On the android pay website for the UK it shows with a Waitrose payment over £30.
I hope that means the silly limit had been lifted.

I also hope it'll mean a few more retailers will install contactless payment terminals (or enable them) with many more supporting payments for >£30 be it Apple Pay or Android Pay.

Well further to my previous posts I too am starting to have issues at McDonalds

I have used it loads at the same ones since it went live. The last few uses declined everytime and I had to use my card. I re-registered it again and it worked for one attempt and now declined again.

I just used it in Nandos which exceeded £30 and it worked no problem.

It should be if you have the Apple Pay sticker you can drain the bank account or max the credit card in one transaction, if it's just contactless there should be no sticker (hehem Morrisons) for Apple Pay - if you have the stickers and a limit Apple should sue the shop on its users behalf :p

Am pretty sure Morrison's were displayed on the Apple Pay UK website (alongside Argos).

But I agree; no displaying the Apple Pay decal unless it takes payments over £30.

I note on the Daily Telegraph website in regards to Android Pay so long as the screen is on you don't need to authorise contactless payments under £30.

I don't know about anyone else but I'd rather use my finger print to authenticate the payment regardless of the amount spent.

Thanks for the recent tips for using a contactless card.

Though I would give my debit card a try this morning, that was very simple and fast.

Hardly lifted my card from my pockets and 'beep' petrol and milk are debited

Apple need to encourage uptake of Apple Pay first, then use that to pressure retailers to increase or remove limits. If there are no stickers it might discourage first time users from trying Apple Pay at all.

Agreed, they should get it in the majority of retailers first and then work on removing the limit.

Yesterday I noticed Home Bargains have now upgraded their card readers to work with Apple Pay. I don't know if the £30 limit applies because I only spent £15.

I'm really glad Android pay is here. I have no idea on proportions of the UK who have an Android phone v an iPhone but it's got to bump up the usage, and therefore should drive the adoption up. It feels over the past few weeks like there are niggles cropping up - retailers no longer accepting it, varying degrees of acceptance at national chains such as Maccy D's (used my watch in there for the first time on Sat in our local one no problems), acceptance of > £30 being thin on the ground, etc. I want to get to the point of not carrying cards but I feel I'm no closer to that than I was when Apple Pay came out.

Same here. Take Aldi for example. They offer contactless payments but go to Asda and they don't.

I think there are more Android phones out there capable of NFC payments than there are iPhone but I know if I were a major retailer I'd be doing more to take contactless than some of them are right now.

Just been to Home Bargains. They now accept Apple Pay. Got signage near their readers. I was there last week and they didn't take contactless. Receipt said cardholder verified as well!

I'm guessing if it says Cardholder Verified we'll be able to spend over £30 in there then?

Meant to reply to this thread sooner but it looks as if McDonald's are capped at £30 regardless of the payment method from the signage on their POS.

That's what I thought. Because then it's verified that the cardholder is present and therefore isn't any different from Chip and PIN. So in theory it should be limitless...

I've seen signage at McDonalds saying they offer contactless methods up to £30 and then in the small print says this includes Apple Pay, so Mcdonalds is limited.

For me, contactless=Apple Pay enabled, really just depends on the age of the contactless reader.

Asking for ":apple: Pay" seems to confuse quite a few , so I just ask if they do contactless.

If they say "yes, si, oui, tak, نعم فعلا, ja or sim" (depending where in the UK I am ;) /jk) I treat it as an ordinary contactless payment - with my iPhone instead of a card - hold my iPhone at the contactless terminal, finger on the button, and 99% of the time it works. (Apart from a few Caffe Nero hold-outs).

Example: Bought a stack of books at Oxfam bookshop yesterday, the poor old dear ringing up the total had no clue even about contactless, I showed her which one I wanted her to use, and all fine.

For me, it has made payments one hell of a lot easier! Now just get the loyalty cards on as well.

Some good news about the coffee shop at my work! I bugged the guy who does the tills and he said the normal terminal was broken so they've been using a backup for the last few weeks, but they've had the original repaired and he stuck it back in a few days ago. Tried it out and working again! So it wasn't a refusal to accept Apple Pay after all.

I know if you live in certain areas you can add a Tesco Clubcard to the Wallet app but seeing as the majority of Tesco stores don't yet have NFC terminals I guess you have to scan it first then use Apple Pay?

The McDonald's near my is now not even displaying the Apple Pay sticker. It used to. However Apple Pay is working again.

Looks like Home Bargains has joined the contactless world. Even displaying Apple Pay on the terminal

Yet again Apple Pay failed on me in Boots.
I realise it seems to be that Amex support continues to be flakey, but it doesn't exactly instill confidence.

I can't believe these problems in major partner retailers continue to exist a year in.

Not all boots stores accept Amex. The ones that do are flakey at best. Defiantly an issue with boots themselves.

Ending up paying with Amex Chip&Pin, so they definitely accept it.
Obviously it's not clear if the problem lies entirely with retailers or the card providers. I guess it's quite complex behind the scenes

Has anyone else hear tried My Local since Morrison's offloaded the business?

Popped in there on the way home this morning and tried Apple Pay on two different cards and neither would work.

It used to work when Morrison's owned them and it wasn't the PIN check as both cards were used the other day for Chip & PIN transitions.

Well I've just seen how it can work.

Used Waitrose's self scan app for iOS.

Scan items place in bag as you go along. Head to self service checkout, scan barcode on terminal and pay with Apple Pay.

Seamless transaction… I like it.

Sounds quite good. Do you pay with Apple Pay at the actual checkout or is it in-app Apple Pay?
