More and more are slowly accepting it, but 9 times out of 10 the retailer won't even be aware that they do.

Yes Apple Pay can be used for transactions above £30 if retailers allow it.
I've only done it once, paid about £36 in a restaurant that had a new Barclays terminal (I felt some irony it being a barclays machine given their delays in supporting Apple Pay via their cards)
That is the theory, but in reality it is hardly ever possible. Waitrose used to and then stopped it. M&S still does allow payments over £30, someone once mentioned Aldi, but I haven't tried that one yet, and have my doubts. If you really want to splash out, the Apple Store is your friend. As long as your credit allows you can buy a shiny new Mac with your iPhone or Watch.
Whilst it's not contactless, I used Apple Pay to buy my new watch and phone+ case. The first time I've used Apple Pay via an app for something other than a pizza.
It wasn't 100% successful, the case went through fine but Apple said there was an issue with the watch although barclaycard denied blocking it. Apple then confirmed it was ok without retrying it, so no idea what actually happened.
The phone isn't due so waiting still on that one.

I had my doubts too about Aldi as my receipt always said no cardholder verification but one day when my total was £31~ the terminal said insert/swipe/present card so I tried Apple Pay and voila! It worked and the cashier had no idea how either. The receipt still said no cardholder verification so it may have been a glitch or something, I'm not sure.

BP sent out info saying they had now enabled Apple Pay across all their stores, but I asked on Twitter to have it clarified it was still £30 and under, which doesn't count as far as I'm concerned!
So, it's still a minefield, Contactless.life is a useful site to see what the current state of play is...
I might just reach out to Tesco and see if they have any plans to roll out Apple Pay >£30.00.
Am surprised BP won't have it for higher value amounts; not unless it has something to do with some sites being a franchise?

Wandering around London, almost everywhere seems to allow Apple Pay over £30. Yesterday I paid for £300 of gear in a scuba diving shop with Apple Pay, then lunch over £100 at a steak restaurant, with Apple Pay, then £45 at crock shop, with Apple Pay. Hard to find anywhere that doesn't do it. I just say, "pay with card machine please" and then use the iPhone.

As demonstrated above Aldi appear to accept it for £30 and above.
I've reached out to Tesco and they've no plans at present to raise the limit for Apple Pay; they've asked for my details to lodge something internally. Hopefully with sufficient amounts of people doing the same they'll follow suit.
Asda near to me in Bristol now supports contactless. I will test whether they can support >£30 via Apple Pay on my next shop and post results.

Series 2 just adds GPS waterproofing and a brighter screen. (Most people are now referring to the original Watch as series 0

Thank you. I won't be selling Series 0 as the glass has suffered some damage over the last 12 months and the case has a few marks too.
Might keep it as a back up or see if anyone would like it as a "hand me down".
Back to Apple Pay my local One Stop in Heanor is weird.
Used it once and had Verified by Device PIN on the receipt.
Used it again and it said No Cardholder Verification.
Called in this morning and it's reverted back to Verified by Device PIN!
BP's twitter have confirmed on multiple occasions that they are rolling out >£30 for Apple and Android Pay. They said it will be done by November so we will have to wait and see I guess.
Varying spending amounts; the first transaction was for £14 odd, the second for around £25 and the third for £14 odd again.
All three transactions were a Visa Debit card too (Lloyds Bank).
I am loving using Apple Pay on my new Watch but wasn't too sure where it was accepted. Reading this thread is it right that anywhere that takes contactless you can use Apple Pay for up to £30 and if the retailer actually has an Apple Pay logo can you pay a higher amount? (Can you pay in JD Sports for example with +£100) It's quite addictive I am finding!!
Anywhere that is contactless = Apple Pay up to £30. Some stores with the decal are only up to £30 whereas Apple, Nando's and others are limited to your available funds.

I wouldn't hold out much hope on Amex, it's always been a difficult card to use in the UK, so with Apple Pay it's just as annoying.
They don't have a huge market in the UK so there's not a massive incentive to fix things.
I have a corporate Amex card that works with Apple Pay but I rarely need to use in the UK. I got to use it in Switzerland in August which was interesting as Apple Pay is new there.
Ah that is such a shame. I have the cash back card and the rewards are fantastic, but it's just frustrating how hit and miss it is to actually use it (most of the time Miss) although it's extra annoying when places take Amex, but not Amex Apple Pay!!!
