Had to sign for a transaction on the watch on Saturday. Very odd. £7 for a panini and a couple of soft drinks at a soft play cafe in Northampton. When I asked, they said it was to "verify my identity" yet I never had to produce a card (which of course the numbers wouldn't match anyway) - I should have signed it Mickey Mouse!

Wish the shops would get the loyalty cards integrated into Apple Pay, like Walgreens and that. So annoying with the seperate cards. The Stocard app is a good idea but never works on the scanners in tescos or sainsburys

Agreed.
So many loyalty cards just bulking up my wallet.

Stocard app hasn't worked for me.
Adds cards easily enough, but each time I am left standing like a tool trying to scan my iPhone.

ApplePay though has had a 100% success rate for me (everywhere Contactless is accepted, that is.)

I think the only time I've had any success with the Stocard app was at a Tesco Pay at Pump using one of the newer terminals.

Given the failure rate I ended up deleting the app.
Yup. Deleted Stocard.

Nationwide have told me that I will occasionally need to produce my card and enter the PIN to verify it, which kind of defeats the point of Apple Pay and the 'virtual wallet' Apple wants to create.

That's disappointing from Natwide t.b.h.

I've carried my rbs debit card occasionally though i've not yet needed to use when paying via iPhone 6.

Was any particular retailer mentioned?

I used b.p garage/Spar/Cost sofa/Mcdonalds no card or probs at all apart from an error message which requires a re swipe via phone-not a big though very rare.

I've got to admit it's never happened to me (and only ever once with a standard contactless card) but I have several cards set up with different banks, so if one needs a PIN, I'll just use another one.

With contactless payments periodically you are required to enter your PIN to verify you are the card holder (for obvious reasons).

Until these point of sale terminals are updated as such to recognise two factor authentication (may be wrong in my terminology) then a truly digital wallet is some way away.

You can now add Barclays debit and Barclaycards to Apple pay it seems - not had a chance to try to use it in the wild yet though.

Some further details available on the Barclays website now, including which cards/accounts are eligible.

Added my Barclaycard but no text with verification code sent yet, 5 minutes and counting

I'd imagine there are a lot of Barclays customers trying to add their cards at this moment in time; mine was pretty instantaneous.

I love the generic image on that webpage; they could have at least tried to photoshop the contactless logo a bit better!

Why would that change how you add to Apple Pay. At least it has arrived that's all that really matters not a photoshopped image!!

Good news about Barclays. I haven't add my debit card yet, but my boss successfully added his this morning without any issues. I'll add mine later and report back.

Anyone else noticed the dramatic reduction of retailers listed on the Apple Pay webpage? Not sure if these are the retailers that support limitless Apple Pay or not but it's definitely been shortened.

I also went back to Subway the other day, they now don't accept Apple Pay. They said they only accept contactless... wow.

There are a lot of retailers missing from the Apple Pay web page that were listed last July when it was enabled here in the U.K.

If I remember rightly Argos were shown for in app payments but that's never been to case, even as of today.

Boots are listed on the website but from what I've read on here (and elsewhere) they still won't allow Apple Pay over £30.00.

Glad the U.K. has joined the Apple Pay party. I just got back from a family vacation in and around London. We used Apple Pay to go all around London via the Tube and on buses. Worked great. No buying those travel cards or Oyster cards that most tourists purchase for tube/bus travel. Made things much easier -- just hold the phone over the big yellow circle at the tube gates and on buses -- bang -- its done. Now if only the black cabs took it (and didn't add the 5% extra for using a credit card too).

Subway not accepting Apple pay? since when It was only last week when I had a sub meal

They did a couple weeks ago when I went. Now they've got a sign up saying they don't accept it and only accept "regular" contactless. It may just be my Subway though…

I still find the whole implementation clumsy.

I was in Nero and presented my iPhone after saying I'd pay with card the iPhone didn't first seem to respond to the contactless so I pressed the home button. As I did this it had responded and made the audible beep to say it had paid even though it was now on the home screen. The Barista turned around from the coffee machine and saw me looking confused and then said I'd need to insert my card. She was right, it was now saying I'd need to swipe my card or insert it.

I find the unpredictability annoying, I often prime Apple Pay before I begin or just avoid it all together to save embarrassment of it not working.

I used my card twice in Subway on Saturday with no issue. And they are displaying the Apple Pay symbol in the window and next to the till. The staff seem well versed in it.

I also have never had one failed Apple Pay transaction. It's never been unpredictable, I use it in Morrisons, Tescos, Co Op, Subway, KFC, Boots, motorway service stations, Costa, etc...

Probably just that one. The cafeteria at my work stopped accepting all phone payments, they said it was something to do with the terminal clearing each day and the lose the payment record. (Not the money tho).

As with any contactless transactions periodically you're required to enter your PIN to prove you're the authorised card holder.

In your case I'd imagine this is what happened here; I've had the same 'audible' beep last year using Apple Pay at the Tesco Metro in Derby.

Thought the transaction had completed when I noticed the PIN pad asked me to insert the card.

With Apple Pay it'd be much easier if many more places realised people are using biometrics to conduct a transaction; I'm not saying it can replace the wallet (just yet) but as time progresses it'd certainly help cut down on card fraud.
