Oh yeah? Then why have they discontinued the X model, the only iteration to be canned after 1 cycle, other than the 5C, to make way for a “cheaper” X model?

The expectation is that a cheaper model will sell better, causing people to want to upgrade more, since they didn’t see that with the X.

The realization will come when that model also falls short of expectations. Only then will they begin to see that people are holding off on upgrading because they don’t want to lose their headphone jack, and are considering alternative companies. You will see.

Their earnings were high only because of the price of the device. By all other accounts the X release was lackluster, no matter how Tim tries to spin it by saying things like “it’s been the best-selling smartphone each quarter” and yadda yadda whatever other spin on statistics he gave it.

The user upgrade cycles weren’t there. NEW Apple users bought the X, but not in a percentile range of upgraders that they would have liked to see.

Apple thinks it’s because of price (see: plans to produce cheaper X knockoff). I say it’s because of the headphone jack.

They will get further data suggesting that point once they release the SE2 without a headphone jack and it sells nowhere near as well as the original iteration. Apple will return to a headphone jack within 2-3 years.

Funny, but as you already know, a home button or bezels in no way effect true convenience of use or involve dongles and extra money spent. Apple needs to branch out into developing nations, eventually they will saturate other markets. They want to hit India and others. The most populated country on earth. Headphone jack is still an industry standard and it’s going to ultimately effect market share. Biggest mistake Apple has made of the past 5 years, easily, IMO.
Aside from claims that are not based on anything than just conjecture, there's nothing that ties anything to the headphone jack, especially since it's already been gone since iPhone 7. Interesting theories (those that aren't based on made up things), but at best that's all they are, with everything else having much more simpler and realistic explanations that have nothing to do with the headphone jack. (And again, this is coming from someone that wishes they never removed it.)

Surprised people still use wired headphones, I don't think I have since my iPhone 5.
Probably like there are those who are surprised that people still post things online on forums when they haven't done it since BBS days from decades ago.

Why are you surprised? Lots of people like me with quality headphones use them in headphone amps, portable players like my Fiio X3 etc. In fact, if Bluetooth is the future and in particular Apple Airpods, (which by all accounts do not fall out even with the most vigorous of activities) why do on-stage performers not use Airpods or other Bluetooth earphones as their IEMs ?

Because what you described, I would imagine, is a very small subset of users. Wireless is just so abundant today for varying price points that I don't see the point myself. I moved on long ago. It's just surprising that many on here haven't. I am dealing with a very particular crowd though.

I don't know where this thread is going. but soon all Android flagship will remove headphone jack.
so what's the point of this thread when we all know android will copy Apple?

First world problems.. I was one of those that hated the removal of the headphone jack and held onto my iPhone 6 as long as possible. When I got my 8, I got the BeatsX , got the bluetooth cable for my Shure SE535 and never looked back. Both work well and the sound is decent enough from my iPhone 8 & X. No more cord entanglement during my commutes and at the gym. Bonus!

I also own IEM's in the >$1000 price range and using them with an iPhone is literally a waste unless connecting to an external DAC. For serious listening, I use the better IEMs with an AK300 dedicated music player.
Instead of being resistant to technology change, for perceived better or worse, work a solution for you. There are always options.

Yeah wireless is still a small market at this point but once we have self charging and better sound quality then the gap will close considerably. It’ll be a while before the music and film industry moves to wireless though due to the need for the best sound quality possible. I still see way more wired users at this point though and tech enthusiasts are generally a small crowd in the grand scheme.

I still see tons of people using wired headphones, if not most. I don't know why you think it's such a small subset of people.

I have a nice set of wireless headphones but use wired quite often (or the wireless pair wired). I also use the 3.5mm stereo connector for various other purposes.

I could say the same that I can't imagine why people would use headphones without noise cancelling at this point (such as AirPods). ;)

It's just what I see in my area/demographic. Everyone has wireless headphones. I'd love noise cancelling, but I am happy with my Airpods for now for gym use. Have a pair of noise cancelling wireless headphones for the plane.

Its Difficult to say what android will do or Samsung in general. But even if the 3.5 mm Jack Is still retained for future smart phones other than the iPhone, Bluetooth is still growing exponentially all the time, with improve sound quality and more convenient features with a battery life improving. The AirPods are a great example of this.

The problem with AirPods is the fact they cost £159. When you can get Bluetooth headphones that are equally good in quality at less than half the price, it’s no wonder they are not high on every iPhone users shopping list. Then again this is why the third party market is doing so well and always has supplying alternatives. I couldn’t trust myself with AirPods as I go through headphones like fun.

You mean copy LeEco and Motorola who were ahead of Apple in releasing phones without a headphone socket.

While they were first to market I have a feeling their decision was fuel by the rumors that lead the iPhone 7 that were otherwise facts at the time. I could be wrong but we saw a lot of Chinese knockoffs do it too.

Maybe coincidence but I doubt Apple was copying anyone with there decision to remove the headphone jack just because even they knew it wasn’t going to be a popular decision.

It’s like their push to USB C with Macs. The refreshed the MacBook to get all the nonsense out of the way now it’s commonplace with windows laptops (although they also cram in more ports).

I got a set of AirPods for a 100 and while there are better sounding Bluetooth headsets that are cheaper the AirPods offer a lot more.

Charging case charges them in minutes. They are on find my iPhone to help you find them. By measuring jaw vibration, beam forming, mic for noise cancellation, etc they are by far the best set of Bluetooth headphones for calls that I ever used (at there size). Effortlessly sync with the iPhone. Since they are on my iCloud I can just switch to them via AirPlay AppleTV, Macs, ipad, Apple Watch, etc in a second.

After using them I can easily justify their price tag and would recommend them. Definitely not just for music though. I switched from Bose to Beats Studio 3 due to the features of Apples W1 chip. Overall I prefer them to the Bose QC35.

I agree, i sold my Bose QC3511 as wasn't using them, the AirPods are better on phone calls too and you can just use 1 which i do a lot.

That’s exactly what I do. I switch between them as the battery dies in one. It’s impressive the battery life of them based on size but admittedly a little tedious for my line of work where I need to walk back to my work vehicle to switch them.
