Well they have been dumb enough not to give me an adaptor so I can run the new 24 inch monitor on my 2 year old mac pro...

Yea, well your Mac Pro is 2 years old and you can buy an adapter that will make it work with your 2 year old Mac Pro!!! Just like you will be able to buy an adapter to make this work with other headphones.

For $29 you get:

Nothing. It's not functional without the headphones and USB cable, so there's no point in saying that the shuffle costs '$29', because $29 gets you a device which does absolutely nothing by itself.

With a $29 pair of earphones in the box, you're getting the 4GB iPod for $50. I know that quite a few people here don't like the earbuds (I never liked the OLD bigger earbuds, but personally find these just fine) -- but I remember when the original 1,000-songs-in-your-pocket iPod came out in 2001 and cost me $399. True you're getting 1 less GB and no screen, but -- wow... $50 for 1000 songs!

I remember my parents being thrilled to death when they bought their first 300MB hard drive ~18 years ago ($600 maybe ??), that doesn't mean it's a good deal now.

And $30 for earbuds is a joke. They're cheap and okay for something included with the product, but they wear out if you actually use them

Does anyone know for sure that only Apple earbuds will work? What about third-party headphones that work with the iPhone (i.e., that have a clicker in the wire)?

For anyone that doesnt like to read, apple is going to work with 3rd parties to have others release compatible headphones AS WELL AS releasing an adaptor soon.

I personally hate listening to the same set of songs every time I work out, sometimes your in that super pumped up mood, sometimes its the "i gotta work out today i guess" mood. Its nice to have a decent sized collection.

Still though, provided you don't work out more than 12 hours a week, that's just once a week you change them out..

I donno, I use an 8GB nano now because shuffles+ sweat don't mix.

this is silly. I don't like it one bit. I like my headphones. I refuse to use apple headphones and I refuse to spend more an an adapter to use my headphones. Ugh.

I can? Where is the DVI to Mini DV port adaptor? I'll buy one right this second!

Ordered a black-one, as my previous shuffle as given up it seems. I'm a bit mixed on the new design, I don't understand why they didn't just put the new style of buttons on the iPod itself, as I wore my previous generation shuffle on the collar of my T-Shirt anyway so the controls were easy to get-at.

I don't mind the headphone colour, but it'd be nice to be able to use the inner-type headphones and things but the lack of controls make that impossible.

I know I'm in the minority here but I think they definitely have value. Heck even just buying a 4GB flash drive will cost you around $20. I think Apple's put a lot of value in this product.

Yeah forget the fact that you have 8 years worth of technological advances in that time, and your last peice about buying a 4GB Flash stick for $20, this new shuffle is basically that with a headphone socket (yes i know it will have a certain processor to allow it play songs and do voice over but, going back to the whole dont worry there is a third party adapter, great ok let me just go buy more extra's for this just like you do for PC's because they don't come with built in bluetooth or built in isight, i thought apple was about not having extra things to plug in because it all comes there in the box.

I'm not really sure what this means?

I had my shuffle clipped to my shirt when I was mountain biking and it got a tiny bit of sweat in it.. now it works about 1/10 of the time, and only shows up in itunes when I plug it in probably once a week.

I'm using a nano now, which sucks because it's in my pocket and kind of dangerous to change tracks. The shuffle is a great product, and there was nothing wrong with having it clipped to your clothes and using it to change tracks.

The 2nd gen model was TOTALLY INTOLERANT TO MOISTURE though.

Its because putting them on the device itself would result in ALOT of unwanted functions being triggered, its practically the size of the headphone unit anyways!

NT1440 you spend a lot of time here.. 3,531 posts since may of last year? Impressive.

Apple currently doesn't sell them but my company which makes USB and Video cables is currently making an adapter. That is all I can tell you right now. It will be available soon. (Maybe even at the Apple Store)

Yup, most of my schoolwork takes place on a computer, so i always have a tab open to here.

Funny thing is, I dont even own a mac, yet.

(i can't help but to think there was a negative implied in your post)

Hah! there's one that connects the new miniport Macs to OLD DVI monitors, but the new Miniport LED screens WILL NOT work with OLD DVI macs.

By the way, the miniport -> DL-DVI adapter costs $100--no joke.

Oh I see, they should offer a version where you just get the shuffle, no connectors and no earbuds so its cheaper, right?
Of course not. That other poster was trying to tell us (or was just kidding about it) the device itself costs only $29.

All the people saying that "oh so now i can't use my high end headphones.."

i think the point of the iPod shuffle is that it's cheap, or for working out.

i don't think the point is to use your $300 high end headphones when your working out, get them all sweaty and yum!

if you want to use your $300 headphones, then get a $300 iPod and stop complaining! + the apple in ear headphones work, and their pretty decent.

just my thoughts :apple:
