Seems to me that a lot of people out there still don't know much about Apple TV. Shouldn't Apple give it its own Navigation button on their website now? I think it's ready to be shown to the world!
wow... as if this thread hasn't been derailed enough already we're going to resurrect the age-old "fair use" discussion....
- how do sources work now? When you select my movies do you have to select a source?
You select "Shared Movies" instead of "My Movies"
- What if it is only connected to one computer? Do you still need to select a source?
If you are connected for syncing to one computer, you will now see all the iTunes content in ATV in a unified list. Synced stuff (cached) will play back from the local hard drive, streamed stuff from the host. If you quit iTunes or shut down the server, only the synced content will show on ATV.
- People are talking about apple tv showing up in the speaker list to stream from itunes. Can you stream to multiple apple tv's at once? That would be great for parties.
Yes
- is the fastforward and rewind performance improved?
Yes
Kevin
Don't try and read too much into that.
Kevin
In Apple TV Take 2, will we finally be able to manually synch -- i.e. upload video to the ATV and leave it there without maintaining it in our iTunes libraries? That was what most annoyed me about Take 1.
(All apologies if this has been asked and answered. I couldn't find it.)
Can someone educate me on what's so cool about it other than to charge me for entertainment that I already pay for with Cable/Satellite?
Kevin, in what order are the Podcast favorites organized in? At first glance, they seem to be in order of addition. Shouldn't it be in order of most viewed?
Why would they use MKV when their own MOV container can do exactly what they need?
Thanks, keep us updated! Dying to know if Handbrake encoded files will be 5.1![]()
Anyway, all macs are now 'N' the Airport Extreme is now 'N', so the next item to become 'N' will obviously be the Express.
Darn it. That makes me disappointed. I would have much rather had it count up by episode. Too bad there's not an option to just flip it.
- Can music videos (or anything else) be played continuously from a playlist?
- Can music or movies be made to repeat?
- Can a playlist or category be played using Shuffle?
No.
I don't believe so.
Not sure.
Kevin/imlucid:
It appears from your signature URL you were involved with AppleTV at the start... Were you also involved with Take 2, or can you not say?
I'm just curious if all the feedback, complaining and so on around these boards has been making its way back to Apple vis-a-vis you...

Thanks very much for answering. Any insight as to why, or are these things that may be in the pipeline, or are they considered non-issues?
Music Video Playlists would be awesome, a lot of people I know who have seen myTV say that it is the one thing that would tip them over the edge to buying one.
I know, I spend quite a bit of time on their forums/IRC channels performing countless test encodes and realizing that at the rate they continue to improve the software, my DVD collection will never be fully ripped (I've restarted more times than I can count).maybe - but regardless if they ARE using .mov that's actually worse. The people over had Handbrake have already said that if its uses a .mov format then Handbrake may not beable to support it - I guess the actual formatting of .mov files isn't well documented. Note that none of Handbrake's files are .mov files. At least with an .mkv we might be able to make files with HB and trick iTunes into passing them on.
go up to the guys I work with and just had lunch with and ask, "You had the beef noodle soup like me, right? Are you feeling OK?" Then, I run home and load up the AppleTV Take 2 update!

On their forums, someone does mention being able to take a H.264 video and AC3 audio stream into Quicktime Pro, exporting to .mov and having it work.
