I have a question. When you have your credit cards setup in Passbook. What happens when you get a new iPhone and restore it off of a backup, does all the saved credit cards in Passbook get transferred over to the new iPhone or do you need to start from scratch with re-adding your credit cards?

For security and because the process relies on the secure element, new phone means you'll need to re-add all cards.

Just a heads up, you need to phone Lloyds Bank to register the card with the phone AND to the watch - not sure if you can do both in one call.
First call sets up card to phone, this frees up the watch to take the card, you then need a second call to register the card against the watch.
A hassle, but only take 2 mins.

Thanks for the heads up but I managed to verify the card by text message on both my iPhone and Watch.

Same thing happens when you do any kind of restore from backup. As I've said, I've done it about 15 times and HSBC sent me a welcome letter each time....

Thanks again.

Not a big deal I suppose and for security I guess it's a good idea (not restoring your credit cards from a backup). I have two credit cards, one is a breeze to add, I just chose from the verification options to verify by text message. The Lloyds card, is the one I need to place a telephone call, only takes 5 minutes I suppose and shouldn't need done again until I update my iPhone.

I had no verifying option apart from call Lloyds on my phone.
I didn't have a 6 digit security number set up for my account, they are sending me one this week. I assume that this will let me do it without speaking to someone next time.

I think Apple pay must work in any store with contact less pay,
That's weird as it's usually your DOB ie 010290
Yep any store with contact less pay seems to work.
For lloyds all I did was set up the card in my phone and enter a six digit code from a text message from lloyds. Had to repeat the process for my watch but it was very quick and easy

I love how Halifax and Lloyds users (new Apple Pay users) are re-asking all the same questions and making the same comments that were mentioned nearly 2 months ago.

I don't get what isn't clear in nearly all the places that contactless can be taken Apple Pay should work. Some places will allow no limit others the same as contactless - £20 if software not updated and £30 if it has.

Easy peasy. Just a shame that Capital One aren't on Apple Pay yet...

Well be prepared to answer the same questions in a years time when Barclays finally catches up

I've noticed that in London sometimes when trying to use Apple Pay it doesn't work with some contactless card readers. Obviously certain stores are partnered with Apple for native Apple Pay support (Boots, M&S etc) and they work perfectly.

However in addition to this Apple Pay should work with general Contactless card readers available throughout the UK (They are fairly popular and common place over here - as opposed to the US where I understand they are not as common).

In my brief testing I've noticed that in some places that even show the contactless symbol on the card reader Apple Pay doesn't work. It seems that the card reader needs to be a latest generation (i.e. look new) or Apply Pay doesn't seem to work.

For example when trying to use Apple Pay in Tesco and EAT this morning neither worked, even though the card readers showed the Contactless symbol.

Any ideas?

Is it only new contactless terminals that Apple Pay works with?

Thanks, John

I've used it in many places, in fact very few of the Apple Pay partners. The software needs to be updated to use it, which is what is annoying me about Tesco, they've been trialling contactless in London (and selected stores outside) for ages now... I'm not sure if I'd be able to identify an old contactless terminal from a new one though!

OK, cool - so am I correct in my assumption? i.e. are there *some* contactless terminals that **don't** work (even thought it's supposed to work anywhere with contactless?) and some that **do**?

Which Tesco was it out of interest? The Metro at Kensington had one similar to this:

And that worked fine.

I used my First Direct VISA Credit Card for the first time last week at McDonalds - very straight forward.

Just added my Halifax MasterCard Credit Card and hope to use on a trip to the US next month :D

These are in my local corner shop, which has taken over the Post Office from a separate building in the village. The shop has one space for the Post Office, and three to pay for your groceries. Four identical terminals and only the PO one is enabled for contactless as the Nisa software hasn't been updated yet.
Same in John Lewis, they have these but not enabled yet as I've asked..
