Cross post from the iPad forum: Apple Pencil Order Status Thread

My 11:30 11/11 UK Pencil order is still Processing, even though my AMEX card had a pending £79 from Apple appear on Friday (normally a sure fire sign that an order is about to prepare for dispatch). However this morning I noticed that the pending £79 has gone! It looks like there has been a major 'muck-up' with logistics, and an batch due in to Apple UK (Syncreon) on Friday did not arrive. Could explain why UK Apple Stores don't seem to have any pencils so far this week.

That's really unfortunate! I'm sure you'll get it soon though, you must be pretty high up the queue.

You were right! It just changed to Preparing for dispatch in the last few minutes!

If my theory is right, I predict that UK Apple Stores will be getting Pencils tomorrow!

What theory is that ?

The theory is that there was a major 'muck-up' with Apple UK logistics last Friday. My AMEX card showed £79 pending at 5am i.e. it looked like the distribution centre was getting ready for stock coming in later that day. But my order stayed at processing until earlier today, and the pending £79 dropped off this morning. Then a few minutes ago the order changed to preparing for dispatch. So it looks like Apple UK (Syncreon) were expecting Pencils on Friday but they never arrived, but they have received some today. So assuming Syncreon also send out stock to the physical Apple Stores (can any one confirm?), then there could be stock heading out today to be delivered to stores tomorrow.

Ahh .. OK. Note to self to check availability tomorrow AM. My 12th order is still showing late December ...

None in Basingstoke today - fingers crossed your theory is correct and there will be some there tomorrow :)

Ok, I buy that. It could be a possibility. One more morning schlep to the store tomorrow then

BTW, I was told twice to check online before going to the store as if they receive stock it should be possible to reserve for pick up. I'm not sure if that's true though... :S

I keep getting told this but I think even if they did receive stock that option still wouldn't work…

Was told that too.
As per my earlier post..... the pickup option is only likely to be available if a store receives a reasonable number of Pencils (e.g. more than 10)...... which so far is unheard of (reports suggest they have been receiving low single digit volumes). This would also explain why not a single store has had pickup as an available option for a Pencil.

I think the only hope of using the Pickup option is if there is suddenly a high volume of stock delivered (unlikely!).

Yeah I know. And I explained that to the guy at Apple and he wasn't convinced.

I might pop in later, but I don't see why they should deliver pencils there and not to Covent
Assuming the manager at Covent Garden is correct, they first (except launch day) got Pencils and Keyboards on Friday - they got three of each.

Regent Street meanwhile is receiving a handful on most days.

Of course, this is all apparently!

Has there been any word on why there is a shortage? I rarely buy Apple products as soon as they are released so I don't really know if this is normal or if there is some manufacturing problem we don't know about.

All speculation at this point but lots of rumblings about late quality control issues, and last-minute addition of the Lightning-to-Lightning adapter.

I'm guessing Apple wouldn't say if this was true or not.

If only Best Buy did international shipping... they seem to be getting regular stock.
