so in theory when does this come out and how much will it be? $1,599 is a ridiculous price tag
Not for me - $1500 for me (EDU) and replaces a $1000 27" Thunderbolt display from 2011.

Price on the new Studio Display is inline with current inflation when you think about how much I paid 11 years ago ($1000) for a 27" TB display and still works to this day!

Unfortunately none of the stores near me have the VESA mount in stock. Maybe get the standard and pay the fee later if you don’t want to wait for a CTO.
There is a thread on this forum that talks about having a Genius bar person change out the stand with a VESA mount - might be worth asking your local Apple Store....

For those curious (sorry if someone has already mentioned), but I tried connecting my Studio Display to my work Windows PC laptop, which is a Lenovo X1 Yoga, and it works almost perfectly.

Charges the laptop.
Webcam works fine with the Microsoft default driver, and is picked up as supporting 1080/30fps. Looks fine.
Speakers work fine including volume control (although Windows shows a driver error)
Screen looks great in Windows 10, but it refuses to let me use the maximum resolution of 5120x2880. I can only choose 3840x2160 in both clamshell and extended desktop. This could just be a driver issue though, and it looks fine at this resolution.
Devices connected to the USB-C ports on the display work just fine.

I'm really happy with this monitor. It was important to me to be able to use it with my M1 MBP, and my Windows PC laptop. The early reports suggested that it would be a compromise at best using it with a PC, but thats just not true in my experience so far.
Can you adjust the brightness of the monitor through the computer (windows PC laptop)?

Fair. Hoping for good news eventually, I honestly feel like Apple sort of botched the studio display launch a tiny bit trying to keep that typical mystique instead of being more straightforward about all its pros. This is definitely a product that needs to be worth every dollar and can't afford to be vastly overpriced in the consumer's eye.
I asked but they had no idea! Usual product launch apparently... ?

Same here but major issue not being able to bring brightness down from maximum. How have you got around this?

I just switched over to my MBP, and the monitor appears to stay at whatever brightness the last device set it to be, so it's actually at around 2/3rds of maximum at the moment and seems to be the same brightness as when connected to the Windows laptop. So I guess the workaround is to adjust the brightness to a comfortable level with a Mac before you switch to the Windows PC until theres a better solution.

Would anyone with the tilt adjusted stand be able to measure from the bottom of the stand to the bottom of the monitor? I have a desk shelf and just seeing if I would be able to keep it without the monitor looking too low on it.

I was doing this but it was re-setting brightness to 100%. However, I just updated the firmware on the display (via the Mac software update menu in settings) and it seems to have solved this problem. Phew! Seems to work perfectly with Windows...webcam, mics and speakers all working as intended. Certainly fine for Mac users who also use Windows for work etc.

It honestly looks ridiculous. I'm hoping Apple does something in iOS/iPadOS 16 this year to address this.
The display does run on iOS, so maybe we’re just a few updates away from unlocking additional features like iPad compatibility?

One thing I am unhappy about, is the length of the included Thunderbolt cable. The Thunderbolt port on the monitor is on the right side rear, and I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt ports only on its left side. As I place my MBP to the left of the monitor, the cable is too short to reach. In comparison, the old Apple Cinema Display had a 1.2m cable tethered in the middle of the monitor.

So do you plan to keep the MBP to the left of the monitor and work computer to the right? I’m trying to figure out how to arrange my MBP, work computer, and 2 monitors, 1 of which may be a studio display

What CPU does the laptop have? It needs to have a 10th-gen (“Ice Lake”) or later Intel CPU with DisplayPort 1.4 to be able to do 5120×2880 at 60 Hz.

I've ordered a 2m cable from Amazon. My desk doesn't have the room to spare to move the MBP to the right.

So, how do I turn this thing on?! Mine seems to be DOA…

With the included cable, presumably it’s thunderbolt port on the screen to any of the four on the back of the Mac Studio?

I can hear voiceover so am guessing it’s the display…

Do you regret buying the studio display? It’s a very nice 5K display, but $1,599 is quite a lot for what it can do currently. There are some really nice 4K monitors in the 600-1,000 range.

Tech specs have Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F.
Anyone know if this means it will not turn on under 50°? This has been a HUGE issue for my Cinema Display -- uncalled for in a display of this caliber IMO.

Height looks ok actually - whether sitting or standing at my desk, my eyeline is at about the top of the screen as recommended…
