I remember seeing BP respond to a tweet saying they were rolling >£30 out to all their locations and will be complete by Autumn.
I hope this is still the case given they put a few weeks ago they'd finished rolling out Apple Pay to all their stores and I replied asking them if that meant >£30 and they responded no...

Well I have an interesting story. Just did my food shop at Aldi. Came to pay and the balance was £31.55, thought I'd have to pay with card. Terminal still said present or insert card so I tried Apple Pay and it went through! But I've checked my receipt and it still says no cardholder verification so I have no idea how that worked. I asked the cashier and she was as surprised as me that it went through above £30. Anyone else tried?

I asked BP on Twitter this time and they have the same answer that I had seen previously...

I'm pretty sure I've read earlier on in this thread that American Express via Apple Pay is problematic in a lot of stores, including Morrison's.
It certainly is for me - initially I thought it was because the stores don't take Amex (it can be very hard to tell, and often the store workers are not sure either), but it only works about 50% of the time in stores that DO take Amex.

I would try where I work but Lloyds Bank insist on me calling them to add my AmEx to my iPhone.

Did it once and was told I could add it to my Watch with SMS Verification rather than having to call back up again... Nope. Needed to call so haven't bothered since.

For some reason you always have to call Lloyds to add a Lloyds credit card to Apple Pay.You can add debit cards via SMS but not credit cards. I have no idea why.

No, nor do I. When Apple Pay launched for Lloyds Bank last September it was possible for SMS Verification with a credit card.

Still I have other cards for Apple Pay that currently earn me rewards.

Just frustrating for those who have an AmEx that can use contactless with the plastic card but not with Apple Pay.

I have a Lloyds Master Card, you still have to phone Lloyds to verify that. So, like you, I do not bother with credit cards on Apple Pay.

Sorry what I meant was last year (certainly in my experience anyway) there was no need to call Lloyds to verify the card. For whatever reason (since then) they've changed it.

Noticed Tesco Extra at Kingston Park has updated their machines, the only extra store in the Newcastle/Gateshead area by the looks of it as other nearby stores that I go to still have the old ones.

Tesco Extra at Trinity Square now has contactless working (at least at the self service machines).

I used to work for Asda on the self service and always saw people trying to use contactless. I left the company earlier this year and sent some feedback about contactless but also made a big deal about accepting Apple Pay in full. I got the following response:

Thank you for getting in touch with your suggestion to introduce contactless payments in our stores.

I have passed this suggestion onto our Retail Operations Team and asked that they take these comments on board when they review our payment methods.

Thanks again for getting in touch with this suggestion, we really do appreciate it as it allows us to better understand what our customers would like to see in the future.

Did you contact them as a member of staff or customer?

Went in Asda tonight at MetroCentre and they now have contactless payments on their terminals, would've used it but left my iPhone in the car

Read on twitter that people are being told Apple Pay won't work on the terminals even though contactless is working at ASDA. I don't think they realise that accepting contactless means Apple Pay will just work up to £30.

It's been out long enough to know Apple Pay = contactless.

Walmart might be reluctant to enable it over in the U.S. but as mentioned above by 2020 everywhere has to offer contactless payments.

Nothing is 100% secure BUT I really wish more retailers would see that Apple Pay is safer (and therefore extend the £30 limit) because a system hack doesn't mean compromised details like a physical card does.

So true, my local Asda has contactless terminals now. Always say paying via contactless rather than ApplePay.

I do exactly the same even in a retailer who has Apple Pay decals in the Windows/at the Point of Sale.

I will say out of the places I've used my Watch my Tesco store is by far the quickest and easiest in terms of paying/processing the transaction.
