Not everybody, but definitely Apple are.

No they didn't. They say it's not intentional throttling (that starts magically when the new iPhone comes out), rather it's a "battery saving feature". Hahaha, yeah really Apple.
According to Apple, it's a "power management" feature that helps protect the iPhone from random shutdowns and damage to its components.

They're doing it for good, not evil.
I have to agree with you

This is really funny, sorry. As an engineer and owner of 4 generations of iPhone I cannot believe a single word in this marketing propaganda. This is what I call "Apple denial" of reality.

Also this all is heavily an offtopic, so sorry guys.

The scratches are there, period.

IT's a magnet. Apple cannot control if you get metal particles stuck between the device no more than dirt on the screen and you use the pencil. Wipe them both before you pair them together and this should be a non issue. I'm sure there are some natural defects causing this, but also exercise a little common sense too. It's always hard to decipher what one person's meaning behind "I take good care" and another's is. It's a relative statement.

This.

This is also a thing with magnetic tank bags you may use on a motorcycle for example. Magnets pick up metal from various places and will scratch stuff.

Also... even more importantly its a disposable electronic device. It is not going to last forever. It is made of metal to take bumps and scratches and continue to operate. Small marks are basic wear and tear and to be expected.

I mean go outside and look at the front of your car. Chances are if you actually drive it you will have stone chips, scratches, etc. and that's a far more expensive and long-lived item than your ipad.

My $0.02, someone posted about this issue on a ProCreate group and this made me check my pencil and iPad. I had noticed some dark spots on the pencil before but dismissed it as just smudges, but now I noticed the scratches on my iPad. Although the damage is less severe than the dent I caused myself by dropping the iPad it does worry me a bit that this happens as I intend to use this iPad for a long time so I ordered a sleeve (same one as the yellow/red posted earlier in this topic but a different color combo) in the hope that it will prevent the scratches getting worse. If I am going to be in the neighborhood of an Apple Store I will probably try and see what they say about it, my Apple Care is still valid for another year.

Since I really don’t want to use a pencil case for now given some reviews say it is thick or impacts the charging magnet, I decided to keep the plastic wrap that comes with the pencil instead. I did cut the pointy sticker part off. So far no scratches for me. I will probably get a case eventually after the wrap is worn out.

I just use a ZUGU case on my iPad and then the side is protected with a thin layer of case. The pencil still attaches and charges, but no direct contact.

I have a 2018 12,9" space grey iPad Pro with an Apple pencil 2 for less than a month.

I always treat my electronics extremely carefully (always with case) but... small vertical scratches have appeared on the right side of my iPad Pro just where the magnet that holds the Apple Pencil in place is.

The scratches have also started to rub against my Apple Pencil and scratch the pencil itself.
It is really anoying to have an almost new and expensive device damage from "scratch".

I found some threads in the internet concerning this, so it seems is not an occasional problem.

Unfortunately I visited an apple store genius bar and they didn't know anything about that and did not offer me any solution (claiming the damage was probably done by me).

So...

Has anyone else experienced this?
Have we got an apple pencil 2 "scratchgate" on going???
I have The same issue always treat my electronics very carefully! I noticed scratches on the sides of my iPad about 3 weeks after I purchased it and they are deep too! Also i have scratches on the pen itself. Apple says it is a cosmetic issue however its not Ive put clear tape over the scratches so it doesn’t do more damage but the pencil still scratches the tape until it’s completely ripped if that makes sense! for such an expensive product this should not happen!

I am not sure what you guys are doing with your devices when you claim you take care of them, but I’ve got to iPad pros each with a pencil that are going on 18 months old almost now and none of them have any of these scratches you guys claim just popped up. There must be some kind of metallic debris around on the environment that the magnets are catching and is causing it to be scratched because I don’t see any of that

Second that.

My 2018 ipad pro is still scratch free, used pretty much every day.

It has white dot on the screen, but that's a whole other issue.

FWIW, I got my 2018 12.9 inch iPad Pro the day they came out, along with the Pencil 2. Since then, I have used the Pencil daily, removing it and (gently) replacing it at least once, usually several times. I've also taken the iPad around and about in a neoprene 12 inch laptop case with the Pencil attached and in the same case--admittedly infrequently. I just checked both the magnet/side of the iPad and the Pencil 2 and neither is showing scratches. So this isn't a universal problem, although I have no doubt it exists for some folks.

When not in use, the iPad sits on a table in my living/dining room, so it doesn't get very dusty but it certainly isn't especially protected from dust either. I have no idea what I'm doing, if anything, that has protected my iPad. I'm just glad it is not affected. Obviously YMMV.

I could see how there would be a mark if someone pressed really hard and tried to grind the pencil into the metal siding of the iPad. Or say it was in a backpack and getting pressed against while walking, or an iPad sleeve that was just a little too tight? I have a Mostso sleeve and I put the iPad into my backpack with the pencil facing upward so nothing can press down on it while it is in my backpack (next to my laptop). Definitely appears pretty robust to me.

My new 11in Pro, that has been out of it's box a week come tomorrow is already showing signs of this on a brand new Apple Pencil 2.

This is what my previous 12.9 3rd gen looks like after about 18months or so. Works just fine though, regifted to the wife.

I have the same problem on my Ipad Pro 2020 12.9 inch. When I noticed this my pencil was covered in black color, which I could wipe off. Except one dot remained, just as in the other cases described here. But apparently that color was my space grey covering of the ipad. The way my pencil was covered in black, this could have never been from "scratching". Plus, it happened over night so it was just laying on my desk without any movement. I don't know if it was caused by heat or magnets, but this shouldn't be considered a cosmetic damage caused by the user. Something is definitely fishy, as this appears to be a widespread problem and most cases I read here say it happened directly after purchase.
