I bet you the overwhelming majority of ipod (any type) users go with the stock earbuds.

Why buy new ones when you get a free pair?

Of course, a lot of people get upgrades (i use third party ones as well) but most people don't bother. So apple probably isn't too worried about the audiophiles that use other earbuds with the shuffle. (Hell, even I use the regular apple ones with my shuffle.) That being said, the shuffle is not really an audiophile's product is it? It's just music on the go.

I dunno, I could be wrong here, but I'm sure they have done some market research that doesn't just involve reading posts on macrumors.

Exactly! The shuffle is supposed to be apples zero thrills music on the go device. Music, just music, which is probably why like someone else stated that you cant fast forward through a song (which I'm not sure of yet).

True that most people use the stock buds, I do myself and prefer them to others actually. But a lot of people break the buds, and while the AS covers them if they stop working too quickly, you really are on your own most of the time.

They do looks gorgeous though. :D

Engadget reported that Apple is coming out with an adapter (which still sucks) but at least you can use third party headphones. They also said Apple is working with manufacturers to get more compatible ones to the market.

Babe!

Anyone else think that the new iPod Shuffle girl is a babe??!! :D

How do I use my running headphones, Apple earbuds are worthless for exercise since they fall out. Shuffles are THE iPod for running so this doesn't make sense.

Whatever you are running with now, keep using it.
Or, it really is only a matter of hours before 3rd party adapters hit the scene that will allow your "running headphones" to function the same as Apple's buds. Or, there is still the click-wheel shuffle (Apple obviously anticipated the aftermarket headphone backlash).

That said, I think this a pretty slick idea. All device functionality built into the ear bud cable allows for true stow & go - once it's in your pocket (clipped to your jacket) never pull out the device. As a snowboarding iPhone 3G owner, it would be nice to have this option on my iPhone as well.
*wonders if a Software Update could include these features - in conjunction with new headphones (or adapter)*

The number of jealous PC fanboys in this forum has been growing of late...don't worry. The iPod is BY FAR the most successful music player in history, and the new Shuffle is just gonna widen the gap even more...NOTHING COMES CLOSE.

has the engadget article been mentioned that thrrid party headphones will be useable with a dongle!

that should shut up most of the moaners!

http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/11/new-ipod-shuffle-requires-extra-adapter-for-third-party-headphon/

Ok stop quoting this article have any of you actually read it properly, its criticising and moaning about the ipod shuffle like the rest of us.
Its almost like how PCs you don't have things built in so you buy adapters and then end up with cables and dongles sticking out of your computer, wait isn't that apple hates?

apple is really making a (new) name for themselves as of late.

not only is the new shuffle $10 more than the previous version, but now customers are locked in to use those terrible white ear buds.

but at least it's smaller! because the last one was SO HUGE it gave me a hernia carrying it

Lol. $10 more? Brand new products are ALWAYS put up to high prices because they know there are people out there who will go "I HAVE TO HAVE ONE" and will buy it straight away or as soon as they can afford it.

In a few months when sales slump, Apple will have to reduce the prices once again. Its called marketing and sales  im guessing after the first two months of sales, the prices will drop back to normal. Look at the new Mac Mini, for us in England the base model has gone from £399 to £499, but i know by summer the price will be back to £399.

All industry standard headphones would be compatible if they kept the controls on the device. Or can we say the shuffle is incompatible with the headphones?

Discussing the looks of the female Apple employee in the iPod shuffle video = the lamest of geeky sad behavior.

Yes, human nature is sooo geeky isnt it?

Your telling me that you never think about the looks of women (or men) you see? I take it you don't find any women in movies, TV, magazines attractive either?

How do you "upgrade" an iPod Shuffle? (Or an iMac for that matter?) Do you send it to Apple, pay a small fee and get the newer and greater model in return?

Whenever Steve Jobs uses the phrase "we want you to UPGRADE", I feel the urge to hit him with a baseball bat. That guy will go down in history as the inventor of the throw-away computer. Talking about "a greener Apple" - hah! With their product philosophy, they're creating more high tech garbage than anybody else.

Shhh!!! I don't want to hear any of your fancy schmancy sales and marketing nonsense! That's some of that book-learning thats the work of the devil!

I want to live in a world where everything caters to my specific needs and price points!

Finally

Finally an Apple product that I have zero interest in owning.

  • It's ugly,
  • I don't want my MP3 Player talking to me,
  • I don't want to double, triple, quadruple click my Mp3 player.
  • When I work out I have the cord run up on my back, I'll look like a retard trying to reach the volume.

Stupid product.. just asinine

Hmmm 1/2 the reasons have to do with appearence......

No actually the lamest geeky sad behavior is berating discussing the looks of a female apple employee, normal men discuss women half their days, it would be sad had the forum not noticed a pretty looking girl and focused solely on whining about the earphones.
