I hope there's a way to charge it while watching, or I'll never be able to finish enough cat video compilations on YouTube to be happy. 😿
It's likely, or Apple will sell a cable that you can plug into a power source. Battery pack when needing to be mobile and tethered when not.

The doom prophets have always declared new Apple products and innovations failures based on their egos and ignorance. So, nay sayer, what’s your track record for prediction? Here’s a thought. How about you wait until you know the facts before rendering judgement?

I swear some people just join this site to be snarky and critical. That’s a weird way to live.

Is it your contention that Apple can’t fail? Because that’s a far more absurd proposition than the idea that Vision Pro is headed for failure.

I guess the question is whether you'd want anything like this instead of monitors in the long run, rather than in addition to.

I could see using this for specific things, but having to wear it every day whenever I want to use the computer just sounds tedious.
Yeah I know and I feel like opitcally it would be a bit rude if others were trying to talk to me, even with the weird eye thing.

I would really love to try out the theatre mode though!

Obviously, from this same extreme pessimism in every thread about Vpro, THIS is not a product for you. We get it. Thank you for confirming how you see no possible use for it. If we all happen to be you too, we feel exactly the same. Else, some of us- who are not you- may feel differently about the potential of the "ScubaVisionProMax." I for one look forward to trying one in person vs. passing judgement on mostly vapor and seeing for myself. That may lead me to a view somewhat similar to your own or it may lead me somewhere else. To be determined... soon.
You don't get it. Overwhelmingly in the market, consumers have rejected VR/AR. The only use cases I have heard are gaming or its a desktop.....

I already have a PS5 and Apple is not at all a gaming friendly company. They just got RE4R, whoop dee doo....where's COD? Where's The Last of Us? Where is Halo?

And I already have an iPad or laptop or desktop that is far more convenient and can be transported without having to worry about putting something on my head. DO you not understand that your hands and arms will get tired from moving them around for hours? Do you not even think about the actual MO?

Consumers aren't interested beyond children playing video games....and a controller or mice and keyboard are far superior I/O.

So, why are we having to wait years for a new iMac Pro or 24" iMac so that 7% of people can put on a scuba headset?

Single virtual Mac display. There isn’t enough bandwidth to push multiple 4K screens over WiFi. It’s basically AirPlay.

Of course, that might be qualified by single "active" display: the one you're looking at being the active one. For example, look at the Mission Control setup on Mac. Set up 10 screens if you wish with apps on all 10 screens. You can only really focus on one at a time, so have the active computing going on that one screen. In the background, Mac is processing things happening on those other screens but your eyes aren't seeing things happen there because you are currently focused on- say- screen #3 of 10.

Now shift to screen #7 of 10. Whatever has been running on that screen updates the screen to current and now actively processes on that screen. #3 is frozen (still image) of where you left it until you switch back to it. OR maybe in moments of downtime when you are doing nothing on screen #7 but just reading something on the screen like an email, other screens in the periphery get still image updates of what they would look like if you were focused on them now.

I believe this is as plausible as how Mission Control works now. It doesn't require active 4K streams to every screen but only the one on which Vpro user is currently focused. All others could be like off-screen Mission Control screens are on any Mac.

Will it actually be this way? Who knows? But it seems like it COULD work like this if Apple chose to make it so. Open iPad apps basically update their screens when you switch to them. This might just have more space to show those static screenshots in the periphery while one looks at the main screen.

Again, how does this replace a device? I am only seeing ANOTHER device to add....it's not portable....it has a laughable battery life with a battery that is bulky and HARDWIRED to the machine.....and has only a niche functionality that at the end of the day a vast majority have no need for.

It's not intended to replace your computer for everyday/everyminute use.

It's for periodic AR/VR applications. With the focus on AR, which seems many here steadfastly insist on not taking the time to understand what that is.

Exactly. Yet, we see dozens of people who continue to imagine “infinite screens in infinite sizes.” Sorry, y’all. Vision Pro can’t do that.
It may not be able to do it with first party software, but 3rd party should be able to do it. I’ve done it on my quest 2 with a few different apps. Up to 6 monitors.

You don't get it: everyone else is not you. Some of us are genuinely interested in this new thing from Apple. You are welcomed to your opinion. It is not everyone else's because you feel that way.

Countless threads are packed with an oldie but goodie: Apple may not be first, but they work on it and get it right. So I'll set aside all of the other "firsts" (seconds, thirds, fourths, etc) out there and see if this proves that out again... or doesn't.

My guts say there is something here. If it does one simple thing I seek well, that's good enough for me. And that has nothing to do with video games. And I too already have a laptop, desktop and iPad... and still see potential here.

Is it just me or did Apple hide the battery cable from all the Vision Pro videos that came out before today? Now all the same product videos I’m seeing on the Apple site for Vision Pro now clearly show the battery cable attached to the headset. In the “film” on the product page for example, the whole video shows the cable attached. Am I remembering it wrong? Was the cable always shown in the videos when it was first announced?

There's a rich history here of doomsaying and predicting Apple products will flop. iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch, AirPods, etc. Apparently that's viewed as establishing forum cred.

I am 99% sure they showed the cable in the original announcement

Because Timmy needs a legacy product before he retires.

To be fair the first iPhone had pretty horrendous battery life. It wasn't until the iPhone 4 were things were acceptable. Still, I agree with you. 2.5-hour battery life ONLY with video playback (the most efficient thing you can do)? Pretty bad.
USE CASE and MO. Dear God, quit avoiding the OBVIOUS!

You have to move your hands around.....my hands rest on a desk when I type on a keyboard and laying back on a couch will do the same thing on my phone. The Vision Pro will require your arms and hands to move frequently and often. Think of all the things you do on the device!

Are you gonna wanna type for hours on an imaginary keyboard? What's the error rate? Sure that gets fixed....but then people will be like "I wanna add a keyboard to my VisionPro!" And then we get StageManager on the VisionPro and you think "What was the point of making a VR/AR headset if you're just gonna pair a keyboard to it??????"

I can buy a top of the line LED 24" monitor to attach to the iMac I bought and it's about the same price.....

Thanks.
Though it still doesn't answer my question how do I manually do things while using my Mac.

All I see is a guy looking at multiple screens with his hands still on the desk.

And no, I am not going to be drawing and painting with my eyes.
That requires an immense amount of precision.
A keyboard and mouse, just like you do now.
VP supports both.

Software isn’t the issue. Wireless bandwidth is.
Tell me you haven’t used a VR headset for monitors without tell me.

I have used a Quest 2 with software to mirror my display, and create 5 additional screens in VR for years. If Apple is unable to do that, that’s a software limitation. Sure the resolution may be limited, but it’s very possible.

It’s not a hardware limitation. There will be 3rd party apps that support that feature at some point in time. It’s ridiculous to think they won’t.

Will people be wearing these for more than 2.5 hours without a break? I'm not saying 2.5 hours is good, but we have to acknowledge battery limitations and Apple's goal of making you feel as immersed as possible without having a heavy battery attached to you.

Then they will be happy to know that for a lot of things you can operate VP sitting with your hands by your side, no waving required. People really should check to see if some of the things they are complaining about actually require complaining about.

PS. Constantly looking down at your phone is ergonomically bad.
"Come on man, ughhhh, you're so stupid and lame, man. Staring at a laptop or monitor for hours is ergonomically bad for you."

Says the guy typing on a smartphone or laptop or monitor.....

VR/AR is NOT SELLING.....millions per year is not a market. It's a niche. They will need TENS of MILLIONS to remotely challenge the smartphone's dominance. And I can't name anyone who knows VR/AR who would wanna use one. It makes no sense. You can't share what you're seeing with others, so it is inherently selfish, solipsistic, and narcissistic. "You can share what you are seeing to a TV!"

THEN BUY A TV!!!!!!!!

It is absolutely a hardware limitation. Can you plug in infinite monitors in any size to your laptop? Nope. So what makes you think Vision Pro can do it? And “resolution may be limited”? That single sentence eliminates the device as a platform for my whole profession (graphic artist.)

It’s a mistake to casually imagine that this device can do impossible things.

What a weird thing to write…

Speaking for myself:

iPhone?
I was in the queue to buy one of the very first ones on release. It was winter in the UK and I queued ice cold to get my hands on one.
Never doubted its success.

iPad.
Didn't queue, but started at Gen 1.

Trashcan Mac "Pro"?
I knew it was going to fail. Hard.
It did.

Watch?
Got a few generations, but returned them all.
Right now, as I type this out on my Mac I've got an Ultra 2 strapped to my wrist.
The Apple Watch finally delivered after quite a few generations.

Apple Vision Pro?
I am not convinced.
Maybe in a decade or so. But I guess that makes me a hater and a naysayer. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Edit:

Oops!
I forgot my PowerBook 140, 1st gen Bondi Blue iMac… 1st gen iPods… yeah those were the days.

Oh hell, and I forgot my Newton.
Alas, that never did take off. Pity.

Okay, fine.

But don't get upset when no one buys it and the product languishes.
