So, interestingly, I now show a different Firmware version on my new Pencil than I did a few days ago. This new Firmware had to have happened overnight.Screen shot of the two.
My Pencil is now 42%. Zero usage, other than circling the number above. On the other hand, my old Pencil, that pairs with my iPad 9.7”, is still at 100% charge, also with zero usage. Both pencils were charged to full capacity over the weekend.
Edit: Lol, just checked. My Pencil actually dropped another 2% just in the length of time it took to write this particular post! So obviously this NEW Firmware version is helping......NOT so much.....

As it happens after I posted my screenshot I discovered my Pencil wasn’t charging at all - there was no sign of the charging animation no matter how I attached it. A reboot of the iPad got it back to normal though. May be related or just a coincidence....

A few minutes ago, I posted that my Pencil had dropped another 2% (to 42%),while just writing that post. Have still not used pencil for anything, and right now it is at 38%. That makes a 4% drop in about 5 minutes

I was experiencing rapid drain (from 100 to 80 in a few minutes). After unpairing and re-pairing it is fine now. It drops to 91% in the first hour but then stays there for another hour.

I’ve connected and charged the Pencil, unpaired & re-paired, restarted no update. About to just return the pencil

Do you really think Apple will bend towards what YOU are accustomed to rather than what most people do?
I don't expect anything good from Apple. From them only deceits/scams and price increases. They never cared about what customers really wanted. Their formula is known: they impose what we should have in their products and later when the iSheeple have no other choice they assert everyone approved their decisions.

It's all hype and the fact the opponents are also incompetent.

Not me. I wish the owner of my former Airpods good luck (sold them a long time ago), Not buying another wireless headphone. From them or anyone else. I prefer the wired versions.

When I don't like something I vote with my wallet and replace with what suits me.

How much are you losing in terms of battery?

I lose about 10% every 15 minutes.

Mine is at 91% after being separate from the iPad for almost 20 hours. I just reconnected it and remember when we do that it probably fires back up and stays connected for some time and we'll still see that rapid drain. As soon as it goes to sleep, though, the rapid drain stops. What I'm thinking is if your pencil was at 80% and you set it aside it will continue to drain until it goes to sleep again and that might be at 50% or lower (just throwing that out there as an example).

Mine has not yet updated to the new firmware.

It's tough to get a handle on this because the experience seems to be different for a number of people. It's frustrating when Apple doesn't provide just a simple explanation of what to expect.

That is more or less what I am experiencing, even though I unpaired it, then repaired after I noticed the Firmware update. It's definitely going back. I want a new Pencil.
I just checked my old Pencil on the 9.7” IPP. They had both been charged to 100% at the same time. This one is at 90%; my new Pencil is at 29%. Zero usage on both, except for the pairing process.

I haven't charged my pencil in over 2 days, I've drawn about 5 hours total yesterday and today, and it's sitting at 51%

Mine finally updated to the new firmware and now shows no drain (100%) after sitting on my desk for over an hour. Go figure. I'm going to leave it overnight just to see what it does.

:(. Mine is at 23% right now. Zero use. Battery just drains away.
I purposely tested mine last night by charging it to 100% and then taking it off the iPad and going to bed. This morning after 8 hours it was still at 100%.
If you've already tried unpairing and rebooting your iPad, and if you are on the latest firmware, I would definitely return it.

Same here. At 100% this morning. It is on the new firmware but I have not rebooted my iPad or magnetically connected it. I tapped the screen with the Pencil to 'wake' it.

For sure the Pencil will be returned. This morning I compared the old Pencil (with my 9.7” iPP), and it was at 90%. My new Pencil (with my 11” iPP), was at 19%, and that is with the new Firmware. Both pencils were charged to 100% for this test, and neither of them has been used since their charge. I had also done a soft reset on my new iPP.

Leaving mine off charge for 12 hours at work to see how the battery life drops when using it too through the night.

I can confirm that the pencil sleeps after a certain period of time without being used. I took my pencil off the iPad at some point yesterday and then tried to use it today. It was not functional until I set it in the magnet. The iPad confirmed it still had over 80% charge, and it worked great once I picked it up again. It seemed it needed the iPad magnet to “wake up.”
