Exactly well said. I’m sure WhatsApp messages and such are already accessible. What's the alternative?
I'm presuming the UK govt hasn't asked Google/Android for this because they already have it.

You’re somewhat right. Over here in the USA the media is merely the mouthpiece of any current administration and wouldn’t make noise about things like this.Well, at least we don't live in the USA where the billionaires and kid-hackers to everyone single persons social security and personal info to do with as they will. I suppose ppl that are ok with that are the same ppl that would be complaining of that, due to the colour of the different parties in charge.
What do you want to say, that you can’t, and why do you think you should be entitled to do so without reproach?I’m in the USA so I can pretty much say anything I want with the exception of course on private webpages like this. All that cool stuff that gets Germans in Brits a visit from police is a non-issue for me.
They’re anything but the Labour Party. They’re more conservative than the Tories. Similar to the Dems in the USA all have become cross dressers party wise.Well done to all those that voted Labour, this is on you.
Authoritarian anti free speech communism. Control your speech, control your thoughts, control everything you do. Soon they will no longer have elections. I think Western Europe forgot what the Soviet Union was like.Is there any rational explanation why the UK government is demanding the change?
Maybe - yeah! But really that was badly worded. I really mean that the front door is generally locked when that type of thing is happening, thought not always 😜 my point was does the person who I responded to, who seems to think that they have nothing to hide, mind if anyone watches them at any point in time, which is what forbidding e2ee could enable. You lock the front door ? Just who are you expecting to barge in? A camera crew?
Late to this thread so forgive me if answered already…..
So has Apple given ‘back door’ access to the UK government to UK users iCloud data….?
Or do enforcement agencies have to apply for access to particular accounts?
I have never activated ADP.
I have nothing at all to hide by the way, I barely use iCloud features.
It is more of a case of if access is available, unsavoury types WILL find a way in.
I think Apple will just do what they did for government requests prior to ADP being an option and that will appease the UK government. Apple offered to decrypt the San Bernardino’s shooters iCloud but insisted they could not decrypt the local device and I think Apple ultimately could not decrypt the iCloud back up after the government reset the iCloud password. Not sure how they resolved this, but I don’t remember seeing a mention of a backdoor. So passwords/contacts etc. stored on iCloud?
They have opened Pandora's box. The unknowing strike again.
If you say something against my religion that’s offensive to me. Should you be allowed to say that? I could be offended by some of your political views. You’re not going to be the one deciding what is offensive all the time.
Some would do the opposite. When I shag the missus I lock the front door. Don’t you?
So this is no different (for me) for the past 20+ years then, if I have never used ADP.There are no back doors. The UK gov has to apply for a court order to gain access to your unencrypted data, but these are almost always approved 99.99% of the time. In a few weeks, all iCloud data stored for UK customers will be accessible to authorities via court order.
So this is no different (for me) for the past 20+ years then, if I have never used ADP.
Until the rules change and then it’s too late. Not that I have anything to hide
The right thing for Apple to do would be to switch off iCloud in the UK or stand firm and keep Advanced Data Protection. This is the correct move
I don’t know where you’re from, but I can almost guarantee that you’re ‘allowing’ your government do equally bad things. Let’s not fool ourselves into thinking any other government wouldn’t want the very same thing. This is WILD! Absolutely unbelievable! UK residents why do you allow your government to do this? Wow....
We are under a dictatorship, they got in on lies. It is terrible here, can’t see how they can be removed. This is WILD! Absolutely unbelievable! UK residents why do you allow your government to do this? Wow....
And there was me thinking it was a democratically elected government. We are under a dictatorship, they got in on lies. It is terrible here, can’t see how they can be removed.
"Anything could be offensive."That’s pretty scary. The first paragraph is funny because you said there’s no restriction unless it’s offensive then it’s restricted. Anything could be offensive. If you mentioned on social media that Jesus isn’t the real God that would be extremely offensive to me! In that example, you should not be allowed to say that.
How would you feel if you were arrested for making a post online saying God wasn’t real even if you believed that was true?
I’m just trying to show you how something you might think is OK could be extremely offensive to another person. I don’t know if you do or don’t believe in whatever God.
Apple is amoral to things like this. The right thing for Apple to do would be to switch off iCloud in the UK or stand firm and keep Advanced Data Protection.
They've already strong armed apple into removing protection for uk customers. Not bad for a country that isn't an empire.
Essentially Apple are forced to comply with this request, or withdraw entirely from the uk market. They have done a halfway house measure by only removing ADP which i am worried means that are compliant for the rest of the world.
