Apple Studio Display - Owners Thread

I've lost track of the number of monitors I've tried since the ASD was launched and I keep coming back to the ASD. For me, it's the best all-round monitor for using with my Mac.

  • I'd like a better webcam - I'm assuming this will come in the refresh
  • I'd like a larger screen rather than having to have two of them - this won't happen
  • Screen brightness, quality and available resolutions are brilliant for productivity
  • Speakers are ok, better than other monitors and more than good enough if you don't want standalone speakers
  • Connectivity if you have a Mac is good - all the thunderbolt you need. It's crap for anything else though! Apple won't change this
I would definitely be more tempted by a 3rd party monitor if macOS font scaling was better. As it is, a lot of the larger, higher resolution screens out there are useless to me because if you run them at their max resolutions, they're unusable with macOS.

I’d get an Apple monitor instantly if they supported more than 1 input.

As it is right now you have to either unplug its cable to switch between 2 computers or add expensive hubs into the mix.

It is the only thing putting me off from getting one.

Regarding the resolution scaling, there are already multiple monitors that match the resolutions/ppi of both the Studio Display and the Pro XDR, but none have the same build quality, image quality or features like the webcam and decent speakers. But I’m willing to trade those things just to be able to switch between my multiple Macs easily.

Yeap this is what I think will hold me back, I need 2 of them, so really I still wait and see what Apple do with the new one, however I will need to plug it into my works laptop as well. So the current model may be better for that as it doesn’t have Thunderbolt 5 requirements.

Does ASD auto rotate work with the iPhone?
(Pro Display XDR rotates when connected to iPhone 15 pro max)

Also if you have an iPad Pro M1-4 with iPad OS26, I wonder if the ASD autorotates to portrait whilst using extended display?

Haven’t tried, but I’ll give it a go when I get a chance.

Are there different revisions of Studio display? Mine doesn't even have a brightness thing. It is hidden in the button on the upper right screen like the iphone pull down screen.
In system settings under graphics/display it just shows below. No serial #. To find SN, it is under the usb tab.

My friends display has brightness slider in settings and has the serial # listed under "graphics/display"

I guess there's a problem with the USB bus, so that's why you don't see any controls. Do you use original cable? Try different one and other ports.

looks like you changed the color profile (presetting) If you change it back to Apple Display (ip3-600 nits) you should see your brightness setting to be back.

All I can say is, it should look like this. (picture)

No Idea why it would be different in your settings. Not sure if you are able to delete some native profile and if so, if you or someone (accidentally) did delete it.

Try and check this:

Klick on the arrows right to your Color profile - Studio Display.
Klick on preset edit (not sure how it is labeled in US settings)
Check if you see different profiles, no need to checkmark them.
Take a screenshot and post it here.
