Hmmm....that is a good idea actually. That would allow an easy expansion to 48 or 64 GB in the future. You've got me thinking again.

Is there any issue running just two sticks in this machine?? I guess the base 4-core runs 3 sticks so shouldn't be any issues??

How about running 2 of the included 4GB sticks (from the base 12GB 4-core) and then adding 2 16GB sticks for 40GB total. Any issues with mismatched RAM sizes and brands??

Except for it already has 12 or 16 GB, it doesn't make sense to toss that and refill with 2x16GB sticks. Why not just wait until you want more RAM and then upgrade?

Return ticket from London to NY is $800. Might as well make a vacation out of it!!

i thought of that for the rMBP haha :p

theres actually a company doing a special deal for "new york shopping days" £300 ($450) return

they probably pack the passengers in like sardines though and charge $500 to bring your shopping home again :p

But if I bought the 12GB, I could still use 2 of the included sticks and would only be throwing out 4GBs. That would be 40GB to start with and easier upgrade path to 64GB if I wanted to. Also the crucial price of $440 is less than Apple's $500 they want to go from 12 to 32GB and then you are stuck with 4x8GB that you'd have to throw away if you wanted 64GB in the future.

And this new MP is soooo tiny it would fit easily in a carry-on bag:D You could even plug it in to the seat back and use it on the plane with a small 13" monitor....LOL

6 Core
16GB Ram
512GB SSD
D500's

Delivery: January

I don't think since the initial iPhone has there been such a long wait time from product announcement to order date to ship date.

Ah well... almost there!

I wonder why so few take D300.

I'm sticking with D300s as I only use it for Lightroom and very small amount of PS. Most people are probably doing video work and now the new FinalCut has been optimized to use these new GPUs.

But 32 GBs from Apple leaves you stuck with 4x8. I am thinking of going with 2x16 from Crucial and then I can fill the other two slots with 16 GBs sticks when I feel the need.

I'm with you.

I will not upgrade ram as soon my nMacPro arrive, 12GB it will serve me well for a few months.

I'll get later 2 x 16Gb sticks from Crucial.

I still not decide what I will get.

- 6 Core / D500 / 512GB SSD - €3.495
or
- 6 Core / D300 / 512GB SSD - €3.169
or
- 6 Core / D300 / 256Gb SSD - €2.929
+
- Apple Thunderbolt Display 27" - €729 (not from store.apple.com/pt)

All the prices are without VAT (I don't pay VAT).

The 256GB SSD it's fine for me, I still have 120GB SSD free space with all the programs I need, but thinking in the future 512GB it's AWESOME!

I will work most of the time with audio the video it's only for playback, but I might want to learn Video Editing and jump on that road too in the future.

I think I'll wait from D300 vs D500 benchmarks to decide if It's worth spending +€400.

Yeah will be quite fine for Aperture and Logic, Shade3d will be problemfree with it, too and ZBrush couldnt care any less for GPU used ;)

But the 32Gb ram and the 6core will speed up zBrush and my rendertimes in Shade3d much.

Delivery is now February. I checked an hour ago and January was the date. If I wait till tomorrow, maybe I'll have it by June?

Wow, you are right, I know some people who ordered earlier when it said January actually had delivery estimates already for Feb 2nd or so. This thing has years of pent up demand despite all the naysayers.

Put my order in says shipping in February but ship to store date was March 3rd. Apple better figure this crap out, I was planning to do a project in January. I could probably wait til February, but March, really?!?!

Got my order in at 9am (GMT) today. Are there any in Apple Stores today? I am really interested to know if processor / gpu / RAM is upgradeable.

March sounds crazy! I understand about pent up demand, but two more months is a little nuts. I guess I'll have some time to read the reviews and tear-downs. I wanted to wait until the New Year anyway as my photography business was basically shut down this year when I shattered my knee. I don't really need a write off in 2013 with so little income from that business. Fortunately, writing software doesn't require two good knees, which is the other job! I guess by the time I order in 2014 (I should have it by the crazy October wedding season!

Currently, I'm leaning towards the 6-Core with 512GB SSD, D500s and 32GB RAM. I use mostly Aperture (Where's that upgrade?!?!), Photoshop and On One's Perfect Photo plugins. Also need to figure out external storage as my 2nd Gen Drobos are sloooooow.
