Any idea what Firewire chipset is most likely in this Macbook (Lucent/Agere/TI)?

The shiny trackpad is common regardless of manufacturer. I remember how pristine my replacement upper case was compared to my nearly 1 year old original.

I find the shiny trackpad either much less common or almost non-existent on Macbook Pro's...I wonder what the difference is?

Wow. FML, i just ordered one before they upgraded it :(.
Do you think i can switch it if i go to the store for a new one? It hasn't even arrived yet.

Not Entirely True...

Both still lack Intel VT support.

Apple appears to be either receiving VT enabled chips or Intel allows the manufacturers to enable VT on the chips themselves through a supported BIOS/EFI.

If it were true that the P7350 did not support VT, then the new Mac Mini 2.0 GHz model could not run 64-bit guest operating systems in apps such as VMware Fusion or VirtualBox. There is quite a debate on the subject with lots of screenshots from users who have 64-bit guests running on their Macs that supposedly contain Intel processors that lack VT support according to Intel's Processor Spec Page. Even the VMware team claims that the P7350 in the Mac Mini and Uni-MacBook 2.0 contains VT.

Also, if you speak with an Apple engineer, they claim that the P7350 is proprietary to Apple and can say no more. Whether this is horse crap or some truth to the matter is also debatable. :D

The Aussie Store price has dropped from $1649 for Base to $1599 for base...

STILL too expensive though

WTF apple!

Uk price went from £719 (this morning) for the old model to £749 for this 'new' one...
come on, seriously.. im at the end of my tether with this company, ridiculous prices full stop. apple is really becoming the new rich mans toy.. and the new microsoft..

remember the 14 day return policy... so when you get it, go to the store and exchange it! :)

Well it is my first Mac, I also bought Applecare for it. Can I keep the Applecare if i return it in the store.
Also, if i bought it online may i still return it in stores?

Woah!

Our price actually went down ($1649 to $1599) with a bigger ($100) EDU discount than the old machine. The entry level Unibody maintains the $80 EDU discount.

It's gonna be really tough now to convince or demonstrate $500 of extra value in the ostensibly slower 2.0GHz AluBook.

they should be able to transfer your AppleCare over and i'd assume that because it's all just apple (ie no resellers) you should be able to exchange even though you bought it online

All the unibody macs in BestBuy's RSS system say Deleted.

Can anyone shed light on that?

About time Apple gets a 500GB hard drive for their notebooks... as always they are months late.. oh wait, they still are late cause it is 5400RPM...

I believe Renaissance does the UK too.
Apple and other companies have little control over Renaissance's monopoly.

The Canadian dollar has improved substantially versus the US dollar since the last update, and is forecast to improve more in the next six months. Strangely, Apple has not lowered the price of the white MB accordingly.

Interesting. They're eager to jack prices up for other countries when it favours them, but less eager to reverse those increases when the situation changes.

Did the UK price remain the same? I'm not sure what the pound has done vis a vis the USD recently...

The pound is going strong against the dollar, back up to something like £1:$1.88 or $1=£0.53, the price of the macbook went up despite this.

I had a feeling they were doing this when the model took much longer to appear in the UK store than in the US one. It's really low that the UK are getting shafted, again (Mac Mini).

This time I am actually shocked by the price increase, it made sense last time, but this time it feels unreasonable.

In addition, Apple now advertises battery life of "up to 5 hrs wireless productivity", an increase over the previous advertised battery life of 4.5 hours. Finally, the new MacBook is advertised to meet new Energy Star Version 5.0 requirements and is rated EPEAT Gold, compared to a Silver rating on the previous model.

Does this mean they made significant internal changes to the Whitebook? How else can they up the processor and memory speed and still have a longer battery life than the previous model and meet the Gold Energy Star requirements?
