I saw a refurbed VESA model with nano-texture and finally caved in to treat myself and joined the club. I'm very pleased with the display.

My Dell U2723QE was good, but this display blows it out the water.

  • 33% more pixels make text super sharp
  • Nano-texture makes the text less sharp (when compared to non-nano textured version), but from the distance I'm sitting at, I was not able to perceive it.
  • Nano-texture completely removes all glares on the screen even with my desk lamp that is shining close by where it would get picked up with the Dell monitor. This dramatically increases the perceived contrast across the entire screen. Colours pop and the picture looks like it's printed on the monitor itself.
  • The monitor turns on in a split second, wow!
  • Monitor can be controlled by pressing keys on the magic keyboard without having to reach for the monitor, magic!
One interesting thing to note is that in pictures, nano-textured display looks quite blurry, but in real life this is not how I perceive it. This makes me believe that the display is engineered for our visual perception which cannot pick up on the refractions that the etched glass is having which the camera can. I just find this magical and really well thought out.

What VESA monitor arm are your using with your ASD?

You're using an external camera. Not happy with the built-in camera? Once I turned on Center Stage, I was actually satisfied with the camera. Granted the 1080p picture doesn't look great blown up to 5K @ 27", but for average FaceTime calls and Zoom meetings, it's been more than satisfactory.

I'm using the Amazon basics monitor arm. For the price it's very decent although putting the monitor on the arm is not as seamless as the higher end monitor arms like Herman Miller Olin.

If you've got money to spend, the Olin is a much better monitor arm since it allows you to slide the VESA plate into the monitor arm effortlessly and it has a mechanism to adjust the supported weight on the fly so the arm won't spring towards you during installation.

The external Logitech webcam is something I had previously with the Dell U2723QE. I did turn on the camera briefly to take a look using Facetime and yeah, it looks a bit blurry.

So is the picture actually appear blurry on the other person's screen? If it's just my screen, I can live with it, but if it looks blurry for the other person, I think I'll stick with the external web cam.

I have received numerous comments attesting to the excellent quality of the ASD camera during zoom meetings.

Thanks! This gives me confidence to try it out in actual meetings :)
Yeah, I've never had anyone say that my picture was poor. I've also been on meetings where other participants also had Studio Displays and their video feeds looked easily as good if not better than most other people. And let's face it, most people have the cheapest, crappiest cameras available.

I have, however, had people ask just how I was getting the camera to "follow" me when I moved. They were far more interested in Center Stage than any concerns about picture quality.

+1

This describes my experience with my Studio Display exactly.

No one has ever complained about video quality. I don’t have center stage enabled though, I don’t like how big in the frame it makes me.

The webcam issue was really overblown. Like yeah, it's not an amazing cam but it's perfectly fine, and I've never been on a Teams call where I've had the worst cam of everyone there. Most people have terrible webcams and it's never been much of an issue.

For those with Studio Display and are using it for productivity, how many windows do you find you can fit on the screen. Can you comfortably fit 2 windows full screen side by side? Say email or Word or something like that? Using a 34" UW now that I can fit 3 side by side and am debating switching to Studio Display for increased sharpness.

I received my Studio Display today, brilliant colors and resolution. .... however when comparing to my 2010 iMac not a lot happened since then.

Keep in mind there are the non-visible things Apple has upgraded

* 12MP ultra wide camera for center stage
* New 6 speaker array
* 3 mic array with improved noise cancellation
* new nano-texture version being an option

Yep, I can fit 2 windows side by side with lots of room left over. In fact, as a result of added resolution, I turn on center stage as the impact on usuable screen real estate is minimal due to the additional pixels.

In fact, on my work mac, I can comfortably have slack on the bottom left corner, calendar on the top left corner, and on the other side browser open all at once.

Hi there fellow ASD owners. As a fresh ASD owner I was wondering if anyone got used to the buzzing sound coming from the ASD?

I realize that, but overall I'm not impressed with the picture quality of the Apple Studio Display compared to a 2010 iMac, for me not really worth the money. Just also bought the 15" Air which is an upgrade to my old eyes.
