stuck on "Configuring installation"

Trying Installing 10.5.5 is stuck on "Configuring installation".

It is stuck on a G4 Powerbook 17" 1.5 GHz. Progress bar not moving at all.

Any idea what to do?

Cheers
Greg

%150 - %200 CPU is likely spotlight doing some new indexing.
it re-scanned both my external drives for several minutes after doing the upgrade.

spotlight is one of the listed improvements.

okay... riddle me this, how does a software update mess with the physical pixel densities of your laptop?

Really. If the update had been done without his knowledge, he probably wouldn't have seen anything improved. Those pictures don't prove anything either.

Oh really? Have you read other posts where they noticed screen improvements or that their screen seems larger? watch my next post.

Yeah. My screen used to be 13", and after the update, its now 24".

I love it, there should be more updates like this. Hopefully the next one comes with a dishwasher.

I didn't let the update finish and now my computer is just a scale model of the titanic. 1: 2,000 :( The painting is inaccurate too.

OK, then maybe my macbook had a driver problem or was not configured properly and this update just hit those files?

Hey! I have documents on my dock and it changed from grid to list mode with this update? It was in grid mode since the time I took it out of the box.

OK, I think my pre-configured machine had some tweaks and settings that changed with this update? looks like I better becareful with the only tweak I ever made (I found a blog that shows you how to load your own artwork in itunes 8 - handy for grid mode and apple just does not have a catagory for the "Sermon", "Native American", "Southern Gospel" genres

Where are you getting the Combo updater?

I installed the combo update and it seems fine......
I see a 10.5.5 update on the apple site, but no combo. At 316mb, to 10.5.5 update appears to be the same as what comes from software update which on my mbp claims to be 321mb. The 10.5.4 combo is 561mb, so I don't see how the one ya'll are mentioning is a combo.

I've also learned combos are better - - an apple genius lectured me on it - - so I too prefer them, but it appears to me that none exists yet. I'll wait until I see one, but if you know where it actually is, please post a link.

Though a search on apple doesn't show a result for "10.5.5 combo" and it doesn't appear in the list of options, I would love it asap. I'm just a tad put off by the mixed reviews so I'm waiting for an updater I KNOW is a combo.

Happy Upgrading to all and to all a good.....

10.5.5 fixed a problem where, if you calibrate the color of your display in previous versions of Leopard, there would be weird, dark boxes around certain text and objects in dialog boxes. I'm not seeing them after the upgrade.

Your macbook did not ship with a driver issue, that would have been pretty publicized. Just accept that you're being a fool for the placebo effect. As for switching from grid to list, if you add too much to a stack it automatically turns to list view. I'm glad you think you have some how magically increased your screen size and that that is nice for you, but you need to take a deep breath and think about it logically. There is no way, 100% sure, unless you accidentally messed with your resolution before and this update fixed what you messed up then neat. As for your pictures you posted, I don't see in any way that they support your outlandish claims. I can't even begin to explain how many flaws there are to your logic; but I'll start with: how could you take a picture of improved image quality of what is displayed. Screenshots don't take pictures of what's on the screen they take pictures of what the computer thinks is on the screen. Your colors may be inverted and your color profile messed up, but the screenshot app will just capture what it thinks should be displayed.

I just tried dvd and quicktime playback. STILL, there are artifacts along the borders of movie and video images in BOTH players. This is beyond ridiculous. Get this fixed already APPLE!

I found it myself - it is here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads//macosx1055comboupdate.html and at 601mb I can hardly wait. Thank the here and now for broadband.

I had the exact same problem. Go to apple.com,support,download and manual get it, thats what I did and worked fine.

I am not quite sure what you are telling me. I have successfully updated to 10.5.5 but I have graphics degradation over time. Are you saying that if I get the 10.5.5 combo update and manually install it (although I am already at 10.5.5)- the graphics drivers or whatever is messed up will get fixed?

Please clarify. Thanks!

have you considered that maybe its on the movie? ive seen lots of DVDs where there are slight artifacts visible right at the top of the screen for the whole movie.

Updating 10.5.5 Success and Problems

Just updated my Mac Pro from 10.5.4 with no problems, and it has fixed a few problems I had with iTunes not working.

However, with my MacBook Pro, the installation downloaded the software, and did the restart, but now seems froze with the "Software Update" window showing about 1% done with Installing 2 times as it says it is Configuring Installation." Tried doing downloading the update again, but same problem.

Any others with this problem? Any solutions?

Cheers

Installed this morning on my MBP, no issues whatsoever. Spotlight searching is faster (the cmd-space popup search), that's about the only thing I've noticed being different so far.

Oh, apart from my 15" MBP turning into a 24" iMac :D and Vista in parallels is snappier (NOT... oh I wish).

Will upgrade my wife's iMac and the macMini tv server tonight.

So will this new update make laptop connections better and faster to WIFI/ Airport extreme base stations faster?

For a while, it would search and search and search for wifi points. instead of auto connecting to stations you have already been connected to.

So, I've been waiting for this update so that I could play Diablo 2. My Macbook still does not play it because the 256 color option is not listed under displays, however the 256 AND thousands options are available on my iMac.

The only difference is that the iMac uses onboard ATI graphics, and the Macbook uses the onboard Intel graphics. Is this a problem with my installation, or should we expect a graphics update to follow soon?
