Every maker brings some positives and negatives. Next to my MBA M1, my Lenovo Thinkpad is my favorite (my work issued laptop is a Dell Latitude - not a fan!). The track pad and pointer movement/action is one that Apple always seemed spot on even with my brief Mac usage prior 8 years before M1 (opinions will vary on “good” trackpad, obviously).
I Always thought that was odd. It seems absurdly! simple to de-engineer user exp. items like a trackpad, and adopt any superior element of that competitor/Apple (assuming there’s nothing patented or a limited engineering ability).
I feel like there are a lot of opinions about a lot of things, ranging all over the place. However, I feel like everyone agrees that Apple has the best trackpad. Am I wrong??

I recently upgraded to the M1 Air due to my 16" overheating issues, and it's amazing the portability and being able to just grab it with one hand and be able to the coffee shop as if it was an iPad

That's interesting, do you use a company device for your daily workloads? I have been given a Dell Latitude where I run Linux on, but after a week I just installed everything on my personal Mac and work via Citrix for my Windows apps lol.

I just can't fathom the Dell trackpad.. Plus the only decent keyboard in my view is in the Thinkpads... And don't get me started on the Battery Life, best I can get out of that Dell either in Linux or Windows is 5h. Only by modifying the TDP I can increase it.

Bloody Intel chips :D
Sorry for the delay in the response! Yes, my daily (personal) workloads in addition to my work obligations were used with the compny given Dell Latitude as well. The trackpad on this thing is the ABSOLUTE WORST. It actually only works sparingly now as I believe now there is something wrong with it. Stlll debating on getting the Magic Trackpad for my MBA as I am not enjoying the Magic Mouse as much as I thought I would.

My personal usage has obviously now switched to the MBA M1. I can get amazing battery life on that thing and only find myself charging it once, maybe twice a week so far. Its been a terrific device to use even for my lighter personal workflow so I see myself having this thing for a very long time since I wont be driving it into the ground at all.

Completely understand! I moved from the Dell Latitude > MacBook Pro 16" > and now MacBook Air M1. I do a lot of work via Citrix but I CBA about using my company issue computer since I'd rather have a good screen in front of me (Plus this one doesn't heat up like my dell or my 16", f# Intel)

I just placed an order for a Mini 16/500 and it's scheduled for July 1 - July 7. I got tired of waiting for the M1X. When we get an M1X, I'll give the M1 Mini to my wife to replace her 2018 Mini i3. I'd love to be surprised with an early arrival but these things seem like they are still in high demand. I will need to order a cable to drive a 4k display from the USB-C/4 or whatever it is.

Update: shipped from China on Friday, June 25, 2021 EST. Expected arrival Thursday, July 1, 2021 EST. So they don't maintain inventories of these things. I'd guess that the Mini 16/500 is a very popular model. I think that it would be more efficient to make a bunch of these and stock them in the stores, similar to how they stock the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air 16/1 models.

I ordered an M1 MBA (space gray):
Apple M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 8‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine
16GB unified memory
512GB SSD storage

on June 17, 2021, at 8:55AM (CST), and was given the following info:
Ships: 5–7 business days
Delivers: Jul 6 - Jul 8 by Standard Delivery
Received mine today (6/25), much faster than they said!

Shipped with Big Sur 11.3.1. So I guess it was made after May3 but before May24. Right?

Something I’ve noticed with a lot of packages lately is delayed shipping due to various kinds of delays. I think that there were weather issues and labor shortages. So it wouldn’t surprise me if it were a day or to late unless Apple has some guaranteed delivery time.

Last Sunday (June 27) I ordered my Mac Mini M1 (16GB RAM / 512GB SSD / 10GB Ethernet) and a Magic keyboard. The keyboard has been delivered yesterday. Today I received a message from Apple saying I will receive my Mac Mini M1 on Friday 2nd before the end of the day. I'm waiting anxiously

Is it in Louisville right now? That’s where mine is. I suspect that they will put it on a plane tonight and that it will be local early in the morning and then put on a truck for delivery. We have heavy rain forecast for tomorrow so I want to grab it as soon as I can.

Mini was received, as scheduled. The UPS delivery guy left it out in the rain but I got it before the box got too wet. I'm setting it up in a KVM station right now and may try to integrate it into my work environment this afternoon or tonight at the latest.

Yesterday (June 2nd) I received my Mac Mini M1 (16GB/512GB SSD/10GB LAN). So far everything looks great. Stunning performance and 'dead quiet'.
I'm happy :p

Good to hear.

I integrated it onto my desktop and it feels great. And yes, cool and quiet.

One of my friends has a 2018 i3 with 32 GB of RAM. He showed me a thermal chart of the CPU. It was mostly pinned to 100 degrees. I showed him mine running around 35 degrees. This guy is a managing director in a chip R&D organization and he can really appreciate the M1. He is planning on retiring late this year and will buy an Apple Silicon Mini as a present to himself. He would prefer a 32 GB model so hopefully M1X is out by then.

Just put my 2012 mini i7/Fusion/16gb on eBay, now what to replace it with…..
If you go for an M1 Mac select at least 16GB of RAM. Even though the way memory is handled more efficiently by the M1 chip, many people complain about the "spinning beachball" with 8GB versions. With respect to the SSD I decided to buy my Mac Mini with 512GB SSD. Not the 1TB as this is very expensive. I will probably buy an external SSD from Sabrent.: Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q 2TB as they have the highest throughput (currently) for a remarkable price. Unfortunately I will have to wait until those gems are available again on Amazon in The Netherlands.
Finally I went for 10GB Ethernet as I have a 10GB Switch with 4 10GBT ports. Looks like the 10GB Ethernet M1 Mac is a new iteration of the Mac Mini (or am I incorrect?)
