It's 2-4 weeks before shipping. The delivery date is in the hands of the shipper.

2-4 weeks is only an estimate. When they generate their initial receipt, they seem to take the maximum of that time frame - 4 weeks. However many (including myself) are reporting their item has shipped well inside that maximum time frame.

Waow... pretty fast or just cautious on the date/info when replying orders. I got an email today saying my card has shipped and the ETA is this monday - september 20th.

Or perhaps the delivery guy will drive it round for the next three weeks, like it happen with the printer I ordered two month ago...

I received the 5770 on Tuesday, but only got to install it today. It is working beautifully in my 2008 quad. It is also working fine in bootcamp. I downloaded the drivers from the ATI site for windows XP before pulling the stock 2600. I didn't know if I needed to do that, but it was an easy install. When I booted into XP it prompted me to load ".net framework 2.0" from Microsoft. It need that to run part of the ATI Catalyst.

early 2008 and 5770

Hi

I ordered a 5770 and it arrived yesterday in Australia/Melbourne.

I installed it and works fine with a single display.

I tried to to run the old readon ati card together with the 5770, and that does not really work, the mac boost, shows me the loading screen, but just in when the desktop should show up it freezes on both screen.

So, so far I can only run a single screen with the 5770, as won't wrok with the second graphics card.

Also, I have trouble under bootcamp and windows. I can't find any apple bootcamp drivers for the windows 7 and the 5770.
The catalyst drivers do not install without error. though it seems to be able to use the driver, even with an aborting installation.
But I can get the driver to use the full screen. I have 2 asus 27" 1080p displays, for those I need to the driver to use 59 herz instead of 60, else just around a 22" window in the center. This was pssible with old ati card, but I canget it done with the 5770.

Has anybody managed to run multiple displays with this card and an early 2008 macbook pro .. ?

Thanks for all the testing isophia, I have an almost identical setup, I have MP 1,1 and a 8800GT currently, and have to drive a dell 24", and a dell 27".. the 27" has a Display port, but not MDP, and i've heard about issues on dells site concerning its DP

Silly questions but have you tried, having both the 8800 and the 5770 in there, and using a DVI from each?

Have you tried both MDP's.. or silly as it sounds making sure the MDP cable is in all the way to the card ( i read about ppl not realizing the connector goes in further)..

Have you tried, reconnecting the MDP cable? I believe that is what has worked for ppl that had issues with the monitors not coming back on after sleeping.

With all the issues, ppl are having MP 2010's included.. hopefully 10.6.5 solves things.. or ATI figures it out.

Hello mate,

Yeah to be honest im running out of ideas: one is plugged in by DVI the other by the DVI to Displayport adapter - if i unplug one then the other will work, but both screens wont work - the monitor just slips into sleep (but knows there is a signal there). Ive tried pulling out cables and re-attaching them, swapping them round, swapping them back round, doing a little dance, praying to the GPU gods, and pretty much short of sacrificing my neighbour i'm all outta ideas!! ;)

I have an 1900 card but i don't have room to have it in the mac as well as the 5770 so i can't easily try that sorry - and to be honest for me thats not a good option, i need use of all the other slots.

Also, I have trouble under bootcamp and windows. I can't find any apple bootcamp drivers for the windows 7 and the 5770.

I had no issues installing the Catalist drivers for the card mate - you don't need 'apple bootcamp' drivers - just grab the normal windows ones from ATI.

Looking in System Profiler, under PCI Cards - I see two entries for it... both in Slot-1... the first is Type 'ATY,HooLockParent' and 'Driver Installed' is 'No... the 2nd is Type 'Display' and does have a driver installed...

I have exactly the same thing mate... what it means exactly i do not know - what i'd like to do is get my hands on the latest os build and see if that fixes the issues - am crossing my fingers that 10.6.5 comes through the door sharpish and solves these problems!!!

update!!

So my last attempt has come out trumps - i've just run the updaters for 10.6 again to bring things up to date at 10.6.4 - and after installing the last batch of updates and rebooting both screens have just sprung into life - absolutly perfect!! :D

So 5770 in a 1,1 mac pro with two Dell DVI monitors connected. Very very happy! Goodluck to the rest of you :D

dual display

Hi

I just like to report that the ATI 5770 does support 2 displays on a MAC3.1 (2008) model.

I did read here and there that the mini display would not work prior to 2009.

