Personally I have no interest in touchscreen MacBooks. But simply, whoever signed off on notched laptop screens must have been dropped on their head as a baby. And whoever agreed to delete Space Gray on the MacBook Pro should be doing hard jail time.

I love my Space Black, but it's silly for Apple to constrain the colors so much. I'm sure Tim has everything figured out down to the penny that justifies removing a staple color from the lineup.

At some point they'll make a touch screen laptop, everyone will piss their pants with joy and argue about how they were right to wait as long as they did for some inexplicable reason, and iPad sales will plummet...because that's the real reason they've been waiting on a touch screen for so long.
I had a Dell XPS for a while and honestly touch screens on laptops are pointless to at least me. Every time I touch a laptop screen I immediately have to clean off the smudges. Even on my iPad Pro I almost never touch the screen since I have the Magic Keyboard and honestly prefer trackpad navigation.

Should I get a MacBook Air or wait for the new iPad Pro? I use my iPad Pro with keyboard right now when I’m in the field for my consulting business. I also have a MacBook Pro but it’s not as portable so I don’t bring it with me.

Any suggestions?

This is where I found myself before realizing what I actually had was a top heavy pseudo laptop with a minuscule trackpad, no function keys and half an operating system 🤔
You know, that is really not an inaccurate statement. I see the comment after mine asking about a MBA vs an iPad Pro and I have a hard time when I think about that. I have a 16 MBP and I essentially use my iPad Pro like a small ultra-portable laptop. A Macbook Air would make a better ultra portable laptop than my iPad Pro does. Literally the only time I take my iPad Pro off of the Magic Keyboard is if I am passing my iPad to someone else to look at what is on the screen.

And I haven’t checked but I wouldn’t be surprised if the MacBook Air is thinner and lighter.

iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard is a fine combination, but when it becomes its permanent form, it quickly seems a bit pointless.

If your work consists entirely of reading and writing documents, and it sounds like portability is very important, you might actually be fine with the iPad. But if you think you ever might want a real web browser or something like that, you might want the Mac. And even though you're using the iPad with keyboard, the Mac keyboard is *far* better.

For me the answer is Mac 100% always. iPad is way too limited and is basically just a TV and book reader for me at this point. That may not be true for you.

I don't think the MacBook Pro is any less portable than an iPad Pro with keyboard. I have both and the MBP is actually more portable in my opinion. Feels a lot more sturdy when closed up. Unless you really want to be able to take that keyboard off, the extra weight is worth it. And don't forget about the trackpad.

Its definitely personal preference. It still doesn't make sense that they have kept it out as an option.

Half a decade too late for me. Already switched back to laptops. But inexplicably, Apple doesn’t make one I want, so it’s probably time to move on entirely.

The $2000 M3 Pro 14" hits the sweet spot for me. When it goes on sale for about $250 less. Would be nice to get more than 512 SSD for that price though.

I would go back to Windows but for laptops Apple really is better. And Windows is so annoying.

I think it does because the OS has to be designed for it. They saw what happened to Windows and didn't make that mistake. If anything they should go the other direction. iPad Pros have the same base specs as Macs now, with keyboard and mouse support and everything.

I’ll never touch Windows. I’ll likely end up running Ubuntu on a non-Apple.

I guess I’m getting a Samsung (11”).

I’m hoping it will start at 256 GB, for the price of the current 256 GB model (US$899). The 128 GB model would be deleted from the lineup, effectively increasing the base price by $100, but in a not-so-obnoxious way.

The iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard is not light. Honestly, i would not be surprised if it is almost as heavy as my 16" MBP. It was absolutely heavier than my old 14" M1 MBP. I believe that most of the weight comes from the hinge mechanism.

I do like it, so I am not badmouthing the device. I like iPadOS pretty well too. Though Stage Manager is about the most disappointing feature that Apple has ever released. I would prefer a full Windowed mode, I know that the M1 on my iPad Pro could handle it. I like the device well enough that I probably will upgrade it with whatever they release unless the price increases too much. But honestly, the MBA would likely be better for what I use my iPad Pro for. Although I do use my iPad for a second display with my MBP frequently.

Pls release new iPads before April. I need to replace my 2018 iPad Pro A12X 7nm for a 2024 iPad Pro M3 3nm.
I'm going to hit the road in April, and it will kill me if I'm out in "boonies , far away from home, and Apple finally releases the iPad Pro M3. Perhaps Tim can parachute one down to me! :D

Sounds like if I want to upgrade my 5th gen 12.9 then I better get a order in as soon as they are announced because 8.5 million doesn't sound like alot when there are world wide .
While iPads in general outsell the Mac 2:1 and usually more, the iPad Pros, like their Mac counterparts, don’t sell as many. If Apple sells roughly 50 million this year, 8.5 million would be 17%, which seems about right for the Pros.

Not even close. The 16" MacBook Pro is literally 50% heavier. The 14" is about 15% heavier.

682 g - iPad Pro 12.9" WiFi
710 g - Magic Keyboard
407 g - Smart Keyboard Folio

1392 g - Combined weight of iPad Pro 12.9" + Magic Keyboard
1089 g - Combined weight of iPad Pro 12.9" + Smart Keyboard Folio

1600 g - 14" M1 Pro MacBook Pro
2100 g - 16" M1 Pro MacBook Pro

That said, I'd consider getting the Smart Keyboard Folio with my 11" iPad Pro OLED if it continues to be that much lighter than the Magic Keyboard.

"Apple to Produce 8.5 Million OLED iPad Pro Models This Year"

And people thought the iPad lineup was confusing with just 6 models before, wait until they have 8.5 million models!
Oh goody, that must mean iPad pros will finally be coming in a lot of different colors!

In all seriousness, even professional people like colors other than gray.

Surprises me as it feels closer in weight to my MBP than that. Your dedication to proving me wrong is impressive though.
