I see that there is now an ability to open/save as MS file formats?

Anyone who has downloaded the trial, is it reliable saving? Does it format things correctly?

I saved one of the new Pages Templates (High School Newsletter) as a Word document and while it is not exact when opened in Word, it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The bulk of the formatting/layout remained constant with a few fills and gradients lost.

Bugs gone?

Heres to hoping that there are more bug fixes than enhancement (shouldn't be too hard since the enhancement list seems pretty short [especially if you don't count templates as enhancements] and the bug list was pretty long).

As an example does inserting Date and Time in Numbers actually insert the current time or does it still insert midnight?

Could someone tell me if the new Numbers is able to do XY Scatterplots? That was a glaring omission in the old version.

Numbers iWork '08 could do scatterplots.

I just downloaded and installed the iWork '09 trial. It fixes a showstopper bug for me from Numbers in iWork '08.

Numbers now can put dates on the X axis in a scatterplot!!!!!

That's all I've played with so far.

Is this what you were hoping to see?

Error bars now supported in Numbers. I remember last year a huge thread was made on this topic. Someone blasted Numbers for not having this feature.

Maybe haters will like it now.

The addition of Endnote/MathType support is potentially huge --- writing grants (with tons of embedded figures) is sheer torment using Word, the *only* thing that kept me from going to Pages was Endnote.

Quickest way to make a research scientist swear is to ask about writing grants with Word -- try it!

I'm pretty thrilled.

I was wondering about these coupons that I got when I bought iWork '08? Can these be used to get a discount on iWork '09 or to get it for free or are these used for something else. I believe I got 4 of them or something in the box.

I totally agree with this. Although I'd also add to it working with Endnote itself was worth many a drink or two. Now that I have Pages+Bookends+Papers, those days are over :)

Take the coupons to an Apple Store and you can exchange them for the latest version.

The continued lack of scaling by %, just like MSOffice can, is still a dealbreaker. I work in the chemistry field and I must be able to scale my drawings by a % factor. Sitting here with a calculator to multiple the pixels or inches by 0.75 is stupid.

It is, but you can always type them in to Spotlight instead of a calculator if you have leopard.

Yes. I'd be surprised if they allow UPLOADING from a PC.

I'd imagine that you can, just like you can upload files from MobileMe.

So Apple is saying iWork 09 can save documents as Word format, and open Word documents. Can iWork 08 not do this? Reason being, I JUST bought iWork 08 for school and I'm realizing now that it may not be compatible with Microsoft Office. Help?

iWork '08 has good Word, Excel, and Powerpoint compatibility. Don't worry.

With 08 you can open MS Office docs, but you must export them back to the office format to save them. It's easy but time consuming.

With 09, you can just save as a .doc file instead of having to export. It's a lot easier.

Oh ok great thanks for the answer. I will do that, and is iWork '09 out already. I could seriously use the error bars and trend lines now instead of going into my brothers PC for excel.

You could try automator to just automate the process that you do. i do not know how to use automator fully but I do think it is possible to automate such a task as yours.

That is something I was hoping Apple would add to their software suite. By the way I was wondering, is iWork now online as well. Or was that just a rumour. I haven't read the latest news yet.

P.S.
Got the answer.

EDIT:
Anyone know where I can buy cheap 15" laptop sleeves?

I read somewhere on here and I can't find it now, but it said if you got a Mac within 90 days the iLife is a $10.00 USD upgrade. Is this true?

Keynote continues to make PowerPoint a third class citizen. Apple adds more to Keynote on a year to year bases than M$ adds to PowerPoint in a decade.

I'm currently downloading the iWork '09 trial, to see what the new changes have brought to Pages and Numbers. Anyway, will the '09 trial simply overwrite iWork '08, or is there a way to have both installed separately?

Debatable.

And if Apple adds to Keynote on a yearly basis, why are we just now getting iWork '09? We should be on iWork '10 already.

Separate folders in the Applications folder.
