When you realize you need to get a license and a background check to operate a drone and that you will have to comply with many rules and regulations. And that it will not fly near a main highway, or that your neighbors can sue you for looking towards their homes, you may change your mind. Unless you plan to go out of the city to operate it, it may not be fun.
And eventually the fun runs out.
I had a drone for awhile and bought it with so much excitement thinking i was gonna do cool stuff with it. The first time i took it to a nearby park, a worker there said i couldn’t fly it there. I was like wtf….i’m not going anything crazy with it. Just going up and getting some aerial shots. Nope. Can’t do that here! Events i went to that summer had signs that said “no drones”. Kinda surprised me. I guess its been a problem in some places with some people just being wreckless with their drones and ruining it for everybody

it got to the point where the coolness of having it wore off after a couple weeks and i sold it. Ya know what you ARE allowed to have at a park? An AVP. Also, trail mix

Guys, does it really worth it? I am thinking between Apples Vision or a drone
For what it’s worth, I just returned from a trip where I took 90 panoramic photos and a ton of spatial and 4K video all of which look amazing on Vision Pro. I’m as excited as a squirrel on Mountain Dew. If something happened to my Vision Pro today I’d be driving to Apple to buy a new one.

I almost bought one, but then some friends started sharing similar experiences. So what good is it to have one if you can't fly it? At first there were no restrictions, but then people started to abuse the use of drones and planted fear on others; now these are the results.

I’m not a person who normally returns things, but last night I went to disassemble and throw away the box, and I hesitated. Then I sat up in bed thinking about why I wanted to keep the return option open, and a lot of things crossed my mind.

My conclusion: I hate Hate HATE the eye tracking interface. I could forgive the washed out, hot-sidewalk pass through, and I could get used to the mild discomfort, but I probably spent 2/3rds of my time yesterday with Vision Pro trying to hit video navigation buttons, close window buttons, and trying to navigate to the eye tracking reset by guessing how far to the top/bottom or side of a menu option I needed to look (it was off because I adjusted the VP on my head slightly, like when I scratched my nose).

I desperately wanted a mouse option, but there is none. I even tried handoff with my Mac’s mouse (connecting to that wasn’t perfect either), but it didn’t seem to work.

I have other gripes too, and I think it’s normal for the problems to outweigh the “wow” factor after a while - I was expecting that. But I dread putting it back on my head and having to use that eye tracking interface again… so I’m LEANING towards returning it.
Well? Did you return it? And if not, do you regret not returning it five months later?

50/50. I keep going back and forth. The light glare bothers me and that’s the sole reason. I bought it knowing it would mostly be for movies.

Every single time I use it, I love it. The interface, the eye tracking, the experience. It’s a complete joy. The hardest part is I don’t know if I can actually sit through a 2+ hour movie in a single sitting and get past the glare.

I’ll use the full 14 days to decide.
I mean, no offense when I say this :

I really just don’t understand people like you. If you’re really 50-50, you return the damn thing and buy it again in a month or two when you are leaning more towards 60-40 or 70-30.

If you were genuinely 50-50, why would you cram yourself to make a decision in 14 days? Enjoy it for 14 days, return it, and then buy it if you really believe that your life was better with it in a month or so.

I returned it yesterday and I do not miss it!
I returned mine on day 13 and that was six months ago. I have had absolutely no regrets.
It was absolutely cool to play with. But by the last day, we didn’t even wanna bother to wait the full 14 days to return it. Me, my wife, and my two boys had enough.

I don't regret keeping mine. it's a very useful device. I'm currently running VisionOS 2.0 Beta 7 and every new update it makes it better and better.
There is Beta 7 and no one writes about it - besides you. It took quite some time this time. Checking it out...

I am past the return window now, but I never thought about returning it. It is too special, fascinating and perfect for a device like that.

Likely due to it being the summer months. I find the internet slooows down during July/August. Everyone is on holiday/vacation.

I’m using beta 7 too, it’s very solid, super minor tweaks now so release is imminent. Then hopefully onto 2.1 with improved Mac external display support.

Yeah, I've been very busy too, but when I have a chance I check MR for news and posts, in case something interesting appears. Imagine, I haven't read the Release Notes yet.

I did not remark a lot of changes in Beta 7. The blurryness in passtrough is still high at low light. What I remarked in Bora Bora: The moving leaves of the palm tree (left side the ones close to the ground) got more pixelated than before - but I could have overlooked until now.

But - I am talking about peanuts here. Beta 7 is running like a charm. I guess, Apple even suppressed the "location" icon, that appeared all the time for nothing in all applications.

Took advantage of the summer doldrums to buy one on eBay, $2100 seemed fair to me and the original owner ate the first chunk of depreciation. Picked it up in person. No signs of use, the included light seals/straps match Apple's 21W/M fitting and seem to work great.

I figure if I get bored I can sell it and keep most of my investment.

There has to be an update at this Apple event…. Price reduction or something. There’s been little buzz about it since release.

Personally I don’t think the pass through cameras are good enough. Although supposedly they are the best of any device

Hey everyone! Sorry I went MIA, it has been rather busy at work and in personal life. I put my AVP on last night for the first time in a few weeks. I need to grab the latest beta and install some app updates -- for some reason, my internet connection was acting up and it said 3 hours to download the latest update. I used device for almost 2 hours and it was STILL downloading. Usually, it speeds by.

Might try to play with it some more tonight.

Anyone know if they added the mega-screen for when using with Mac yet?

From the news regarding the RC of VisionOS2 here at MR:

Later in the year, Mac Virtual Display will support higher resolution and larger sized virtual displays, which Apple says will be equivalent to two 4K monitors side by side.
….so patience is required.

Ah bummer! Was hoping that would've been added to the RC that dropped yesterday. Oh well, I still enjoy the other features sprinkled in and feel like it's becoming a more well-rounded device with each new day.

I still primarily use it for movies and web surfing, although I have attended a few work meetings with it -- it's still in the early stages of "oh, why do you look like that?", but maybe someday it will become more normal.
