so to avoid embarrassment, can I use apple pay at *every* contactless terminal or just the supported partners? Sorry it's not obvious to me. Thanks.

Any contactless terminal - if you're worried whether it'll work and are near an Apple Store they can do a test transaction.

I used Apple Pay twice today, in Pets at Home to buy a dog lead and in Morrison's to buy some groceries. Both times it worked perfectly and is genuinely a convenient way to pay. I really look forward to the day when I can confidently leave my wallet at home most days.

I also emailed Tesco customer service dept to let them know that they are losing some of my business to Morrison's due to the absence of contactless (and therefore) Apple Pay payments at their stores and they assured me they are testing Apple Pay and contactless payments and will consider both in due course. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to go massively out of my way to pay with Apple Pay but all things being equal I'd rather use Apple Pay than not and that will mean Tesco lose some of my business.

I agree. It's really annoying. My situation is slightly different where my HSBC debit card added just fine first time round on my iPhone but refuses to be added to my watch. Every time I try it says card not added and to contact card issuer. I have spoken to both HSBC and Apple several times and neither have been helpful. I don't want to use my Amex card on my watch for small transactions all the time.

HSBC keeps telling me different things. They said first to wait 24 hours and try again and when that didn't work they said to wait 48 hours and try. When that didn't work they said wait 4 days. That was last Tuesday. As I am abroad right now I'm going to wait until I get back to the UK before trying again but I'm not holding much hope. I am in the process of getting an HSBC credit card and hopefully that won't have any issues. I am also considering getting my debit card replaced for another to see if that resolves the issue. Leaving HSBC is not really a very practical option for me right now.

You don't have to leave just open another bank for day to day spending - bounce a spending budget from hsbc to the spending one

On my last visit to Tesco (here in Derby) there was an icon on the EPOS for Payqwik. I'm led to believe it's on an invitation/trial only basis and only in select stores (London and Edinburgh).

I'm guessing it's along the lines of the upcoming Zapp programme Sainsbury's are looking to roll out on their checkouts.

It's a shame they haven't led the way in terms of contactless payments but surely they'd be better off updating the terminals so contactless payments could be used (irrespective of Apple Watch/iPhone) as I know I'd be unlikely to use Payqwik/Zapp.

Payqwik and Zapp, along with Barclays BPay are all things that are, at least, 5 years too late. They'll flop. The sooner the better.

Are those services for the people on android/windows devices though?

Edit: i.e. To run alongside apple pay, not instead of.

Anyone having problems with Nationwide card? Tried yesterday and today in McDonalds. Both times was told payment had not been authorised by my bank. Phoned Nationwide to be told that the card was fine and that no payment had been requested and refused.

Were you doing these transactions particularly late at night by any chance?

Hey guys,

Got a bit of an update regarding the whole HSBC 'Card not Added' debacle.

I am currently in contact with a HSBC Apple Pay manager and Senior Advisor at Apple. Both parties have stated that the only fix for now is to wait until a software update fixes the issue. Both Apple and HSBC are aware of the issue and are in communication to allow people like us to provision their cards. Apple have stated that the issue will be rectified by the full release of iOS 9, which comes out usually in mid-September.

HSBC believes that the problem stems from the fact that I was on the iOS 9 beta when I tried to provision my card. Even though I have restored to 8.4, the secure enclave has not been wiped and still contains data that is blocking the card from being provisioned.

HSBC + Apple are supposed to be contacting me this Thursday, so I'll ensure I let everyone know what they say.

I was on iOS 9 and my HSBC card was working fine on it. I've had to drop down to 8.4 and it re-added fine. I think HSBC are spinning a yarn.

Sadly agreed, I've been through to engineers with Apple and they say it is a VISA issue. HSBC are now telling me that because I have used my card abroad in the last 3 months(!!!) VISA are blocking the provisioning of the card. Woo...the Customer Solutions advisor told me not to use my card at all for 2 weeks. How. Fantastic. Is. That.

HSBC are seemingly trying to blame anyone but themselves, that's all I can take from all this.
