I have a paid off XS Max from the IUP. I wonder if I have to enroll as new now? Since I'm not "upgrading" since I own the XS Max outright now. Guess we'll know more in a couple of weeks. I'm going for 12 Pro Max Pacific Blue 256 hopefully in IUP (just in case I want to swap next year).
I’m going to reserve my upgrade slot and then pay mine off. I don’t wanna give my phone back to Apple as I can make £200 selling it on instead

If you paid it off that means you are no longer in the program, so you would have to re enroll.

It’s not live yet. We don’t know if it will ever be live this year.
iPhone page on apple.com says this:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get ready for iPhone pre‑order with the Apple Store app.
Pre-order starts on 10.16. But you can get all the prep work out of the way now so you can save time at pre‑order.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So prob in next few hrs or a day, they will enable pre-approval process for IUP 🤞

Yep, every year (I've been in iUP since it started) - we get an email asking us to upgrade. It's coming.

That not for the pro max series

It will happen. Probably later today.

Alright, here's my dilemma and it is strongly related to OP's question:

I am closing on a house on October 22nd. I do not want any more hard credit inquiries to pop up last minute and delay my closing. I am currently enrolled in iUP. Will they do a hard credit pull when I reserve the phone on the 16th, or when I perform the upgrade in-store on the 23rd? Or never? I do not believe that a hard pull was ever performed last year when I upgraded, but I'm looking for someone with a better memory than me.

If I remember correctly, once your in the program, its a soft pull every year. I do not recall seeing a hard pull on my report after I re upped last year

Folks, don't bother asking Apple about this. Their official line is, "They [cuz, you know, there is Apple and then there is the REAL Apple] will update you once a determination is made." As usual, at no time is Apple aware what Apple is doing.

I think (and hope) that you are right. I just read something about them 'reserving the right to perform a hard pull every year' but as long as you have positive payment history within the program they're unlikely to actually do it -> generally a soft pull every upgrade.

Won’t be a hard credit pull if you are already enrolled.

If you are already enrolled it won’t be a hard pull. Yes they reserve the right, but it’s not happening.

  • Through Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program, customers in the US can get iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max with the protection of AppleCare+, choose their carrier (no multiyear service contract required), and have the opportunity to upgrade to a new iPhone every year. The iPhone Upgrade Program is available for iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max at apple.com and Apple Store locations in the US with monthly payments starting at $49.91.
  • Customers in the US choosing to pay with Apple Card Monthly Installments or joining or upgrading through the iPhone Upgrade Program can use the Apple Store app on their iPhone to get ready for iPhone 12 Pro pre-order until 9 p.m. PDT on Thursday, October 15. From Tuesday, November 3, customers can get ready for iPhone 12 Pro Max pre-order until 9 p.m. PST on Thursday, November 5.

I just posted on another thread but does anyone know if I can payoff my current phone that is on IUP so I can keep it and then use the IUP to purchase a new phone? If so, how do I pay it off?

I will but accessories are available on Amazon
Accessories has no relevant to when the phone is ready for pre-order. Since Apple announced all 4 today, case makers can start selling cases as of today so you certainly can order one on amazon prime day (I think it started today) and then when you get the pro max, you have the case ready.
