What would happen if I keep buying (I'm not really into renting) movies over the next several years and I fill up the hard drive on the AppleTV. Then what?

Also, how do you backup purchased movies on an AppleTV. Let's say it dies. How do you move the movies from one AppleTV to another? I don't want to lose all my purchased movies.

Didn't Steve say something like "the whole thing is centered around the movie rental experience" in the keynote? Why are you surprised?

I don't think it is that people are surprised, I just think people are generally annoyed.

As it stands the AppleTV has the potential to be a fantastic device, OK we don't have any recording ability but people accept that.

Now many people have a large collection of Movies and TV Shows ripped to their mac and it is their content which they want to play on their TV, they don't want it to be a hassle and have to navigate around getting stuff from the store.

What Apple should do is say, OK here you are, you have a load of content that you can use as you like, oh and we have a load of content that you can download too, so take your pick.

Stuff like the way TV shows are organised is just plain stupid. Come on, how hard can it be to sort out TV Shows properly. It is almost as if they are making it deliberately hard to navigate so you just download a show instead.

Sorry, not good enough Apple :(

My also also wants to be able to do email and surf the web on the TV. Do I have to hook up my iMac to it with another HDMI cable for this to happen?

Or is the Mac Mini going to get the AppleTV interface and let us do all the AppleTV stuff (Front Row is NOT the same) plus surf and e-mail?

I'm not sure what issues you are running into. I have TV shows from a number of sources and they all show up fine.

Well, that is a good point. It would be great to not buy or rent DVD's. However, most people have a collection of DVD's they've purchased. Again, I would find myself having to switch over to the DVD player to watch those, and back to Apple TV to watch content there and over to Satellite to watch it. I just wish the Apple TV could replace my Tivo, and it had a DVD player built in.

You mean like switching from VHS to DVD? kind of strange how technology works....

Remote disc

I'd love to see Remote disc added to the Apple TV.

Watch DVDs from your MBP in the next room...

Cool..

Please explain how you added the url ?

If you listen to a streaming station on live365 it adds itself as a track in itunes. Also I just checked and you can even drag ones over from the "Radio" section of iTunes... Surprised its not a menu option.

Seriously? "The Border?" I would have nominated that for worst new show of the year myself.

I guess if I am being a bit bitter here it's because your comment sent me rushing over to iTunes to look for the "New Canadian shows" and all I see are more US ones. If you go by percentages, the Canadian content just went *down* again with these new additions.

There are tons of fantastic Canadian shows, but they aren't on iTunes. Interestingly, most of the best Canadian stuff is from CBC, but while they have CBC dreck like "Dragon's Den" showing up, almost none of the good shows do.

Mystifying.

Did you miss Air farce, 22min's ?

Okay, somebody needs to try this when they've finished watching an HD rental on the AppleTV:

1) Restart the movie
2) Pause it
3) Let the 24 hour time limit elapse
4) Unpause the movie and see if it lets you finish watching it.

Question: Can an :apple:TV be hooked up to a Computer DVi Monitor using a HDMI to DVI Cable ? If so I might buy 2 more of :apple:TV's (I have 1 AppleTV hooked up to a HD Television right now.)

Interesting that "The Brave One" is available for rent on Apple TV store, but not yet available through iTunes. It would really be great if they could start releasing movies the same day the DVD comes out. Hopefully this will start to happen over the next few months... love the new Apple TV.

Steve's keynote said rentals WILL NOT be released the same time they are available to purchase or rent from stores. They will be available 30 days after commercial release. Apparently this is the same limitation other online content providers so it is a limitation imposed by the movie producers.

son of a.....I can't believe they added AirTunes to this release, and yet I I still can't listen to movie through my Express when using Front Row. Damn you Leopard.

Another discovery I hadn't seen mentioned -

Streaming Radio Stations now work!!!!!

Just put them into a playlist - I'm listening to one from Live365 now.

Really!!!? Awesome? Man, I can't wait to get home.

Purchases are all copied back to your mac or PC when you sync.

Probably to the first and doubtful to the second.

Do they show up in order, or reversed order?

<sarcasm>Gee, I don't see how iTunes's handling of such situations provides ANY useful information to answer your questions...</sarcasm>

I think the point was the The Brave One came out on DVD in the last week. We may be able to depend on variances to Steve words going forward.

oh the menu system sucks...plain and simple...

I dont rent movies and I dont plan to....I have over 300+ movies...and a big long list...how nice...try to find a movie in that list...grrrr:mad:

how hard is it to put a search function there?? huh???

its all about RENT RENT RENT ...MONEY MONEY MONEY....
every store function is at the top, and my movies section is "almost" hidden...

btw..funny thing is that..I already have all of their HD movies in my library..
lol...they need to put 1000+ HD movies there to get me interested...

anyway, new menu system sucks plain and simple....
thats my opinion....

Sorry dude but get with the times. DVDs are 480p. Upconverted DVDs look like crap. You are satisfied watching that? Call me an HD snob but if it's not in HD I won't watch it. I bought the AppleTV for the purpose of renting HD content. I have a PS3 to watch blu-ray movies. Time to dump your 300 movie collection and upgrade to HD.

Is it just me or are the words WAY too small for standard def?

I installed it and can't read a lot when viewing movies and stuff. Is there a way to make the text bigger?

I know it's just my TV (20" Flat screen), but you'd think Apple would make it more compatible with older smaller screens that support the ATV as well.

The local content...

I have heard Apple TV owners say in the past that if they embed the cover art into the movie(thru 3rd party software) that it would show up in the as a poster in the menu views. Is that no longer true?

Remote

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure if I am mistaken - is it so that I am supposed to be able to pause, skip etc. with the Apple Remote and the Apple TV when I'm controlling the music from iTunes, i.e. when I use iTunes on my computer and choose "Apple TV" from the speaker selector?

Cause that doesn't seem to be the case with me. The song plays, the cover art shows up and everything, but when I press the remote, nothing happens. Except, the white led on the Apple TV actually flashes as the box receives the signal from the remote.

I've also tried to disable the firewall and change the options in "sharing".

I'm not sure what might be the problem, or if I am mistaken..

Well if you truly have EVERY movie that's currently in HD on AppleTV, which is a VERY random assortment of movies (2010 but not 2001?) then you are obviously not representative of the average user.

But I'm calling shenanigans: no way your 300+ movies just happens to include every movie that's currently up.

cant you read?

I said I already have every movie they offer in HD....
