The Starbucks I go to used to have NFC, but they just replaced the terminals with new non-NFC ones. ??? Starbucks trying to force people to use their payment method?

I just use my Starbucks card. It gets me points which turn into rewards and I'm fine with that. That said they should allow ApplePay and regular contactless payments as it's the way forward and more and more retailers are using it.

Apple Engineers have told me the exact error received when I try to add a card. It's VISA requiring "Additional security questions to be answered" but when I phone VISA Europe, they say it's HSBC who I should talk to. But it never gets to HSBC's system because it gets stuck with VISA.

ApplePay as was explained to me:

Apple (checks device is not blacklisted) -> VISA (checks card is valid and not blacklisted) -> Bank (verifies card is available for use with ApplePay and there are no blocks on the account) -> Card is added.

EDIT:
With regards to HSBC having more problems than other banks, I expect this is due to people attempting to add cards on the 14th when HSBC didn't go live as expected or some other data mistake between HSBC and Visa.

The error could easily be somethin g to do with HSBC's end causing the error with Visa if they've not got it set up right. I still say it's HSBC's fault, as other banks using Visa are fine.

Your edit makes no sense, as people did the same with the other banks, threads on here alone prove that.

I used Apple Pay today in M&S. I was expecting a £30 limit. But my shopping came to over £45 and I was able to pay for it with Apple Pay. So I'm unsure what the limits are (apart from the actual credit limit of your credit card) with Apple Pay?

The cards don't make it to HSBC's system. The stage at which verification fails is VISA. That's all I know. Don't shoot the messenger here, I have the same problem!

I managed to use Apple Pay with the Apple Store at Regent Street (£339) so am guessing (dependent on your credit limits) you could charge a fair whack through it?

In Apple Store and other retailers there is no limit apart from the money in your account for debit card and credit limit for credit card

Apple is one of the few retailers who have not had a limit on ApplePay from the beginning. Most retailers still have a £20 or £30 limit.

So I went to one my local Waitress branches after work today to do some shopping. I queued in line at one of the checkout counters which just happened to be operated by this pretty cashier. I decided to pay for my shopping using ApplePay on my watch. I told her I wanted to use ApplePay and activated it on my watch and paid for the shopping as usual by bringing the watch near the contactless card reader. As I did so she smiled and said that's so cool. That just made my day. LOL. :D

I had no trouble at all. Verified my debit card by text, and my credit card by phone. There is no option to verify the credit card by text for some reason.
Are you sure your mobile number is registered with Lloyds?

Yes, the last 4 digits are my mobile phone. Besides I always get he voice verification calls when using the online website.

If they can't handle a simple txt...

Yes my recycling bin is full with HSBC letters too, and this week I added three of their cards to my new iPhone and of course had to add them to the Watch again too. My postie won't be happy.

Clearly our top banks care very much about the environment and have no worries chopping down a tree to confirm you've added your card to Apple Pay...
