My guess is that they will put an A16 in it.

The A16 satisfies the criteria of "faster chip than A15" and "cheap to manufacture" since it's a 4nm/N4P chip (as far as I know, N3B and N3E used for A17/M3 and M4, respectively, are significantly more expensive). This might allow them to hit the $99 price target.

IMO Apple should make a wireless camera accessory for the Apple TV, as a wired/built-in camera may not make sense for people who have the Apple TV box in an A/V closet or some other location away from the actual display device. (Yes, Continuity Camera exists, but what if you want to use your iPhone while on a call?)

A16 doesn't support AV1 Hardware decoding.

Regardless of when it is unveiled, the next Apple TV is rumored to feature a faster processor than the current A15 Bionic chip,
And that’s whats holding back Apple right now on releasing the new Apple TV, from what I heard from industrial chatter. A16 is not powerful enough, or A17. Apple wants to beef up the Apple TV to be next console gaming, and they are going as far as putting M4 chip into the Apple TV for insane gaming performance. And they want to put higher storage capacity, as much as 1 or 2 TB for games. (Although it will likely support external storage if it comes to that for expansion)

Honestly, the Apple TV 4K is kinda perfect as is. Sure, they could lower the price but I didn't feel like price was an issue. It sooooo much better than Fire TV and their absolutely ad-filled interface whenever you turn it on. People only think the Apple TV costs too much because they are used to cheap crap like Google TV and Fire TV. They don't know how nice Apple TV is. I like to use mine for Mirroring my MacBook Screen or using it as a second display. Works super well!

Only feature I’d wish for is ability to download 4K movie files and play from local storage so I don’t have to worry about my internet being down for a moment or 2 while watching my movies.

It’d also be nice if Apple TV could support more than 1 remote. I guess these devices have latent abilities to play 3D movies, but with barely any 3D TVs out there, then that ability is just not enabled for now?

My guess: it will look almost the same as the current Apple TV but will use an A17 SoC with 8 GB of LPDDR RAM and also add full WiFi 7 support using a new Broadcom WiFi radio modem chip.

I dont know what more they can do outside of adding a USB C port to enable users to hook up a webcam for facetime calls. The current implimentation of FaceTime on Apple Tv is a bad joke. You got to mount your phone or connect an Ipad (It doesn't even work with a mac) and its just messy at best.

The simple solution would be for them to put out a new one with a USB C port so you can buy an overpriced seperate Camera and just have it all work like that.

Short of that, idk what you can do with the AppleTV anymore hardware wise.

What you can do, but Apple so far seems reluctant to go down that path, is improve the signal quality.
Consider any case where you are playing sub-optimal video. Could be DVD quality (needs upscaling and HDR). Could be NTSC quality (also needs color handling and sharpening). Could be video where some idiot has transferred fields into frames, so very visible interlace artifacts. Also the issue of smoothing temporally – detect timing inconsistencies (25fps dropped to 24fps, bad 3:2 pullup, etc) and upscale everything to 120fps.

There's a world of possibilities like this.
Yes, yes, we know that YOU are a cinephile elitist who only watches 4K HDR masters in perfect quality and has no need of the above.
But for the rest of us who do actually watch a variety of stuff, there is a real need for this sort of improvement.

TV's claim to offer this functionality, and kinda sorta do, but not at the quality level, and automatically kicking in when appropriate, that Apple is capable of on their hardware.

Can't see it being sub $100 then

Please Apple, for the love of Steve, *please* enable the next Apple TV to pass extended resolution audio from both Mac and Apple Music. As the proud owner of the last two generations of Apple TV, I would gladly buy another one for hi-res audio. C'mon, take my money!

I have zero reason for an update. I'm running 5 of them on all my TV's as my main interface. Zero issues. A camera? not happening as I have them all hidden and out of sight and no way do I have a desire to install exposed.
Does Apple TV and the remote still react properly even though it’s hidden? I want to put it in my sideboard but I’m afraid that the remote won’t work as expected

Apple is still supporting 2015 Apple TV yet not Macs, iPhone & iPad made after 2015? o_O

the 1st gen 4k system still works very smooth for just 4k streaming and I can’t really tell any difference from my 3rd gen 4k

This is good data to have
Prob why I haven't been compelled to upgrade my 1st gen 4K
Plays 4k content great -- Dolby Vision, all of it

Hugely a niche request, but I’d also love to customize the output resolution. I have a 2:35:1 screen and it would be great to display the Home Screen menu that way.

I’d like to see the following in a future version:
1) Option for a smaller stick form factor
2) Ideally self powered/USB powered to eliminate need to run an additional power cable
3) Plastic/more robust remote
4) Integrated aerial/live TV interface
5) Netflix agreement to integrate into recommendations and Up Next
6) Option for a larger form factor with integrated video conferencing camera and sound bar
