Well I ordered mine the other day but it's not due to be delivered until around the 20th. To be honest I may just cancel it anyway, I was intending to use it with my US iTunes account to rent TV episodes because I have no desire at all to own and have to manage a large video library all I need to do is watch once and that's it.

Now however with many of the content providers saying that they will not do the $.99 rentals on iTunes even though apple made it out like all rental TV would be $.99 is a bit annoying. I don't want to pay extra for something I don't want to keep and I don't want to F around starting the macbook up purchasing and downloading on the macbook just so I can watch a TV episode. I have an old apple TV but of course they won't do something simple like enable a rent button for TV episodes.

So my question to people in the UK who have ordered the new version is are you intending to use a US itunes account or are you happy to just buy everything with a UK account on your computer first rather than just renting from the living room?

Can't speak for anyone else but I'm getting the new Apple TV for the sole purpose of streaming my existing iTunes library - music, movies and TV shows - into the living room. I may take advantage of rental from time to time and it is possible that I may view other content I have ;) assuming compatibility (or conversion is possible).

That's a fair point from that perspective, do you have one of the old apple tv's at the moment and if so how will the new one stream a current itunes library any better?

My money has been taken too!

Just showed up on the CC statement this morning dated 28/9 which is when it shipped.

Almost certain that it will arrive Monday as forecast - just a bit curious which way it will come. TNT have an Edinburgh hub so if it arrives there sometime today and it is possible to collect....... :D Has anyone collected a parcel from the hub prior to delivery before?

I usually compare DVD prices with iTunes prices and buy accordingly. Anything I buy from iTunes I buy on my computer and stream from it, but it's an iMac thats always on. I'm not too bothered about not having rentals though, my (nearly) basic Sky package gives me the shows and sports I need, my main interest in the new :apple:TV was AirPlay.

I think the appeal of show rentals will be lower in the UK as we don't pay the US cable prices for basic TV offerings.

No - I don't have an old one - too expensive mainly. The new one hits the spot exactly because it does exactly what it needs to at a very reasonable price - what I would term a 'sweet spot' where style, capability and price converge.

Still in transit from Holland....

How is it possible that after leaving the Arnhem Hub at 16:16 yesterday, it still hasn't arrived in the UK yet. Thats almost 24 hours for a 3 hour flight... this is getting ridiculous now :(

is it definitely a flight? not a truck?

Well my email from Apple told me it was being sent by courier... so I would have hoped that meant as fast as possible. I'd be surprised if TNT trucked stuff across Europe - tho judging by previous delays maybe they trucked it from China too lol

maybe this is why they quoted Monday. :p

they knew it would be slow... shipped by Chinese Junk and now it's on the back of a donkey.

How do you know it left Arnhem at that time - my take on TNT updates is that the time given is essentially a check in?

true.. they are likely the check in times, however even if they were checked in at 1620 yesterday... that's still plenty of time to put them on a plane over to the UK.. or is there just one plane a day??

So if we go by that then our packages have been sat in the hub in NL for nearly 24 hours. Which ever way, TNT are really going at a snail pace to get these goods to us

just had a quick search on google, and looks like we're not the only ones pissed off with apple's shipping. theres forum posts going back to 2008 with people talking about the exact same thing... slow delivery, rubbish tracking on the exact same system, with the exact same update messages.

im just shocked that a company like apple would not just have such a poor delivery service, but let it carry on for years...

I agree.. though they will meet their ETA times so I guess it doesn't really matter..

However I bet if they pulled their finger out a little they could have delivered them yesterday.

well as the device is only £99 there isn't much margin for building the device, shipping it and profit. So I guess they picked the cheapest carriers they could find.

Yep we can't official complain as they will likely meet the 4th Oct delivery date. Though I am currently contacting Apple to see if I can get my iMac which ships in the 2 business days with a different courier company! I don't think TNT are really that bothered about any sort of timely delivery!

Yep they probably could. Mine was in Hong Kong almost for 3 days

i have a MBP which shipped a day before my apple tv did and i still haven't got that...

I think every Mac computer I've ordered from the online store has been delivered by UPS.

its just so frustrating. i wouldn't mind if they took 7 days to build the damn machine. but taking 7 days to ship a box in todays world is crazy...

i just got the billing doc too, but it doesnt mean anything. i got the billing doc for my MBP on monday...
