Well, I took the plunge and purchased a used tilt-only glossy Studio Display off of CL for, what I consider, a fair price and savings over new (<$1K!). (The fella who sold it to me decided he needed the VESA mount version and the local Apple Store said they could not accommodate the conversion from the standard mount so he had to purchase a new ASD and was forced to sell this unit?) The seller was a local business owner and a true gent, I'd say we both got lucky with this CL transaction! :) He was even so kind as to give me his longer TB4 cable as he wished to keep the original shorter one for his needs...win, win!

The unit is flawless and I'll be comparing it to my 2019 27" i9 iMac display and checking calibration between that, my 16" M1 Max MBP XDR display, and this display. Should I find some interesting news or technical tidbits worth sharing with these tests I'll be sure to post a new topic with that information.

In the meantime, I'm greatly looking forward to getting my desk set up to finally, um, "spread out" FCP when working with HDR footage from my Panasonic S1's and GH6! (i.e. using the ASD for the timeline, libraries, scopes, etc. and the MBP XDR screen for the HDR monitoring.) Lot's to learn, this'll be fun!

Congrats and agreed w/ X-ray you will love it.

I think if it wasn't for the price everyone would love it. I believe much of the negative comments are really about the cost and not about the actual product.

IMHO you get what you pay for and the ASD, for the right folks, is really good. By right folks I mean people who are willing to ignore spec sheets - which for the most part one needs to be if buying Apple stuff of any sort. It's just not about 0-60 times when it comes to Apple.

I got the tilt refurb since they didn't have vesa. Can anyone recommend a cute riser to bring it eye level?

I do not understand why people care about cost for adjustable stand if you can just buy nice monitor stand like:

https://www.amazon.com/Giikin-Ergonomic-Tabletop-Organizer-Computer/dp/B08YJJ9ZSC/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?crid=IE6ZBJ6VLHMO&keywords=desk+stand+monitor+brown&qid=1678273437&sprefix=desk+stand+monitor+brown,aps,446&sr=8-9

I was very close to returning ASD for two Dell monitors U2723QE. I really liked two 27” screens setup and found VERY GOOD DISCOUNT in our local shop for this Dell. So the price of twos would be thanks to discount 70 % price of ASD.
Instead of this I returned one Dell and kept ASD.

I did not like paying such price for old specs of ASD but because I own 14” Macbook Pro 2021 and I think this monitor was made exactly for this product line macbooks of year 2021.
So for the compatibility should be the best option for me. And originally I bought this 14 macbook for 5 years. If there will be new miniled monitor with promotion, I do not know if my 14” macbook would be able to run it. So I decide that I should not care about specs..

I think the height adjustable stand is the best minimal look for the Studio display. Yes, you can easily buy a shelf like this but it is far from the minimal aesthetic that Apple promotes.

My brand new standard glass + tilt studio display arrived today. To my horror, as I pealed away the packaging, I discovered smudge marks on the glass screen both lines and circles. The marks wipe away when polished albeit with decent pressure applied to the screen - which I‘m reluctant to do. I’m obviously still in the return window, is it worth the hassle of packaging it all together for an exchange? Anyone got any experience with this?

It's up to you, when I first purchased mine, it's when it were still hard to get, mine initial unit had quite bad yellow tone to it, I called up Apple, returned it, then had to wait a month to get a replacement.

For me, I am going to keep this display for the next 10 years at least, so I don't want it to have flaws that could annoy me on daily basis.

If you can post a picture, that would help. If they wipe away, I wouldn't worry about it. Might just be marks from the suction cups used to hold the glass during installation.

Thanks for your help. All the other marks wiped away - I haven’t tried to wipe these off yet.

Looks like dried fluid or possibly dust accumulated around air bubbles in the sheet that protected the glass, but if they wipe away and the display has no other defects, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Don't use Windex or anything like that on your display's glass. Just a barely damp (water only) microfiber cloth.

Received my display today, installed it with a ergotron monitor arm. Expensive, yes but my work paid for it thankfully. I couldn't imagine going to anything else other than an XDR. The quality and finish are very professional. Had the "IPS black" lineup of Dell monitors had better QC I'd go with them, but I've experienced Dell QC at work and with other devices...

What's interesting is the T5 SSD connected to the monitor is actually faster than when connected directly to my mini. IDEK, but it's 350 read/write vs 450-500 connected to the monitor.

The speakers aren't as good as I had thought, they are better than any monitor speakers I have used ever don't get me wrong, but they are absolute second fiddle to almost any external speaker more than $100.

Agreed. I was disappointed by the speakers and added a Kanto YU2 set up w/ sub. Obviously more than $100.

Yeah speakers certainly won't replace my studio monitors.

I was very disappointed by the cable length. Why does apple cheap out like this? Even the lg 5k came with a longer one.

I too joined the club. Got a refurb Studio Display direct from Apple to go with the M1 Pro 16" I bought recently. Coming from a 27" iMac, the struggle was real to figure out an equivalent monitor without breaking the bank. I feel like the Studio Display, even as a refurb, is really expensive for what it is, but it's hard to fault the build quality. It's a gorgeous piece of technology, and functionally I'm quite happy with it. As a value shopper, however (I waited to buy an Apple Silicon machine until the M2 generation was released just so I could pick up an M1-based machine at closeout), it feels like a perfect $999 monitor. The $1300-and-change I paid feels like too much, much less $1599 brand new. It really drives home what an incredible deal the 27" iMac was throughout its history.

Was pleasantly surprised by the speakers. I agree with the consensus, they're not "excellent," but they were good enough for casually listening to music while I work that I retired the old-but-super-punchy satellite and subwoofer system I'd had on my desk for years. Being rid of the extra cables and clutter is nice.

I was also on the verge about buying it one month ago for two reasons. The price and the fact that a new one might be coming out soon, but I could not be happier. I think the fit, finish and design are stunning. As to the speakers, although they suffice for general audio needs, they will not replace standard bookshelf ones. I believe its because of the thin profile they are enclosed in and the fact that they point down, but I am still grateful it has them..

I really don't understand why they made stands so short by default. like would only be ergonomic for a kid/teen.

Agreed. For YouTube audio, FaceTime & Zoom meetings, UI sounds, etc., the built-in speakers are great. If I'm jamming music while I'm working, I've got a pair of HomePods that takes care of that. And iTunes Music can route the music through the HomePods while everything else still goes to the Studio Display's speakers.

The speakers are world class.

In my WFH setup, I have a strict clean desk policy, less is more. And this is where the Apple Studio Display has no competition. It is even better than the Pro XDR for this use case.

Been using mine two weeks. I’ve had 6 or 7 video conferences and in each one someone has commented how good my picture or audio quality is. The speakers to me sound very good - sure you can so spend $150 and get high quality stereo speakers and for some I’m sure it’s needed but for YouTube, web meetings, etc they’re perfectly fine. Best I’ve experienced in a monitor.
