Aren't the vast majority of chip and pin transactions authorised online so the banks could, if the wished, send out a notification for every new transaction. Chip and pin transaction on the Santander spendlytics show up immediately but they don't send out a notification. I would have thought it would be useful thing to do as it would allow you to identify a fraudulent transaction immediately.

it would only really work if they *all* were (like unionpay). when you start not getting notifications for hours or longer for a spend on a train, or a plane, then it devalues the idea in the first place.

Tesco card arrived today.

Didn't manage activation via iPhone, though 1 phone call to 0345 number and activated no probs.

Since added my very lovely strawberry logo/silver card via iPhone. (in addition to rbs debit card)

Managed to do my weekly shop and fill the tank all through Apple Pay yesterday. Aldi for the shopping and Morrison's for the petrol. It'll stay that way until other supermarkets wise up!

EDIT: Just to be clear, neither were above £30.

Went to use Apple Pay on Tyne & Wear Metro today as their machines have contactless payments with the contactless logo
but wouldn't work, guess they're not Apple Pay enabled.

My local Tesco Metro works fine on the most part but now and then it does refuse to acknowledge my iPhone/Apple Watch.

Same has happened elsewhere (Morrison's, The Co-Op and also Boots).

My local Tesco Express has recently had contactless readers installed. Apple Pay worked when pressing the 'contactless' button on the self service, although prssing the normal card button seemed to make it reject the watch, even though the reader still showed the contactless logo and a normal contactless card worked.

What station were you at? I use Apple Pay every time I buy a ticket and I haven't had any problems.

Love being able to use Apple Pay in succession.

Just filled up at a BP Garage in Derby before heading over to McDonald's on Markeaton Island and use it again.

Either a) petrol is much cheaper further up the M1 or b) I need a smaller-tank car to fill up under £30!

Good and bad experiences for me recently...

Good: Used Apple Pay for the toll on the Severn bridge. Made going into Wales a bit less painful ;)

Bad: The coffee shop at my work has decided it no longer wants to accept Apple Pay. Contactless still works, but whenever I try to pay with my phone it comes back as declined. Annoying.

On a side note; is anyone getting a bit tired of cashiers still being surprised and "OMG that's so cool what is that?" about all this? Nearly every time I go to a checkout in Tesco the cashier has something to say :-/ Like, god damn, Apple Pay has been a thing for months and I can't be the only person in Bournemouth with an iPhone.

I've just been to the One Stop in Heanor and the girl behind the counter looked at me as if to say: "what are you doing?"

We're 10 months into Apple Pay being available now... So yes they need to mention something else LOL.

Hopefully with the launch of Android Pay over here it might push more businesses to actually pay attention...

I've gone back to using cards. Had too many intermittent failed attempts with TfL and various stores (using different providers' card details).

This may be a dumb question but does anyone know if retailers can actually block Apple Pay even though they accept contactless? I always thought that if they accept contactless then Apple Pay will just work (limited to <£30). But this doesn't seem to be the case with a few places I've been and it sounds like @CasuallyDressed has experienced the same.

Android Pay has launched in the UK now.

They are "one up" on Apple Pay; users can add loyalty cards to their wallets and use them at checkout.

About time the likes of Superdrug, Costa etc allowed them to be integrated into Apple Pay!

I guess if the retailer doesn't have the required credentials it could be possible for Apple Pay to be 'disabled'.

Either that or they haven't registered for the service with their merchant?

I just read up about this. The loyalty cards seems like a similar implementation to Apple Pay and Walgreens in the US. I hope this means some movement for Apple Pay loyalty cards here. Although Android could be getting exclusive rights to loyalty cards for some retailers in which case we may have to wait a while.

It's usually a case that a shop hasn't upgraded its terminals to support Apple Pay rather than are actively blocking it as I understand. Most terminals support contactless and of those that do most support Apple Pay. Some don't support certain card types for contactless or Apple Pay (e.g. Wilkinsons accept American Express but their terminals decline contactless and Apple Pay transactions with American Express cards).

Given Walgreen's have a majority stake you'd have thought the Boots Advantage Card would have been implemented by now.

I appreciate we are some time away from being able to leave our wallets/purses at home but we did have a bad day and left them behind it'd be great to know I could still earn rewards on top of using Apple Pay.
