I was in Aberdeen over the weekend. Paid for my taxi using Apple Pay. It's getting around.
About time too-just wish more of the places I frequented had it!

It was a service called cab:app. They have an app in the app store. The cabby was saying it's not like uber and they're all black cabs but you can request them through the app and everything. I just hopped in one at the station, noticed the Apple Pay sign and paid! Had one of these: https://www.izettle.com/gb/card-readers/pro-contactless which I'm seeing more and more popping up, think I saw them in Lush last time I was in there.
Well just went to buy fuel from the BP near my work place and got told their contactless is capped at £20...
£20! That's useless! £30 I can just about get away with when my tank is just under 1/2 full. But £20 is useless. Why they're listed in the Apple Pay page is beyond me.
Hmm I filled up this morning and noticed that little green surround has been updated to include the android pay symbol and has dropped the £30 limit logo. I almost tried it for mine but bottled it lol given the flipping reader is on the right hand side of the machine...Well just went to buy fuel from the BP near my work place and got told their contactless is capped at £20...

Yeah... Never understood that as pretty much everywhere it's hold your phone/Watch on top of the reader.
Don't know why they've dropped the £30 limit...
According to BP on Twitter they're in the process of upgrading the terminals to drop the £30 limit for Apple/android pay and all should be complete by the Autumn.
I might actually try it next week...

Well that is ridiculous as the contactless limit has been raised to £30 since last year and all companies should have updated their systems to reflect this - if not then they are breaking card authority rules

I just went looking for this and saw the tweet. I did notice the terminal at one of the Warwick BPs didn't have the £30 limit on it and shown the logos for Apple & Android Pay. Just wish Shell did contactless as well.
Just been to my local Tesco extra (Kingston Park, Newcastle) and they've got contactless readers at every till. I'm guessing they're limited to £30 as usual as there was no Apple Pay or Android Pay signage anywhere. But there's more stores I'm going to that have new readers now so hopefully we'll eventually see Apple Pay at Tesco…
I'm guessing it's going to be gradual roll out but the next time the chance arises I'll check the Extra at Ilkeston and Toton and report back accordingly.
The Tesco I work at must be earmarked (unless it was a nationwide software update) as the self service checkouts say if you are using Chip & PIN to remember your card and it never used to.
Yeah it definitely is a gradual rollout but it's good to see them outside of London stores!
One thing I do really like about how they've implemented contactless is that the reader is ready to accept contactless without me having to tell the cashier how I'm paying. It seems as soon as they total the transaction the ability to pay with contactless is immediate. Haven't tried it at a self-serve yet but I imagine it's the same!
Using stocard to scan my clubcard at checkout too... my wallet is seeming more and more useless as the days go on.
Certainly did. It never scans at self-service tills though but it does at manned tills and at the 'scan as you shop' bit where you pick up your scanner....
I take it they used the hand held scanner to zap your screen?

That's pretty disappointing to hear. The companies they list should be limitless. That's one of the advantages of Apple Pay.I managed to get Stocard to scan at the Pay @ Pump last night but the Toton Extra still has the old fashioned Chip&PIN readers.
Meant to say I contacted Apple re: BP and they just said each country/merchant/bank has their own limitations and directed me to the support pages for Apple Pay; so they're happy to have the BP logo on their website even if it's capped at £20!

Absolutely. It's now at the point the only place I'd be using Apple Pay frequently is that BP Garage.
Anywhere I'm using often still doesn't have NFC terminals (or they do but contactless isn't enabled).
Same here. It's at the point for me where I use it more than Chip & PIN.
Definitely need more movement on loyalty cards. The digital driving license would be ideal, my wallet would start to feel neglected.Lack of store loyalty cards still bugs me. First item on my wish list. And as soon as the UK introduces a digital driver's license, I'll be happy to leave my wallet at home.
