This will be my 3rd upgrade in the program, and they have hard pulled our credit the last two times. We’re getting the Pro Max again, so we will wait to do pre-approval. Who knows.
I only got hard pull once when I got the 7 Plus and every year after that has been a soft pull for me. Now I've read some who only got hard pull once at the start got hard pulls this time. So if the chances of getting a hard pull is high, then I'll just end the iup and just pay up the 11 Pro max and sell it.

Right. This is a good reminder. But since the ProMax is not avail for pre-order until later, and overall the launch is pushed, I guess we lose out on the additional months paid past 12. And then next year, we won't be able to upgrade until Oct/Nov again? So the iPhone launch cycle is now Oct/Nov? Otherwise, if it goes back to Sept launch, many of us will have to wait until 12 mo have been paid on the 12. boooooo.
I believe something similar happened when the iPhone X launched. I cannot remember what the resolution was, but I think they bumped everyone up the 2 months.

I pretend to check out and it says “remind me” at the bottom in regards to the 12 Pro Max
Yes because the Pro Max will not be ready for preorder until Nov 6. You can get preapproved now for the Pro but not the Pro Max. Don’t bother calling Apple, they have no clue, I had to figure that out myself.

Still wondering if we get credit for the extra payments, especially on the Pro Max.

Anyone seeing verification failures from Verizon? I expect it’s everyone hitting it at the same time as the preapproval emails just came out...

ETA: Tried again and figured out I had to use the main number on the account, d’oh. It didn’t say that but it did say main number’s zip code. Sigh.

Not sure why this is a thing, they always only do preapprovals the week (few days) before preorder day. Not three weeks before.

I think there was a 1 month grace period on the upgrade. I just decided to get the Pro instead of the ProMax. I'm trying to go smaller :).

Side Note for the rolling convo in the thread about it: No hard pull on my credit for this year. I actually have never Citizens One do a hard pull since I enrolled in IUP in year 2.

Got mine pre-approved. Can’t wait for my new phone!

unless your last payment period is near the renewal for the next phone and the return of phone your are upgrading from, the extra payment after 1 year mark won’t be refunded. I’d think it as my old phone looses value over time so I’m not too concerned about it

Well the issue is, of course, if new ones come out next September, what do we do, pay extra then? Wonderful. If we are in Oct/Nov forever, no biggie. Lol.

This is interesting. Seems like a lot of first years are getting hit with a pull, but others are not. My fiancee is a year 2 and will be doing the pre-approval in a little bit. It does make sense that after 5 years they want to recheck my credit, but I just wish they were more upfront about it.

Anyone else unable to select the upgrade program while also trading in a device? Wonder why that would be?

So I always do this through Best Buy every year. I am trying to do it through the Apple store app and why do they make you get AppleCare+? Any way around this at checkout?

Also if I do this through Apple do I have to call Sprint/T-mobile for them to send me a return kit?

Thanks in advance for my newb questions!!!

It's bundled into the price of the iPhone over 24 months. No way to avoid it in the iUP, closest is doing Apple Card installment financing over 24 months.

I’m getting the same issue. What if I want to transfer my non-primary number to the new phone? Also did they send a text message to the primary number? (My gfs mom owns the primary acct...don’t want to mess with her device!)

The hard pull seems arbitrary if everyone has paid open time every month. It's mandatory auto-pay so I can't imagine why it wouldn't be. But yeah, I have never had a hard pull on my credit for IUP. Come to think of it, I didn't have it in my first year either. And the account isn't listed in my credit report as a loan or debt to pay.

I had to go through the path of going to the page where you enroll in the Apple Upgrade Program. It will refer you to the Apple Store app on your phone to "prepare for preorder". I was wondering if at the end I could apply a trade-in value for my XS Max so I reached out to customer service. Here is a transcript of the conversation:

So based on that, you should be able to apply a trade-in value. I haven't completed the "prepare for pre-order" because I am still waffling between 12 Pro and 12, but am hoping there is a trade in option to apply at the end of the process. If not, worse case scenario I sell it on Swappa.

yeah, I don’t think so. They ask you the trade in question up front. the support person doesn’t exactly instill confidence, in my opinion.

I didn’t bother to upgrade last year for the 11 Pro even though I was in the iUP. It’s paid off now, and I’m not even sure I’ll upgrade next year but I’d like the option.

If I am enrolled through Sprint in a yearly upgrade program with my iPhone do I qualify for the apple yearly upgrade if I have made my 12 payments?

Can't risk the hard pull on my credit nine days before mortgage closing. I'm probably going to be ordering the Pro on Friday with 0% payments on my Apple Card, and buying out my 11 Pro Max to end my iUP enrollment.

You may pay extra monthly or two to get an early upgrade. I had mine upgraded early when apple released first red phone with iPhone 7 in mid cycle refresh, I’ve paid 4 month worth in advance to have my phone upgraded from black 7 to red 7 plus 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyone else getting can’t connect to wireless carrier for Verizon. I’ve got two phones, one went through fine and the next one is giving me the above message.

I think that assistant is a computer. I tried to do a trade-in last year on IUP and was told it wasn’t available so I just did it separate and got a credit to my card for the trade-in. It really messed me up last year so don’t fill out the trade-in on your IUP order.

Figured it out. Looks like on the second phone you still need to use the primary account phone number and not the wireless number of the phone.

How did you get the credit to your credit card afterwards as opposed to in a gift card?
