Finally decided to buy this over the LG, Benq and Dell - been us8jg since last Friday and my god it’s gorgeous. I have very poor vision but the 5k makes the font so crisp I can red nicely at the 2560p resolution. Zero buyers remorse and I have it paired with an Ergotron LX and my brand new Mac Studio. Love this setup.

Have a dumb question. My wife has a MacBook Pro - what’s the best way for her to hook up to the display occasionally? Just unplug the TB4 cable from the Mac Studio and connect to her MacBook? Will that do anything to the Mac Studio (like a reset or anything - it’d still be powered on)?

I switch from a desktop Studio Mac to different laptops all the time just by using the same TB4 cable from the monitor. No issues.

Will Apple convert a studio display from normal stand to VESA if I take it to Apple Store? is there a cost?

After some patience I have discovered a bug that caused the brightness sensor to stop working.

If you select any of the other profile presets (Digital Cinema, Design Print, etc) and then switch back to the default Apple Display 600 nits profile then sometimes the brightness sensor will no longer work.

This is because even though you think you have set it back to the default profile the system and the monitor is actually stuck on the other profile you were using.

In other words, the preference pane has not switched back to the default profile and is showing you the wrong information.

To fix this you have to switch off all your lights (yea this sounds weird) and then keep switching between profiles until the system applies the profile correctly again.

Now the brightness sensor should work, but there will still be a bug. You will see the screen automatically adjust brightness but the brightness sliders in the settings panel will not move.

Quit the Settings app and launch it again. Now the sliders will also work.

Hey! I'm planning to buy a Studio Display and connect it to my Macbook Pro 16 and also as an extra option for my future PC for gaming. I heard that the Belkin cable for Huawei VR fully provides the ASD functionality (5K, speakers) on a PC, is this true? Has anyone tried connecting this monitor to a PC with a Radeon 7900 XTX card? It has a USB-C output with display port technology up to 8K. Will this work, does anyone know?

I wondered colour your Ergotron LX arm was?

When using the apple display, I have multiple devices that are unusable because of digital noise introduced by the display. Both my Apollo twin thunderbolt interface and my Axe Effects FM3 get a constant digital clicking noise introduced by the display, and any image changes on the screen result in additional noise.

I've tried a ton of different remedies including power conditioners, but the only thing that actually worked was plugging the Apple display into a portable battery, and then the noise disappears.

I'm at my wits end, I have no idea how to fix this issue.

I wonder if you have a ground loop of some sort. The fact that plugging it into a battery backup solves the issue really suggests that.

As a test, try plugging the Studio Display in using one of those ungrounded to grounded outlet adapters, and don't connect the tab.

If the problem goes away, you have some sort of ground loop you need to suss out.

Haha I had actually already ordered one of those adapters, I’m pretty sure it’s going to “fix” it… at that point I have no idea how to actually fix it, this is a newer home. Oh wellll

Silver/chrome. It’s a great premium stand.
The Silver/Chrome suits the ASD best - so a good choice.

I've been looking at the Ollin arm but the Ergotron LX is cheaper and seems just as good, so two options now for me when I eventually get the Vesa ASD.

The Ollin arm can be adjusted to quite low (just a few centimetres off the the desk, a requirement for me) so hopefully the the Ergotron LX can as well.

It can get quite low - haven’t measured but basically touching the desk surface. What I like is it can be extended so far forward.

I do that with my work's MacBook Pro and my personal Mac Studio where I'll unplug/plug the TB4 cable depending on which one needs the Studio Display. I'll usually put my Mac Studio to sleep first before unplugging it though just so it's not running (I won't do this if I need to render a 3D animation so it will continue to run). No issues after my work day and plugging the Studio Display back into my Mac Studio.

I gave in and got a refurb vesa model.

Any recommendations on wall mounted arms for it? I’m reading that the Amazon basics arm is manufactured by egrotron and IS the ergoLX without chrome finish.

I would be too nervous to apply a beta firmware to my ASDs. But eagerly waiting to hear what, if anything, the new firmware supposedly does.
Yeah mine gets temporarily stuck in restore mode when I apply firmware updates. Now way I'm doing beta firmware.

I can't remember if I or someone else asked this, and the thread is 100+ pages long...

For those using the BenQ Halo light bar, does it cover up the ASD's camera when it's mounted on top of the display?

Yes it does/will.

The solution is to move the Halo light bar slightly (~1") to either the left or the right of center.
