Well I've just seen how it can work.

Used Waitrose's self scan app for iOS.

Scan items place in bag as you go along. Head to self service checkout, scan barcode on terminal and pay with Apple Pay.

Seamless transaction… I like it.

Is this in one of the trial stores, or has it been rolled out everywhere? My only worry would be dropping my phone (which is why I use one of the watch shopping lists, it's happened before).

I think it's still trial locations at the moment.

Did Apple Pay at Waitrose work for > £30 transaction?

This was in Bath, so not sure if it is available everywhere, but it appears on the Waitrose site so I suspect it has been rolled out everywhere.
And yes, the amount was above £30, so that still works.

Just downloaded the iOS app, App Store blurb says on trial but expected to roll out summer 2016. It's been warm this week here, that must be our summer done then?

My nearest Waitrose store is Ashbourne.

Am going there a week on Friday so will see if the trial might be operating there; I've had a look on the Waitrose website and Quick Check is seemingly listed twice.

Or am I being overly hopeful?!

Just done a soft reset on my iPhone and my 123 card says credit on the side; it never used to.

I've got the same credit card and I've just checked and it's also got credit… my debit card for Santander doesn't though. Odd.

It is odd, definitely. Just as odd as Lloyds Bank wanting me to call to verify my Choice Rewards credit card duo instead of using SMS.

I wouldn't mind but I need to call again at some point to add my cards to my Apple Watch.

Interestingly, I needed to call Lloyds to to verify my joint account, but just an SMS for my personal, wasn't any more secure anyway by phone.

When I've set up Apple Pay in the past I've been offered email or SMS.

It's only more recently I've had to call to verify.

And in terms of security being asked for my date of birth never feels "secure".

If my online banking had been compromised they'd have found it easily on there!

Towcester waitrose now have it, however I dropped in there to grab a couple of bits 5 minutes before it shut yesterday and the lady behind the desk said they'd had several problems with it, one lady had to ditch her shopping midway through.

I suspect if it needs a data signal throughout, that'll not help because 2/3 of the store is a black spot..

Does Waitrose Towcester have free in-store WiFi at all? I've not had chance to find out (yet) but I imagine the app will need some form of data signal to function correctly.

It does, but I often find it drops out quite a lot (I don't think it likes me being on a VPN)..

When Apple Pay launched in the UK Ocado was listed for in App purchases, but that never happened. On last night's Keynote Ocado was listed in background yet again for in Browser Apple Pay,I wonder if it happens this time or Ocado just used the opportunity again for a free advert.

Also noticed John Lewis and a few other UK merchants listed. It will be interesting to see which ones actually follow through and if/when John Lewis accept in-store Apple Pay.

Tried using Waitrose mobile pay last night. Never again! The app was very slow (Waitrose wifi), and couldn't scan my reduced item (loaf of bread). After that it refused to scan anything else (couldn't find the product) and wouldn't transmit the end of transaction to the till. Went through a standard till - bill was £30.20 and only option still was to stick card in.

That is a bugger.

So far I have not experienced glitches, apart from once where it scanned my Almond milk twice. But apart from that no problems.

I do think though if they want this to work and not just die in the cradle they need to boost their in-store WiFi…

I think they use o2's WiFi network don't they? It's all well and good having these ideas but if they're going to be half-baked it doesn't make for a seamless shopping experience does it?

In terms of another supermarket I wonder if Tesco are planning on rolling out contactless payments to their larger formats...

Both the store I work in and the Extra at Ilkeston have a message on the SACAT along the lines of if you've inserted a Chip & PIN card not to forget to remove it.

Might be something or nothing (seeing as they have a newer voice these days) but I can't ever recall seeing the message when the update was first rolled out...

My local The Range has upgraded their terminals to support contactless payments. ApplePay works fine.

Apple Pay should be interesting in MacOS Sierra, i wonder how many websites will be using this in the UK, Amazon UK would be great considering it's a site i use more often. Also am i right in thinking that it will be more secure because we wont have to enter in credit or debit card details?

Also does anyone know if Apple Pay is being accepted at HMV stores?
