I’d say use an external drive and keep it a clean install.
Good call. Got a new 2TB Sansung T7 hooked up to a CalDigit TS 3+ with Gigabit Ethernet. Big deal is 30K of photos. Will move that over in bulk on the T7. Will reinstall all programs. Documents aren't that big a file. iCloud sync should help. First clean install in quite a few Macs...don't want to drag any bad things on the new machine, especially on a new architecture. Excited to get started and then 2018 15 inch i9 goes out the door. Appreciate everyone's posts so I can keep the faith over a very long supply chain. Still a ways to go.

everyone is different but I have found even with old windows machines the trying to sort out migration no matter how easy the software might make it, it will evenly lead to issues down the line. if you need any help I am one of so many on here that will happily advise.

I will be doing the same when mine arrives, I have everything on an external hard drive sorted and a folder that is ready to moves the files I wants to keep on my local drive. My current Mac (MacBook Air 13, 2014) will be used as a Plex server and other server stuff until I buy a used Mac mini 2011+ for the server stuff.

Mine left HK at 9pm local time. Seems like it’s heading to ANC then probably to Louisville. Still have my fingers crossed it comes tomorrow ? this wait is killing me.
good to hear that. Mine is still there as of today. Yours took flight much faster, while I’m only 4h away from HK. ?

Which Mac have your ordered and what will be your primary use for it?
I ordered the MBP 16/1TB. Will use it mainly for private purposes but also for work. I am a scientist so will use it to write manuscripts, statistics, photo editing and poster layouts. Luckily almost all programs I use have a MAC pendant. I am just switching from a windows PC so pretty much excited about the new user experience. Can't decide so far on the photo editing and DTP programs. I used Corel and Adobe but want to give either Canvas Draw or the Affinity suite a chance.

Nice, if you haven't used a Mac before not to worry its not a huge jump. I would hold off on Adobe until we get the M1 versions of apps and you would be right to give others a chance. if you need any advice or tips then feel free to get a hold of me. One things for sure, you will love the macOS

Was just charged for the MBP 16GB/2TB today. Looks like the Feb 1 delivery day should be beat! ?

For those who ordered a similar spec'd laptop as me:

Ordered: 12/19
Delivery Date (as of right now): 2/1
Charge Date: 1/13

Affinity is already M1 ready as is Pixelmator Pro. I really like Luminar AI, but use all three. Luminar AI is not M1 compatible, but per several reviews runs OK on Rosetta 2.

Haha... Me too! Congrats on your new toy!
Hey Again, I'm curious if you have noticed a strange "mold" kind of smell on your power cable? Mine has it and only on the USB-C cable itself. Have been talks with Apple, and sadly they can't replace only the cable, so I have to return the whole machine to them again for a replacement (maybe the machine could be affected too?)

So now I'm again on the wait status thread and replacement model is set for delivery 5-12 February :( original order was 14 december, delivery 7th january.

The machine was though solid, love it, and can't wait to meet again, hopefully with a normal smelling machine.

There's a thread around here somewhere about a mouldy smelling cable.
I don't think I'd send it back though tbh. You can buy another cable if it won't clean up. I know you shouldn't have to but waiting another x weeks for a replacement because of a smelly cable wouldn't be my first choice.
If the laptop is smelly too that might be different.
I'm waiting for a replacement after a hardware fault (trackpad) and it's no fun at all! Not even got a date yet - ordered 4th Jan!

Yeah was considering replacing the cable, but I'm just worried if the internals of the machine have been exposed to heavy moist, maybe there could be a issue later on, which will be more difficult to be replaced.

But ok, I can survive the wait, have a mac mini M1 as the main machine - but it sucks anyways to let it go :p
Sad to hear about your hardware fault, hope you won't have to wait too long on the replacement.

Fair enough. The cable and the laptop probably aren't made in the same place.
Interesting that somebody else had the same thing though.