I currently run 2x 27" asus screens: one on the dvi port, the second on the mini display port , via the mini display - dual dvi adapter.

cheers

Mac Pro 3,1 Octo 2,8 and 5770

Hey

I just installed the 5770 in my 2008 Mac Pro (3,1) Octo 2,8 with a 30" Cinema Display (DVI) in OS X 10.6 and in Windows 7 64bit through Boot Camp after installing the Catalyst 10.9 - Package Vers. 8.771-100825a-104558C-ATI)

Works perfect and pretty easy hardware installation, too.

The noiselevel is a bit lower now than with my previous card - a Radeon 2600.

The Asia-Pacific stores now show a 24 hour shipping time for the 5770. The 5870 is still unavailable. :(

Kinda tempted to order another 5770 for some CrossFire action in Windows. Has anyone got this setup going? Would be keen to hear your thoughts.

Hmmm, lots of new stuff coming in, thanks all!

Will have to clean up and reformat the first post a bit. Hopefully I can get to that this weekend.

Looking forward to further updates. I wonder if some of the 2006s (and 2008,2009s) will see the same kind of black screen and/or snow/sleep related issues with the 5770s and 5870s.

My 5770 works beautifully with my 2008 quad-core. No issues.

It's actually so quiet I almost wonder if the fan doesn't work. I keep meaning to give it a real work-out in some bootcamp windows gaming to find out.

A little bit tricky to get it to fit thoughL the directions say something about a plastic shroud moving back, but on my 2008 that particular plastic shroud doesn't move. It required some careful angling/fitting to get the card into place - perhaps that's why it isn't marked as available for earlier models?

Crap! Didn't get a chance to update the first post. Hopefully soon. It's getting a bit messy with too much info.

Awesome! I have a 2008 model myself. Still waiting for the 5870.

IIRC the 2009 and 2010 models have a moveable fan assembly, as well as a moveable retention bar that holds the PCIe cards in place. The 2006-2008 ones have a cheap plastic lock molded into the PCIe slot connector that breaks off easily. I suppose the fan assembly in the 2006-2008 models could be temporarily removed to fit the card into place, as an alternative to angling it in.

I'm waiting on the 5870 also. I thought my 8800 was crapping out from driving my 2 large screens (my 2nd monitor is now U2711, instead of a U2005 but apparently its is an apple driver mess up in 10.6.4.

I'm also waiting to see Barefeats test the MP11.005C.B08 boot room with these 5770 and 5870 and two monitors.

I'm in the same boat. If it works, it'll probably keep the 1,1 we have in the office useable for another couple of years. It's mostly fine, but the 3870 (which worked wonderfully for a year) is struggling now that we work in 1080 almost exclusively. Still $270 (Canadian Price) vs. a second 2010 Mac Pro, well...

5770 in a MacPro4,1 (Early 2009)

DVI direct: Apple bootscreen... then nothing.
MDP -> DVI: Nothing. (DYNEX adapter)
MDP -> VGA: Video blurred and shaky. (Apple adapter)

What else have I tried?
Bootcamp to Windows 7: Works just fine on all ports. So it's not the card.

Reinstalled Snow Leopard Graphics Update, no change.

Viewsonic 22" Widescreen LCD.

What am I doing wrong?

Has anyone replaced a 8800GT with the 5770 for windows bootcamp gaming and have any comparison stats - is it worth it?

I have a former colleague in the UK that did just that with his 2006 1,1 Mac Pro.

Though he didn't go into specifics, he said that StarCraft II is "quicker" under OS X, and said "Windows works well".

I know it's not much to go on, but I thought I'd chime in anyway. :)

I have no stats, as it was a forced upgrade when the 8800 GT died.

It certainly feels sharper. What makes it "worth it" to me though is how much quieter the 5770 is.

are there any comparisons between the x1900 and the 5770?

in terms of performance, power draw, heat and noise

is it a worthwhile upgrade?

i did flash a 4870 which worked well until it died :( and don't want the hassle of flashing a PC card again

i'm using a 2006 MP1,1 if it makes a difference :)

Every bit of evidence, anecdotal or otherwise, helps! Do you know if he's running a dual-head setup?

He's only using 1 monitor, connected to DVI I believe.

Ya thats the rub. The DVI always works.. its the MDP ports I'll need to use to drive a 2nd large monitor that keeps me waiting, though I really would prefer a 5870.. the idea of 2 x 5770's using 1 DVI from both has crossed my mind.

I thnk that is possible in a MP 1,1. it would come in at like 230 w i think and the power supply in the MP's are rated for 300w.

I'm hoping Barefeats is still gonna do that test with the 5770, and 5870 with MP11.005C.B08 boot rom.
