The tilting function on the LX is "easier" due to a spring mechanism on the mount

[Ollin] Doesn't tilt as well but good enough for the lighter ASD'

Just to be clear: are you saying that you've found the tilt on the Ollin to be even tighter to operate than on the Ergotron LX? I.e. needing more force to manouvere? (Assuming best possible adjustments made to the tightness on both)

The Studio Display only has one input, so unless the Nvidia Shield has a USB-C output (which I don't believe it does) and you don't mind swapping cables each time, then no.
Is there a device that I can connect the display in one end and multiple input in another one and easily switch? I have work laptop, personal laptop and my shield

Yes, the LX has a spring mechanism at the Vesa plate to help tilt the display. The Ollin's tilt mechanism is unassisted.

Question: I have a somewhat wobbly desk. I love it other than that. I have multiple ASD - two that are tilt and one that is VESA. The arms I've used on the VESA aren't stable enough such that the monitor will jiggle when I type - super annoying. I have it on a stand mount now that is fully stable.

Do you think either of the arms you've used are stable enough to prevent the wobbling? I'd love to be able to use the ASD in portrait from time to time. Rotating it on the stand mount requires Allen keys and whatnot.

I tried the Ergotron HX clamped to my decently stable desk, but I still thought it wobbled too much.

Is wall-mounting an option? That’s what I ended up doing, also with the Ergotron HX.

I considered wall mounting but decided it wasn't worth the hassle. It's probably the best move if I want to dump the very stable desk stand.

Out of curiosity what do most folks use their ASD resolution at, Default or Scaled? I am finding that fonts are slightly too large in Default (2560x1440) but slightly too small in the next scaled resolution (2880x1620).

For those who have used a 4K monitor and upgraded to an ASD 5K, could you please provide me with some advice? Is the difference significant enough to justify the upgrade? A local store is currently selling the ASD with standard glass and tilt- and height-adjustable stand for the same price as the standard model. I've been interested in the ASD for a while, but I've been using a Dell 4K monitor up until now.

I have used a 5K iMac since 2015. When I replaced it with a MacBook Pro in 2021 I also got a pair of very well-reviewed HP Z27 4K 27" monitors. They were blurry in comparison. When the ASD was introduced I ordered one immediately, and after trying it out for a week or two I ordered a second one, this time with nano-texture, which is the one I use as my primary display now.

I heavily debated the purchase of an ASD when it first came out - seemed absurdly expensive. I bought the best rated Dell 4K and was fully disappointed. Purchased an ASD - and now I own three. . .

Just out of interest what were the disappointments ?
It wasn't impressive at all - low brightness, unimpressive sharpness of fonts, etc. Was just disappointing. I really wanted to be happy w/ 4K and not spend ASD $$$. But you get what you pay for.

I've said this before - I think there are folks for whom 4K looks absolutely fine. I envy those folks.

As others have already pointed out — it's a matter of one's ability to distinguish the difference in sharpness between the two. You see it or you don't. For those who notice the difference an ASD is worth every penny for others it is nothing more than wasting money.

I can only speak for myself. I was using a Dell S2722QC which is a great monitor, but coming from a Retina screen that I was using beforehand it looked like a joke. I knew I wanted a matte finish and when I saw the nano-texture in person (on Pro XDR) I've just made a splurge – no doubts, no questions asked.

If you're deciding between the standard and nano-textured glass the best explanation I can give you is that to my eyes the standard glass seems more appropriate for work in imagery or video (even watching alone) while nano-texture looks more appealing for text based work (I guess it's because of a lower contrast and a more dull image which I highly prefer). I can stare at ASD whole day – no problem (everything feels more soft and easier on the eyes). Standard glass would give me instant headache. I realize that this is not a dominant standpoint but that's just my experience. And it seems like I'm not alone.

Hope you find the solution that works for you.

P.S. No matter which version you choose the ASD has a PWM-free panel which is great news for all ASD owners.

Well put. I also have 3 added to my XDR. The blacks are killer on the XDR...ASDs not so much. They all look beautiful though.

Yes, it‘s a few days until any of us will actually be “owners,” but the reviews should be coming soon, and we should have a dedicated thread to share our thoughts. Suggested topics of discussion:
  • What are your initial impressions (after you set it up)?
  • Are you replacing an existing display or adding a new display?
  • Are you satisfied with your selection of stand/mount? Would you get a different stand/mount if you had to do it over?
  • Are you using it with Windows? How well does it work?
I do love my Mac Studio monitor. But I have Notice when i'am on a website sometimes the screen get all crazy lines and starts flickering and I get off the web site fast. So has anyone else has this happen to you?

hi, I am looking to get a used Apple Studio Display - still within warranty.

anything to look out for when buying/inspecting?

Dead pixels? I assume the monitor is not locked or registered to an owner (or anything fancy like that) - its just an monitor right?

It is actually more or less an iPad, running iOS. However, as far as I can tell it does not require (or allow) you to sign in with your Apple ID, and I haven’t had any issues moving them between computers.

Why not go Apple refurb?

Has anyone tried the Sonoma beta ASD controls? I was reading it's similar to LogiTune in allowing you to pan/zoom the image. Unfortunately, I can't upgrade my Mac Studio because of a single app I rely on isn't compatible yet.

I'd look for excessive light bleed. My first one had a lot of it, the replacement was much better.
