Forgive me if this has already been posted and I missed it, but is there anyone who has confirmed that the 5770 card will work in a Mac Pro 1,1 with the MP11.005D.B00 firmware? According to the first post it's still yet to be tested.

I ordered a 5770 last night. Says it will ship 9/27, still two weeks out.
I ordered a 5770 from Apple... they are listing a delivery date of 10/6
I ordered the 5770 September 7th, and Apple gave me a shipping date at the time of October 6th and a delivery date on or before October 11th...
This looks more like 5 weeks to me...
So what's up with the 2-4 weeks tag..?
There's some confusion about what I said earlier about powering this card. Let me clarify:
-First: The card available from the Apple Store requires one 6 and one 8 pin PCIE port. Companies like VisionTek and Sapphire (from whom I got my 5870) make HD 5870s with two 6 pin PCIE ports.
-Second: Apple's built-in PCIE power slots are proprietary (about a millimeter smaller than industry standard). Additionally, the 2008 motherboard has two proprietary 6-pin PCIE jacks accessible without pulling out the front fan assembly. Go have a look right now -- that's the way it is.
So, to clarify: this specific card won't do it for you. Go get one that you can verify uses two 6-pin ports and not a 6- and 8-pin port. I can confirm a Sapphire HD5870 working very smoothly in my Snow Leopard / Win7 system with a second 6-pin proprietary PCIE cable purchased third party.

Don't worry about that. My 4890 'requires' an 8-pin PCIe port and I had no issues using it with a 6-pin port."The card available from the Apple Store requires one 6 and one 8 pin PCIE port."
and also,
"Additionally, the 2008 motherboard has two proprietary 6-pin PCIE jacks accessible without pulling out the front fan assembly.".
Thanks in advance.

So your using a 8-pin to 6-pin convert cable or something?
I wonder how barefeat connected the official HD5870 to the 2008 Mac Pro.
Could someone who actually owns a 2010 Mac Pro and an official HD5870 confirm the following?
I've seen this on the Apple Store US review for the HD5870.
This person says that the official HD5870 is not compatible with Mac Pro2008.
To note, I know that barefeat confirmed it works,
but are these facts written in this review true?
Like the part where he/she says,
"The card available from the Apple Store requires one 6 and one 8 pin PCIE port."

"Additionally, the 2008 motherboard has two proprietary 6-pin PCIE jacks accessible without pulling out the front fan assembly.".

He said it has 2 six-pin connectors.
The HD5870 has two six pin connectors, and the 2010 Mac Pros that ship with it are connected to the card using two six pin connectors.
So the review is totally bunk.
Thank you to you too !
Now I can get ready to order the official HD5870 for my 2008 Mac Pro!
Hope it starts shipping soon.
I have a macpro1,1 with MP11.005C.B08 firmware - i'm seriously looking at getting a 5770 and would be hugely grateful if someone can confirm it will work before i folk out the cash!!
Nope, just a standard 6-pin cable. So your using a 8-pin to 6-pin convert cable or something?

Just curious. Has anyone outside the US had their 5770 ship yet?
