it can do this![]()
Macs are trucks. iPads are cars. There will always been a need for trucks, but it's overkill and inefficient for the mainstream. Plain and simple. Don't fight it.
I plan on my late 2013 MacBook Air lasting me for at least another 4+ years... But will this be my last Mac? Maybe. Probably. As it is now I do 75% of my computing on my iPhone and the last 25% is split between Mac and iPad. As iPad hardware/software beefs up, I can see my Mac dwindling even further.
What's a computer? A RAW photo editor...
I don't mind the idea of an iPad replacing my computer; if it actually could.
If it were possible to download and edit RAW photo files from my camera and store and backup those files and edits, then an iPad could replace a computer for me, as yet it can not.
I'm sure many others feel the same about their own OSX bound applications.
The annoying thing is, it probably could if Apple cared about these kinds of use cases for theirtoolstoys, just look at the Surface Pro (sure I'll get castigated for that one).
Here's a dose of reality. For the vast majority of home and casual users, an iPad is perfect. I'm a multimedia designer and use a high end iMac at work. At home I use my iPad Pro 99 percent of the time. Apple doesn't want to get rid of the Mac. It still has its uses. But the iPad is simply better and quicker with certain things. With iPad Pro, the screen blows any Mac laptop out of the water with viewing angle and doesn't get hot when watching movies. If you need tons of multitasking , get a Mac and be happy. But many of us just don't need it anymore for home use.
Or maybe Tim just wants to sell iPads that can double as phones. We don't need no stinking laptops!.....hahahahaof course they won't quit the mac / macOS product line, i think the reason of the long wait, is that a redesign is on its way - and if they update them too close to that launch, no one will buy the new ones.
I think this will be the year of mac, now that the iPhone won't be that exciting.

Maybe Apple is thinking to convert as many people as they can away from macs because they figured those who need a full computer would buy one anyway.
Dump the Trashcan Mac Pro and return to a "real" pro device with internal upgradability and expandability.
No. It's a tactic they're using to distract people into focusing on iOS and hide the truth about the lack of iMac/Macbook updates. Tim should have been fired a long time ago and replaced with someone from the outside who has the balls to dump Intel and go somewhere else. It's not entirely about Intel but it's part of the problem.
Someone on MR posted this article which is related to this: http://www.forbes.com/sites/brookec...h-apples-macbook-i-asked-around/#27f1c0d05480
Yup. It sure is. Waiting for new Mac's is like waiting for money to fall from the sky from trickle-down economics. Still waiting.......The transition to MaciOS is in full swing now.![]()

Oh. why is Apple holding out though? They can upgrade whenever they want.
It's a complex situation but they could have upgraded a year ago. The problem is, I think, they're focusing too much on iOS and especially the Watch which took them about 4-5 years to make. Competitors are making their PCs cheaper with the latest components and Apple is somewhat overcharging for components that are not quite up to date. That's a problem.
Going premium is biting them in the a$$.
Yes you canYou cannot write iOS apps on iOS.
