Agreed. I hope they get rid of the 3D Touch hardware and replace it with more battery capacity

If they can save some mm points, that will not go towards user experience of better battery, that will go towards space saving for an even thinner device.

For me, 3D Touch caused more issues than benefits. In games, it would somehow minimize the screen during critical moments, and I often used it by accident rather than on purpose. I prefer having the feature turned off. It keeps it consistent with my iPad and eliminates accidental use of it.

False. Long press on the XR can not fully replace 3D Touch. The fact that you think it can shows that you don’t really grasp the full range of 3D Touch features. Long press is NOT the same thing.
No it's not exactly the same, but real world functionality is arguably better, because people will actually use it. 3D Touch's implementation and inconsistency make it a horrible UI feature overall.

To save money and distance it from the XS and XS Max that still have it. The XR is just slimmer down mid tier device aimed at the mainstream.
There are rumours it will be deleted in the OLED models in 2019 too. The plan is to implement CGS in the OLED models in 2019.

CGS in LCD in 2018 meant loss of 3D Touch. The jury is still out whether or not CGS in OLED means the loss of 3D Touch there too.

Well, you’re welcome to state your opinions as objective facts, but that doesn’t actually make them more than your opinions.

Yes, they are my opinions, but one that is shared by many, many developers. Similarly, just because you think 3D Touch is better does not in any way make it fact.

Even Apple as the leader of 3D Touch has not done very well with this, and now in 2018 they've removed the feature from one of their models.

I’ll really only miss it as a shortcut for seeing which app in a folder has a badge icon. I like the tech and think it has potential, but haven’t seen it implement in meaningful way really.

An ad populum fallacy isn’t much of a rebuttal.

And it’s also germaine to note that Apple has not eliminated 3D Touch. The fact that it isn’t included in the XR doesn’t mean that Apple is abandoning it, no matter what Nilay Patel told you to think about it.

Obviously you've ignored my posts above. I never once even mentioned that guy.

Let me state this again, since you didn't bother reading it the first time.

Apple has implemented CGS in the Xr in 2018, but not on the OLED models. Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that the OLEDs will get CGS in 2019. Some believe CGS precludes the usage of 3D Touch completely, while others may believe that CGS + OLED is possible but expensive.

Either way, Apple chose to just get rid of 3D Touch in the Xr, and there is also a possibility they will do the same for OLEDs in 2019.

My OPINION is the smartest decision would be make both the LCD lines consistent with the OLED lines, and remove the 3D Touch feature from ALL models. This would lower cost (even if it could be implemented), for a feature that even Apple itself has not implemented very well, and 3rd party developers have implemented very poorly overall.

Why is the XR supposedly missing some of the 3DTouch features then? Moving the cursor using the haptic feedback on the keyboard is perhaps it’s most useful aspect.
This would be available on the Xr, and in fact on my 7 Plus with 3D Touch turned off.

Try it and see. Turn off 3D Touch, pull up the keyboard, and then long press the space bar. Voila! You get trackpad keyboard cursor mode.

Given these posts, I get the impression some people haven't spent a lot of time on their iPhones with 3D Touch turned off. Yes, it's true that long press doesn't work for a lot of things this way, but that's because that's the way the OS is designed. Turning on 3D Touch actually turns off long press support. If you turn off 3D Touch, then you get long press support, albeit not in all situations where 3D Touch would be.

Don’t get your constant argument against a feature you can easily turn off if unwanted. Don’t be naive thinking Apple will pass on the savings. I’ve been an avid supporter of Apple (see signature), but it’s getting tiring making excuses for their greed.

It’s truly dreadful on the iPad due to it being almost impossible to control and wildly highlights and deletes text. I find it unusable on iPad which is why I’ve been waiting for proper 3DTouch for years.
Uh, what? I don't have that problem at all.

iPad Air 2 with iOS 12 here.

Remember, long press will not work if you have 3D Touch turned on, so if you're trying to test with 3D Touch turned on, you're not testing long press.

It would appear likely they've already passed on the savings with the Xr. The Xr and Max show the same amount of info on-screen, but the Max costs 56% more for the mid-storage-tier model.

It kinda is when the developers are the ones responsible for making it happen.

It's no good because people don't like it is different from it's no good because developers aren't implementing it well, or at all.

The savings with XR has to do with the LCD screen, aluminum enclosure and the single camera lens. XS models cost more because of the OLED, stainless steel enclosure and dual camera lens.
