That's strictly not true and you were told wrong. Apple Pay is no different then regular contactless in that respect. The limits vary. A small number of stores have no limit for Apple Pay like the Apple stores, Pret A Manger, Nandos, Waitrose and Marks & Spencers. Most other retailers impose a £20 or £30 limit.
I wasn't told wrong. Contactless has a limit of £30, some stores still have not increased the limit but they should have. And if they are an Apple Pay partner then they shouldn't have a limit. The difference with Apple Pay is the fact it's a token being used for the transaction not your account details as is the case with normal contactless. It does require the retailer to have the most up to date card reader, software and firmware.

I think the issue is that retailers aren't updating the terminals as well as staff not really having any idea about Apple Pay. As I said in my previous post, Wilko is listed on Apple's website but their machines were capped at the usual limit last time I was there and when I asked to pay by Apple Pay (I was assuming they'd know what I meant) they literally had no idea, even asking 2 other members of staff for help and when they clearly displayed the Apple Pay logo. Not one of them knew what it was or how to put it through the till.

You're contradicting your own post. You clearly said you were told that any retailers that accept Apple Pay have no limit when this is obviously not the case.

The information provided is correct, it is how it is suppose to be. Card issuers can't help it if retailers do not keep up their end of the bargain.

Apple Pay is only limitless if a retailer decides to update their terminals so that they can accept authenticated transactions above the £20/£30 contactless limit from digital devices.

A number of Apple Pay partners are still rolling out upgrades. Until that roll out is complete the statement you made in your OP is incorrect.

I'm clearly not making my point correctly. I'm not going to try again, though just spent £187 in waitrose using Apple Pay.

Let's make it easy for you....

I registered my new MBNA credit card today and was told that anywhere that has the contactless logo will have a spending limit of £30, where as if it shows the Apple Pay logo the limit will be whatever is available on my credit card provided the retailer has upgraded their terminals! I could buy a small car using Apple Pay!

No it's not. There is no hard and fast rule that every retailer who offers Apple Pay has to offer it with no limit. Apple doesn't stipulate that retailers cannot have a limit on Apple Pay. It's down to the retailer whether they impose a limit or not. What you said was incorrect.

So are we 100% sure that M&S and Waitrose have no limit? I know the Apple Stores are ok for transactions only limited to your available funds.

Not yet - it's certainly more than £200 at waitrose and to be honest that's OK by me as I'd only spend more than £250 at Christmas I suspect...

Used my iPhone at WH Smiths today. Not sure what's more criminal... The fact they charge 79p for a Cadbury Creme Egg or the fact we've not had Christmas yet and they are already on sale!

I'm shopping at Tesco later (in Nottingham) so I wonder if they've enabled it there.
I couldn't actually try it as I was getting cashback (and using Waitrose as my example that always cancels the cashback if I use apple pay) but it was very prominent on the payment pad.

Pity the member of staff said it was up to £20 only :)

It is a pity... Just as bad as Boots when Apple Pay first launched and a couple of cashiers who served me had no idea about it (despite Boots being a launch partner!)

I do believe if you want cash back you have to process the transaction as Chip & PIN. Probably for security reasons?

Am hoping the Tesco Extra I'm shopping at tonight have it switched on so I can earn 5% cash back with TSB.

They've just upgraded the terminals in the office canteen, so I've been using a lot more regularly for coffee!

Whilst I still use my plastic more, it has changed my habit of touching to pay for lower value items when in the past I would have wasted a little time entering my PIN.

Still no sign of Barclay(card) coming on board which is a shame though.

I've seen somewhere (within the last week) someone from "high up" at Barclaycard/Barclay's Bank have been quoted as 'sometime' in 'early 2016'.

Loving this. Shame Barclays still missing.
