I think Apple has missed big time on price justifications. He said just think how much you spend on a good TV, entertainment system, and speakers. Well, it’s true, but I can share that system with every member of the family. Unless you are shelling out 12-20K to buy one for each family member, I don’t see this having the same value as a Dolby Atmos home theater.

That’s about how much Zeiss lenses are alone. Factor in Apple tax and the magnetic bits and custom size and coatings and you’re probably looking at $1000-1500.
Although the Vision Pro already too expensive already this is just too much and I have myopia with corrective lenses and lifeless bifocals. I think this device will unlikely be of use to me

So nobody should have it? What's your point? If anybody can figure out how to make this work for the greatest number of people, it's Apple. You think Facebook can even make such a device that works for anybody?

Accessibility is tough. And being a former social worker, I know how important accessibility is, but how does that take into consideration the value of such a device for so many people?
No, not at all. My point is Tim Cook’s Apple is not as focused on user experience and users satisfaction as Steve Jobs was.

I have amblyopia. How am I supposed to use this device? Black out one of the eye screens?

Are you gonna tell me “that sucks“, but we have to satisfy other customers?

Steve wouldn’t say that.

When I was a child, I lost the use of one eye due to an accident. The eye is still there, looks normal, but I’m legally blind in that eye.

I just don’t see how something like this (meaning not just Apple’s headset, but that of any company) would work for someone like myself. Half of the VR headset is essentially worthless to me.

Good luck if you have an astigmatism that isn’t “off the shelf” and is outside of the most common occurrences… I suspect if you have a typical prescription then this wont be a big deal, but if you have a specialised prescription that you have to see a proper optometrist to get prescription lenses (not a mall optician) - then these Zeiss lenses are going to be very expensive…

Is Apple hinting to Oregon being the next state for naming their OS releases with Mt. Hood reflected in Trillium Lake being shows in the Vision Pro displays?

Let’s see how it goes. Remember the screen is literally a few inches in front so perhaps it won’t be necessary to correct for full long-distance vision or even presbyopia. Tim Cook most certainly is a presbyope at his age. Same with Craig Federighi.

The battery life is only 2 hours, which is not that good. In actual usage we will most likely get less than that.

The battery is connected separately, which makes it lighter on the head but it is also cumbersome and awkward.

All of this will need to be improved. So if I get this at all I will wait for 2nd or 3rd gen.
Why would you say actually use age is less? Across the past 5 years the opposite has been true with apple. Also…it plugs directly in it just can also use a battery.

I didn't think anybody trying that. Maybe there will be legislation passed soon to prohibit this? 🤔
Maps over lays in real time is AR pure goodness. I hope I can wear them and drive soon - that will be amazing. Probably tell me the speed of all the other cars. Which drivers have bad driving records. The future with this stuff will be amazing. Auto alert me of someone in intersection. Prevent accidents. Probably that stuff will not mature until after the robocars

both lens and frames are a scam. they should cost 20-30 bucks all together.
You are correct. The eye glass industry is run and controlled by about two companies. Why it has not been exposed more is a mystery. Two months ago a startup company had a booth in a major shopping mall here in Finland marketing their low priced frames and lenses. Your prescription is sent to their lens manufacturer in China and then they are inserted in the frame. My wife gave it a go and she received her glasses in three weeks. She has progressive lenses. The total price was 110 Euros. Her last pair from a local shop cost 900 Euros.

If you have any problems they will redo your lenses at no cost to you. We visited the booth at the mall a few times during the two weeks it was in the mall to chat with the fellow. He is Finnish and used to work for a clothing manufacturer in based in China for 10 years and in Hong Kong. Not surprisingly. during his time at the mall here the mall management received complaints from two of the local optical stores based in the mall. It seems competition does not suit these bandits.

Okay this is a dumb question but why do you need special lenses if you are nearsighted? Like, I can see things close without my glasses. And the screens are right in front of my eyes. Shouldn't I be able to see them without my glasses? Again, obviously I'm wrong here, but can someone explain why?

That is my case also, and I use line less bifocals also for reading fine print and such as maps when I was employed so same question I wonder if I could use as I am I read in first review they have a vision test but guy had contacts and did not need to do that. No way I am wearing contacts my eyes are too sensitive to stick things in them LOL

I got a pretty high astigmatism and prescription. If it’s just from -x to +x that won’t cut it. Contacts would work I guess But I don’t like to wear them for an extended time.
I have a pretty gnarly prescription (If you want to compare, it's something like OD -2.25-2.25 x 030 , OS -1.50-3.75 x 165) and had inserts made for my Oculus by a company called VR Wave for about $150 CDN. With them on, everything is pretty darn crisp.

I won't be getting Apple's VR headset though, not until they realize the ducked up on the price.

I have poor distance vision 20/800 and have started to need a progressive lens as I get older. I hope I will be able to even use this. Hopefully they will publish the maximum correction specifications so I can go to my optometrist and see if the headset is even an option for me.

I do wonder how easy it will be to remove for other people, when I had the first iPad and took it to my work's aircraft simulator training, people there were constantly grabbing it to try out as they had never seen one before, just saw a newspaper article or story on the news about them.
There are companies that make inserts for other VR headsets, for all prescriptions... Unless you're wearing coke bottle lenses, you should be good.

If your current lenses are a "normal'ish" thicknesses, then you're good.

My Oculus Quest 2 has inserts and you just drop them in and they line up with magnets, easy as pie. And you can swap them easily, like I do with my son's prescription or a set of no prescription lenses (for protection).
