I wonder how isophia's dual-head setup with the 5770 is working. That's the only post we have here confirming dual-head as working on the 1,1 with the "common" boot rom. (I think.)

Ordered a 5770 yesterday, and it came today! Thats with the free shipping, awesome. Works great in my 1,1. Only one monitor to test it with right now though, other one should be here tomorrow (then I have to wait for the cable for it anyway)

Sweet! Let us know! :)

Yes please do let us know when you hook up the 2nd monitor. Also, what boot rom are you using? MP11.005C.B08 is the common one.

MP11.005C.B08

Monitor should be here tomorrow, the only unknown is the cable for it.

I just installed an apple 5770 in a MP with MP11.005C.B08. I have an ACD 23" connected with a Apple single link mdp to DVI adaptor and samsung monitor connected to the 5770 dvi out. Everything seems to work fine.

For whatever reason, they didnt drop off the monitor today. Got all the cables I need though. So tomorrow hopefully :)

24 inch connected to DVI, new 23 inch connected via mini DP to DP wire, works perfectly on my 1,1.

Great to hear!

Quick question.. which "cable" specifically are you using? apple, dual link? another?

And the 23" is an apple ACD? and the 24" is a dell?

Just got 5770, installed it in my 1,1 MP and it works great!
Connected to 24" monitor using single DVI.

Previously I had X1900 graphic card but 5770 surely OVERPOWERS X1900!!!

I was so excited to see that there is no lag playing COD 4 :D

Now I am going to test Starcraft 2!

I am using a Mini DP to DP from Circuit Assembly. Saw it recommended somewhere.

The 23 inch is a new Dell, which uses my Mini Display Port to DP cable to connect to the 5770. The 24 is an old dell, connected via DVI to the 5770.

Oh damn! It's such a *RELIEF* to know these cards work in the 1,1 Mac Pros. Now I have a replacement option if my 3870 dies. (My 3870 was almost impossible to find when I got it earlier this year; I was lucky a forum member here was able to sell me his!)

I almost feel like ordering a 5770 anyway but can't really afford it right now. I'll probably buy one before the next Mac Pro rev.

Lots of kudos to ATI for keeping the EFI BIOS on these cards compatible going back to the 1,1! I think if it were up to Apple they wouldn't work, but the geeks at ATI are thinking about us. <3

sorry to repeat an old question but it would be really useful to know the performance improvement in Windows BootCamp of the 5770 over the 8000GT.

Another old question that still hasn't been resolved: will the 5870 work in the 1,1 mac pro and if so does it perform to full or near full capacity under windows Bootcamp? If there is a bias issue, is this something that can be resolved?

Not that you guys really need another person to say it works but mine should arrive on Tuesday so I can also report back and confirm it works. I just hope its as quiet as my 1900XT with a TMG AT1 fitted (essentially silent)?

I don't do much gaming (if any) but do design and development work, and thinking about getting a couple of the 27" LED screens.

I have a 1,1 with 2 E5340s, 2 X25Ms (RAID 0) and 16GB RAM.

Has anyone installed an Apple 5770 video upgrade kit in a 2006 Mac Pro 1.1 and connected a single Apple 27" LED Display using the MiniDisplay Port? If so have any problems been encountered?

On the 8800gt vs 5770, the 5770 is quite a bit more powerful. I can keep the resolution at 1920x1080 much more often with high settings on most games.

I, for one, was surprised to see my 1,1 MP running Starcraft 2 at highest setting at 1920x1080...!!!

So I got the card today and it works perfectly. I only have a 30" connected currently. Luckily it's as silent as the 1900XT (with TMG AT1) I removed. Awesome so far. Quite happy I can run a 27" LED monitor now.

The Apple Stores in the Asia-Pacific have changed the 5770 shipping time from 24 hours to 5-7 business days. Supply not meeting demand?

I've just ordered one (from the UK - should arrive soon) so will hopefully have some stats for you on it's performance over the 8800GT in Windows games (in case anyone else is interested).

Next question, has anyone else tied up two of these naughty boys (saving 'bad boys' for the 5870!) in cross fire yet on a 1,1 mac pro? If not, anyone live in South London with one and fancy a really sad session trying it out?

I would love to know. I'm losing hope on the 5870 anyways....

Audio over MDP-HDMI?

So...

¿has anybody tried the Audio over MDP>HDMI with either 5770/5870 cards in older MPs?

... let us know if/how it works,

cheers!

A bit of an update: I realized yesterday I was getting some noise on black backgrounds using dvi port like I used to when using the 30 on a MacBook pro with the mini dp to dual link adapter. I decided to try said adapter with this card and now the noise has gone. Weird. I'll keep you posted.
