Just ordered a M1 Mini (16GB/1TB) to replace my Late 2009 Mini (El Capitan) that was maxed at 8GB that I had installed a 500GB SSD in it years ago. I'm an average user (don't create audio/video content) but had been having issues with web pages loading slowly and graphics crashing, not being able to play 1080 YouTube videos without glitches, and some challenges outputting 24/196 lossless audio files out to an external DAC and streaming them on Qobuz app. Lots of Mac apps won't upgrade due to El Capitan so it was really beyond time for a new desktop.

Was going to wait to see if Apple announced a higher level processor (M1X, M2, ???), but just got to the point that my desktop experience was REALLY diminished.

It's my nature to hold on to things, and I'm sure I'll keep the new M1 Mini a long time which is why I configured it like I did. So, when do I replace my iPhone 7+?? LOL

Something that wasn't clear to me during the Apple presentation, the new iMac has a magnetic power cable. Should it be assumed that this is MagSafe v2.0 in that if tugged it will disconnect from the computer without pulling it down?

Picked up a new base configured Macbook Air M1 earlier today. My last Mac was a 2013 13" Macbook Pro which was a very good machine. I sold it a few months ago and have been making do with an 8th generation iPad. But it was time for a laptop again

Looks good so far except for the few hours to download Big Sur 11.3 but my connection is slow.

After having been without a laptop for over a year (I had my late-2013 15" MacBook Pro from Dec 2013-January of 2020, when it finally gave out on me). My 11" iPad Pro has been my trusty companion when it comes to entertainment and other essentials. I didn't think I'd need a laptop because the iPad Pro is such a beast, it does everything I need it to. However, there are some things I specifically need a laptop for (like transferring files/music to my phone, or watching a movie with friends online together through streaming services).

Anyway, to make a long story short, I will be moving to Florida after having lived in NY my whole life (I'm moving because of work), and since this will be my first time away from family and out on my own, I needed something that would make I easier to keep in touch with them outside of just FaceTime and calls, but where I can watch things with them and such. So last Friday, after having thought long and hard, I purchased myself the 2020 13" MacBook Pro M1 16GB/1TB in Space Grey. I had a big Christmas bonus from work that I haven't had a chance to use yet, so I decided now was a good time to get my laptop, finally. It was scheduled to deliver this coming Tuesday, however, to my surprise, when I woke up this morning, I saw that it was scheduled for delivery today! So once I got home, I opened it up and set it up and I am absolutely loving it. I missed having a laptop. It's been a long time coming, and I'm so happy to be back!

I just ordered a specced out silver 24“ through MacTrade. They offer a 100 euro voucher with twelve months of 0% financing and a 36 month warranty extension, so I just couldn't resist.

Here’s my laptop all fired up this morning! I still have to play with it more and add some things, but so far so good! This thing is super fast! When I synced my music that isn’t available on iTunes to my phone (about 2k worth) it loaded it up in literally one minute when on my sisters windows laptop it would take up half the day to download and sync all the music onto the device. That literally shocked me because I’ve never seen anything this fast! Not even my previous late-2013 15” MacBook Pro! Safe to say, I love this thing already!

I just noticed on the iPad order page that there’s no option between 8gb and 16gb RAM. it looks like you can only order the different drive size which determines the RAM configuration?

Have placed an order for a M1 MBP in a 16 Gig / 512 Tb configuration. Will be a few weeks here in the UK.

The last Mac I've owned was (is!) a 2011 MacBook Air. Still working relatively well if you discount the top row of the keyboard not always working ;)

Use Windows for everything else nowadays, but curious to try it out (So will be thinking hard during the 14 day return window).

Ordered an M1 MacMini 8/256 ... expected delivery between May 7-11. That's two week before my new M1 iMac 8/256 is supposed to be delivered May 21-27. I traded-in my previous iMac and MacMini.

Got an M1 Air (16GB/1TB) ordered Sunday, ETA 18th in UK, to replace a mid-2012 MBP I’d upgraded similarly, that’s been starting to fail. Hope it arrives even faster!

Ordered a refurb M1 Air (8GB Ram, 512 GB SSD). I’ve been trying to go fully iPad Pro, but I need to be able to work on Excel, which beyond basic tasks is not a great experience.

I plan to hang onto this for the next 3-4 years just for misc tasks that the IPP doesn’t do a great job of addressing.

Ordered mine 08:10 EDT on April 30. On May 15 Apple and Fedex notified me that it was in Shanghai. It arrived in Memphis, TN on May 18, and they are apparently holding it for May 21.

I finally went ahead and purchased a base M1 MacBook Air over the weekend. First MacBook since my 2012 Pro died a few years ago and have been using the iPad Pro (2018, 11") ever since. Will be nice to have MacOS back and see how the iPP compliments the laptop!

NO, it is not "MagSafe" it is magnetic - the new iMac magnet power cable is firmly attached and if you trip over it your iMac will go down with you.

That's interesting, do you use a company device for your daily workloads? I have been given a Dell Latitude where I run Linux on, but after a week I just installed everything on my personal Mac and work via Citrix for my Windows apps lol.

I just can't fathom the Dell trackpad.. Plus the only decent keyboard in my view is in the Thinkpads... And don't get me started on the Battery Life, best I can get out of that Dell either in Linux or Windows is 5h. Only by modifying the TDP I can increase it.

Bloody Intel chips :D

Anyone getting their iMac/iPad sooner than expected?

I got my MBA M1 on the ETA date which was 2 day free shipping. Would have been nice if they overnighted it but 2 days was fine. However this was a refurb from the Apple store.

So far the MBA M1 has been an excellent machine. A windows needed item I had to use a workaround kinda (more than kinda)sucked but otherwise extremely happy.

Every maker brings some positives and negatives. Next to my MBA M1, my Lenovo Thinkpad is my favorite (my work issued laptop is a Dell Latitude - not a fan!). The track pad and pointer movement/action is one that Apple always seemed spot on even with my brief Mac usage prior 8 years before M1 (opinions will vary on “good” trackpad, obviously).
I Always thought that was odd. It seems absurdly! simple to de-engineer user exp. items like a trackpad, and adopt any superior element of that competitor/Apple (assuming there’s nothing patented or a limited engineering ability).
