I don't want to be mean but what is so special about this store. There are hundreds of Apple Stores in the US. Even Kansas City has one. Yet there are whole European Countries which barely have ANY Stores (France, Germany).
Am I the only one who thinks Apple plans/ opens it's stores a little uneavenly spread out?

Sorry for my rant
Doc

I don't think the NYCity stores ever close and they are always active. I do feel sorry for the states/cities that have no representation but they put the stores in places where they can pay for themselves. In Georgia, I have two Apple stores to go to, one near work (North Point Mall, Alparetta) and one near my home (Mall of Georgia, Buford) and they are consistantly more busy than any of the other stores in the Malls when I visit them.

When I went to visit the Manhatten store, while visiting family, it was a madhouse. :D

used to be a victorias secret:cool:

The VS that used to be there was a new build (opened in 1999 I think). They knocked down that building to build the Apple Store. The VS was in really bad shape inside when it closed.

It's beautiful. Now can we please have a store in Brooklyn where all the cool kids live?

That would be great.

Seems a bit like overkill to have two stores 12 blocks apart.

the site is there. U had extra characters on the end.

As for brooklyn, having lived there, I think that an apple store would only encourage the hipsters to stay, instead of moving back to their parents basements. Anyway, have u noticed how close starbucks are in NYC? It's not a matter of blocks, it's a matter of population density and the $$$ that comes with it. A couple of highrises on 2 blocks on the UWS has more people than all of Williamsburg I'm sure, so it's wiser to go where their efforts can be the most fruitful.

I'm going to be in NYC tomorrow, so of course they'll open the new store next weekend. :D

I seem to remember the same thing happened when the 5th Ave store opened.

New store in the center line of cameras of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade? Talk about great advertising there.

The parade actually is further east. The parade goes down CPW to Columbus Circle. This store is a long block and short block further over. No TV cameras but plenty of crowds if they are open.

They are really pushing these stores pretty hardcore style aint they? 1 in NYC, 1 in Paris, another in montpellier maybe.. theres 2 BIIIIGG ones in london (west-side).. i dont tend to venture east, but i imagine theres plans for that as well.. hmmm. Wouldnt be surprised at all really if they posted more Y-O-Y profits this quarter when it finishes :)

And they always look immaculately well finished and rounded off stores!

Milli Vanilli

So are they going to be asked to perform so that Apple can draw a huge crowd like Microsoft store grand openings? :p

Would have been cool if it opened up a little sooner in time for the Yankees Championship Parade. Yankees+ "The Big Apple"+ Apple Inc.= match made in advertising heaven.

Good move!

I heard about this one a while ago but the red curtain is just over the top!

While not many talked about it due to the media types concentration in NYC but that town has been hit very hard by real estate issues. Some of the highest end building and condos are asking for a fifth of the rent just three years ago.

I'm sure Apple signed a nice long lease on the building and would not be surprised of the didn't pay a cent for the building for the first year. Also, with so much construction out of work, they could pick an choose from NYC's best skilled works to do that place right. Love to have been a fly on the wall with Apple management and the local unions getting this place together.

Overall, looks great. Just in time for the Thanksgiving day and Chirstmas parade. Good job!

12 blocks apart but serviced by completely different subway lines. Have you ever tried to get from the Upper West to 59th and 5th? Tremendous pain the butt. This basically helps complete their coverage of the poshest Manhattan shopping districts.

Between the price of the real estate and the architectural design and building costs, that store must cost a fortune!

Quite the bold move for a company to be that extravagant in the current economical climate.

Well, Apple does have quite a bit of change in the bank, so Apple can afford it.

Hi,

I would argue this is the best time for Apple to expand its stores given lower material costs, labour costs, and land values. A good time to be greedy.

s.

I agree. Plus, recessions/depressions can be seen a good time to invest in stuff like this so that when the economy gets better (if it does), Apple will be ready. Companies who don't do this will then have to play catch up.

Copy that Microsoft!

Oh, please. You'd be rapping Microsoft on the knuckles hard if they did such over the top theatrics.

Also, nice of Apple to copy the Gateway model of selling their computers in stand alone retail stores. Ah, just another hypocrisy. ;):p:D
(just keeping you fanboys humble)

Like Gateway came up with the idea? No one had been selling computers in stores before them?

And even if they had the idea, based on the success that Gateway had, it would be the obvious thing for Apple to follow suit, right?

:p

Where would you put it? Brooklyn's always seemed like a big question mark to me... williamsburg? ft. greene? brooklyn heights?

bedstuy???????? ;)

Well I know it's not the best foot-traffic area, but somewhere near Atlantic Center would be a great place for one. BAM is there, as is Pratt and LIU, and all the trains and the LIRR converge there. Other than that I could see one in Billyburg or Dumbo.

I would say Park Slope out of selfishness, but I can't see it happening. Doesn't fit the neighborhood.

Ah true. I forgot the BDFV splits at Rockefeller without a way straight across.

how many apple stores do we need in manhattan?? good googly, put one in brooklyn or queens!

If you do a Google street view, pan up 45 degrees first than pan around. They will be fully surrounded by prospective customers within 2 block walking distance, not to mention the "travelers".

If you get hungry, try:

Rocketman

I go to Old John's twice a week - they're gonna LOVE the added business!

2 blocks from Lincoln Center, right at home! Looking forward to the 14th!

u silly

Umm hello. Where have you been?
"Apple makes biggest quarter ever"

"Apple outperforms Wall St numbers"

"iPhone taking over the world"

You're thinking of Micro$oft

The parade is downtown, the store is on the other side of town.

Rumor had it they were looking at Wall St., but I don't think they could actually rip anything down and build a nice glass building there.

Brooklyn needs one; near BAM/LIRR would be nice, Brooklyn Heights even better.

I believe this type of design and care and money that we can expect to see Microsoft to spend and create with their stores.

BBBWWWWWWhhhhhhaaaaaahaaaaaahaaaaaaa!

:D

I know where it is but I'm just saying it would have been nice to see some kind of promotional effort like special tees or some advertising blitz.

As for other complaining about another Manhattan spot, the 5th Ave. store is wildly busy. They needed another store to take the burden off. They keep building stores in the city because those stores make more per square foot than any store in the country. It helps open up other Apple stores in other areas that people want that do not make nearly as much money.

It would be nice to see a store in Brooklyn though.
