Now my comp is stuck at the gray apple screen constantly restarting. Forcing the power off and then powering back on didn't help. Anyone with any suggestions?

If it really never powers up, then you will need to do an Archive Install, and then install the update again. Takes a little while, but it will fix the problem and leave all your settings intact.

The update went fine. I had some problem restarting (it went to my windows partition even if I clicked the leopard one), but it went alright the second time. Diablo II is not working on my Macbook Pro. I'll wait for the blizzard patch :) Oh, and there is a new feature, you can jump from macosx to windows without rebooting (it puts the computer to sleep). Go to system preferences / bootcamp for that.

Ok, the last one wasn't true :D Gotcha

Update went fine, everything cool.

BUT

Did I sleep through a previous update or something? There appear to be new items in the Apple menu....

Arrrrrrrgh! When will this pointless back-and-forth end? Somebody man up and fix this problem 'cause I need my D2 and Starcraft

EDIT: Apparently Starcraft has received a patch, but no news on D2...

10.5.5 decreased my range for my 802.11 N 2.4 ghz airport network, had to switch to 5 ghz to get a workable connection....god I wish this airport BS would stop and Apple would just leave it alone already. It's been so up and down since 10.5.0 i'm ready to go nuts!

Update failed

After trying to install 10.5.5, my Core Duo Mac Mini 1.86 is no longer booting properly. The update failed, then took a full 5 minutes to boot, if not more. After coming up to the desktop I first was prompted with a crashed Spotlight. I Ignored the error, but it continued to appear as launchd kept re-launching it repeatedly. The finder also crashed in a neverending loop. Not very satisfied with this update....

Oh well. I'll have to do a Leopard install and see if that takes care of the instability.

Anybody else having show-stopping failure?

MobileMess Calendar sync still broken for me!!!!

I have tried all of the reset sync/new user/etc trouble shooting, but I still can't sync either of my Macs with MobileMess. I just installed the 10.5.5 upgrade and it did not fix the problem. HOW BLOODY HARD is it to tell the damn sync software to totally NUKE my calendar on the Mac and download all of the data from the MobileMess cloud!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What really ticks me off is that I can even create a brand new user, with a virgin calendar (iCal never opened!) and it will not sync. How can Apple expect people to pay $$$ for this crap ...

Here is a screenshot of the new iDisk icon that had been changed recently and it looks bad, in my opinion. Is there any way to delete it?

Do you have a Linksys/D-Link/Belkin (or other UPnP-enabled router) between your computer and the internet? If not, MobileMe will not work, guaranteed.

MobileMe performs a sanity check to make sure UPnP is available, and if it does not find it (even if it isn't necessary) it won't work.

I was hoping for another test version before this went wild... Mail crashes every time I open it if Firefox is open... same with screen saver of all things... not happy so waiting for .6

This change occurred with MobileMe 1.1, not with 10.5.5.

I had no concerns about the update. There are many millions of english speaking mac users all over the world, yet the same few two or three dozen spam EVERY macforum claiming the latest update "broke" their mac.

Just kidding. I'm sure people do occasionally have issues. But look at the overall percentage. It's pretty miniscule. The only issues I've had is that updates start you all over with new caches, so things seem slower right after the first bootup but then everything returns to normal. Cheers!

Downloaded and installed, and I can happily report that this update fixed at least one problem with the nVidia drivers that was introduced in 10.5.3. 10.5.3 removed the drivers for the 256 color mode, for nVidia chipsets. This broke Diablo II as it would kick into 256 color mode to display the startup animations. 10.5.5 returned 256 color mode, but made it so it is not user selectable. Fine by me, Diablo II now launches without me having to revert to the 10.5.2 drivers first.

Huzzah!

Hope this is true! Many woots.

well, it is still a pretty recent change and I had not seen (or noticed) it before 10.5.5. I am now wondering if there is a (free) program/terminal command that could remove the gratuitous iDisk icon...

your point is??

Cause my MacBook Pro STILL spews out those random spark popping sounds and now it's adopted a new fad... hissing and buzzing when any audio come through the speakers... nice huh? So... you mind telling me why I'm one of the unlucky ones?

At first I thought my update had failed as I swear it restarted 3 times, which was starting to scare me. But I simply left the room, had a cup of tea and left it to do it's thing, and it eventually loaded fine.

Phew!

Have you tried just letting it do it's thing and seeing if it eventually fixes itself?

Such as? What new items are you seeing?

As a previous posted has mentioned, that came with the original MobileMe update, to match the new "cloud" idea.

Has anyone else been having problems with Microsoft Word 2008 repeatedly crashing in this new version?

It gave me a short beach ball but eventually loaded fine.

It looks like something from super mario bro's

10.5.5 is a dud for me, airport is still dropping like flies + throughput is slower, hissing and buzzing through built in speakers is a new one for me as well.WTF is Apple smoking these days:rolleyes:
