The costs just go up and up for this stupid contraption, watching all the footage of or in the event I just think it looks absolutely stupid. Really really stupid. It STILL disconnects you from others around you despite what Apple have done and say. It is a barrier between you and the outside world still. And you look utterly stupid with it on.

Also they didn't seem to advertise anything 'Pro' in it at all! It was all multimedia use.

Hopefully the holders for these glasses come in a way that you can insert your own custom glasses in there…
"Each lens will be individually customized to the user's requirements and will come with an apple-designed custom chip to ensure it's correctly paired with the headset."

The battery life is only 2 hours, which is not that good. In actual usage we will most likely get less than that.

The battery is connected separately, which makes it lighter on the head but it is also cumbersome and awkward.

All of this will need to be improved. So if I get this at all I will wait for 2nd or 3rd gen.
You can be cutting edge and enjoy technology early, or wait and get it cheaper. Your call.

This doesn’t need a battery. If you’re sitting on the couch, you can directly connect to outlets.

Yes, of course it will get better in the future. In 2030, we’ll be laughing at how archaic this is. But if you want it in 2024, this is the best you can get.

I think in 2030 we'll be laughing about 'hey remember those stupid AR things Apple tried to sell and failed miserably to do so?'.

So? Who cares? This, and all AR/VR devices are sold to people who don’t care how it looks.

Wrong, all other headsets are sold as video game devices or professional work use instruments, you use them for specific tasks, not one is sold as a home use or general use item just like your phone, that's EXACTLY how Apple is advertising this thing, it will fail in its sales. Even for a first gen product. It looks ridiculous and disconnects you from everyone else.
They think you'll walk around with this thing on shopping etc. I think you and Apple will soon realise no body will want this, when all it does is the same as their phone, whilst making you look stupid.

Given that prescription lenses aren’t cheap even with vision insurance there isn’t any way these will be cheap as a non-medical non-necessity. My guess is $500 minimum. I’ll be curious if they will be super high index and how they will handle the distortions lenses have and issues with led lighting.

Contact lenses?
Contact lenses don't help about half of my vision problems. If I wore them I'd still have to wear glasses on top

Did you expect Apple to give you bespoke prescription lenses for free? My glasses aren't free, I wouldn't expect these to be either.

For a 3500 dollar device yes! Is that too hard to imagine?

Apple is becoming a “healthy and wealthy” company.

I remember SJ’s Apple bending over backwards to get Accessibility built in to OS X for people with fine motor disabilities.

That would be impossible with this product.
I was thinking that, too, while watching the people in the examples gesturing, carefully, precisely, moving their fingers or their hands or arms "just so...." Out here in the real world there are many fine-motor movements which many people cannot perform due to various disabilities. Looks as though they'll be locked out of using this technology.

They're not the only ones. Obviously someone who is severely visually impaired -- i.e., totally blind or close to it also is not going to be able to use this product. Will audio-description be sufficient? Of course not, so visually impaired people are just going to dismiss this whole Vision Pro thing straight out of the gate.

Also, another thing about which I wonder is the audio/hearing/speech scenario. People with hearing and speech issues probably aren't going to be able to use this "Vision Pro" thingy, either. In some scenes we saw people using this device without anything in their ears and there was a brief description of the audio component which suggested that the sound is built in and that people can wear and use the device without anything additional.... However, we also saw a couple scenarios where someone not only had the headgear on they also had an AirPod or something stuck in their ear as well.

What if someone cannot hear in either of these ways? A large percentage of people who are hearing-impaired are not totally deaf, nor do they communicate with Sign (ASL, American Sign Language) the way those who are members of the Deaf Community do. Most hard-of-hearing people sort of straddle the fence between the Deaf Community and the Wholly Hearing Community. Kind of an awkward position to be in.....

Actually, many Profoundly Deaf people may be OK with this new visually-oriented device since as needed they can use Closed Captioning and other modalities. I was pleased to notice that today's Apple Event offered the option of viewing the broadcast streaming with ASL.....now, that's cool!

There are still others who are also going to be left out of this exciting new world and amazing technology that Apple showed us today. What about someone who has a speech impairment which affects their ability to simply vocally direct Siri to do this or that? What about someone who has a craniofacial syndrome which affects the very shape of their head and face?

So, yes, interestingly enough, this new technology may well be inaccessible to many people for various reasons.....

That’s about how much Zeiss lenses are alone. Factor in Apple tax and the magnetic bits and custom size and coatings and you’re probably looking at $1000-1500.
The only eyewear lenses from Zeiss that i can find actually comes close to $500 has transition coating and other bells and whistles that aren’t needed for a headset. And in fact I found a high index Zeiss lens for around $60. So really they don’t seem to hold THAT MUCH of a premium over standard prescription optics.

So nobody should have it? What's your point? If anybody can figure out how to make this work for the greatest number of people, it's Apple. You think Facebook can even make such a device that works for anybody?

Accessibility is tough. And being a former social worker, I know how important accessibility is, but how does that take into consideration the value of such a device for so many people?

Imagine Steve Jobs wearing Apple Vision. 😯

I think it looks like the next iteration of Google Glass or 3D TV. Why wait seven years to point out the miserable sales? If you thought it was rare to see a Mac Pro in use anywhere these days, this expensive multimedia device likely will be just as rare.

I would have assumed Apple needed to make a pronounced move in the AI space for developers, meanwhile it seemed they only had a very small mention of machine learning for the most part.

The battery has been tested using a variety of functions so it will probably be more like 2 1/2 hours for passive movie viewing. That’s still not enough for Avatar 2 (3 1/2 hours) which they highlighted in the presentation. However the battery connects via mag safe so a slightly larger battery pack should be a trivial upgrade.
