I don't want to be mean but what is so special about this store. There are hundreds of Apple Stores in the US. Even Kansas City has one. Yet there are whole European Countries which barely have ANY Stores (France, Germany).
Am I the only one who thinks Apple plans/ opens it's stores a little uneavenly spread out?

Sorry for my rant
Doc

You're right, it is pretty unevenly spread out. But look at all the factors: population & wealth distribution, local/state/national laws, etc. You wouldn't want to put an equal amount of stores in every state because North Dakota has quite a bit fewer people than California, say. Plus, add in all the legal hurdles you have to put in just to put in a store. I'm no expert in the law, especially of countries outside the US, so I don't know what Apple has to do to open a store in Germany or something.

Seems a bit like overkill to have two stores 12 blocks apart.

As someone who lives on the upper west side, and works next door to the huge apple store on the east side - those "12 blocks apart" are really "big blocks." They are nearly completely on opposite sides of the city. I also feel like they are going to have very different constituencies. There are a lot more tourists who shop over here (where there are all the fancy designer stores, etc.) while the west side store will be used more by the local population who need to go visit the genius bar.

That looks like the Lourve in France. Cool looking though. I wonder if the Grand Opening will have a broadway chorus line and the rockets or something?

Damn! I wish was rich and could just take a weekend trip up to NYC and drop a few thousand at that store, before catching a show. *sigh*

I don't see what's so exciting either. Unless you are nearby and going to use it the store will be just like any other store. Black and glass outside, maple wood and Genius bar inside.

The only interesting thing about this one is the curtain which is a great advertising device. Architecturally when they take it off it will as exciting as a building that looks like a typical Apple Store.

And really, once you've seen an Apple Store in person there is no need to go in again. Mac software and accessories are all cheaper on line.

Oh yeah, something big is definitely on the way with the opening of so many new stores . . Tablet!! NY is littered with Apple stores now lol. Gotta check this one out!

If you're interested, you can look up the intersection of 67th and Broadway in Google Earth, and then take a look at the "street view." The photos (dated last year) show the building under construction.

Oh man I so badly wish I could move to NYC. I am afraid I wouldn't be able to afford the rent. I would need a big paycheck to swing it, but man what a great city. How is the job market in Manhattan?

Dont' be dissing my city of Kansas City. And for the correction, in the Kansas City Metropolitan area we have TWO stores. Since the metro area spans both sides of the Missouri/Kansas border, I count the one in Leawood Kansas as well as the one on the Plaza in Kansas City, MO.

The stores are about 5 - 10 miles apart.

Ahh I love NYC so much, can't wait to move there from Long Island.

Considering NYC is "The Big Apple" it's only right that Apple Inc. provide us with excellence!

once you've been in an Apple store, you've practically seen them all (the whole 'been there, done that attitude')

The parade does not go down broadway. It goes down Central Park West.

I'll try to take photos of the place as soon as that fake curtain comes down. I live just up the street.

You can't really "take a sneak peak" inside can you? Sad.

We can pool our money! How is next weekend for you?

Sort of. I think that a store's layout is part of the experience. The store near my uni and back home are both mall based rectangles. The one in Miami (aventura mall) is 4 times the size and circle like with tons more accessories and software testing areas. I really want to visit a two story store.

how many apple stores do we need in manhattan?? good googly, put one in brooklyn or queens!

Brooklyn and Queens will never get a stand alone Apple Store. I am quite surprised they haven't opened in Queens Center mall yet, it's the highest dollars per square foot sales mall in the country. Kings Plaza is also a candidate for an Apple Store.

The one in Ginza (Tokyo) is either 4 or 5 floors--can't remember--and two elevators. Very cool. One of the floors is a theatre where they showed training presentations, etc. I was there a couple years ago and was quite impressed at how many people you could cram into that much Apple Store.

Good, now I can go check if they will fix the crack on my macbook without having to go all the way downtown. As a 1st time mac owner, I'm very disappointed in the build quality. The battery sticks out, and presses against the track pad, so much pressure that if you just grace any area around the track pad, it registers a click. It makes it impossible for me to type. Very disappointed and I refuse to spend so much money on another computer, especially when I thought it was going to be superior build quality.

Not great. There's been a trickle-down effect from the financial industry failures that's sort of snowballed. Of course, being New York, there's always *someone* hiring, but competition is ridiculously fierce.

On the plus side, rents have dropped significantly in some parts of Manhattan, and landlords in other areas are more open to negotiation and are offering sweeter deals than in the past.

It's about time they put a store in a more convenient location (no, 5th Ave. and downtown are not convenient!).
